Newcomer / Intro Can I run it?

Hi guys, I would like to buy elite: dangerous but I would like to know if I can run it on my PC.
Those are my specs:
-Intel Core i5-3230M 2.6 Ghz with turbo boost up to 3.2 Ghz
-Nvidia GeForce 710M 2GB VRAM
-6 GB RAM

In space, you'll be completely fine. Planetary stuff with Horizons requires a bit more resources, but you still should be able to play on low details.
If you are also going to buy Horizons, check your system, beforehand, too - It's 64-bit only. Base game runs on both 32 and 64 bits.

I have 64-bit system, do you suggest me to buy horizon or not? Just a final question, to start with ED wich controller do you suggest to me? Is it fine to start with a standard joystick like the microsoft's one for xbox and pc or should I directly take a hotas joystick?

Hi,

I would stick to the Microsoft joy stick if you have one already just to see if your pc can handle the game and if you like it.

You can get Horizons later if you want to.

If you decide that you do like the game then it is worth getting a HOTAS.

I'd take it slow. Elite is a money pit. :D
From your specs, I think you have a laptop, right? I think you should start with KB+mouse (perfectly playable, one of the best PvP players I know play on KB+mouse) or if you have an XBox controller, you can use that.

As for whether to buy Horizons, I'm not sure. It won't be completely comfortable playing unless you crank the resolution down, I think. I have one laptop I use for playing when I travel. It's a similar i5 and GT920M, which is tad better, but on planets and with low details, FPS still fall under 20, sometimes, while in space it's a perfect 60FPS.

I think I'd wait and play the base game. If you fall for Elite, like we did, it will eventually convince you to buy Horizons, HOTAS, new computer, VR set,... :D

Welcome to the world (galaxy) of Elite Dangerous, I'm sure you will enjoy it. Use the tutorials and many brilliant how-to's on You Tube. Once you've been bitten by the bug the equipment upgrades WILL follow...money pit ....yes...but in a good way... Enjoy!
P.S I use an old Microsoft force feedback 2 joystick coupled with a new CH Pro throttle and mouse and keyboard.......it works outstandingly well and even tops several mate's HOTAS megabucks arrangements......just a thought.

very good entry level HOTAS is the Thrustmaster T-Flight.
I may have upgraded to an X52 Pro but learnt the game on the Thrustmaster. Never let me down and my 10 Year old Son is embarking on his Elite career with it.

For circa £30 you just can't go wrong!

Not sure whether a site like this would be frowned upon in this community, but I have used a site called CanIRunIt in the past, it usually gets things pretty spot on. Or as close as. Give that a whirl.
