Modular Terminals - do they exist?

That's the question.

Does anyone know where to find these?
I've been sent to Gaula Wu, Sirius, Maia, Sothis and quite a few others in between. Nothing.

Recent successes have led to the idea that commodities and materials are less bound to systems states than rather to system location - so all I need is a place to start looking for them.

I know they don't drop in USSs. However, I've desparately started checking even those despite having no storage room for regular mats left (interesting: USS don't seem to spawn mats then anymore).
I've stopped in every station and -STAND BY- checked the black board. Nothing. I only get commodities offered that I already have in my trunk. One of these must be a pirate magnet, by the way.

Help. Please.

I got some (eventually) by being offered them as a mission reward. I think they only show up at high tech stations.

Got my 25 Mod Terminals grinding Sirius rep in Sothis/Ceos. Fairly quickly too... Ceos is back online apparently. Toodle out there and rank up? Plus, later you'll have the needed rank to abuse the hell out of that particular lisence to print money

Go to high tech station that is is in system were bgs state is boom. This seem to be the best place for missions that offer modular terminals as reward for missions to spawn. Open mission to see full blist of the rewards for it and if it say that it give modular terminals as reward take it. Usually one mission give 4 modular terminals as reward.

Modular terminals are a commodity and as far as I know are only available as a mission reward. I've seen a few on offer at various stations.

I've had some luck today getting missions for them today at Shinrarta. After a whole day yesterday of dismal lack of such missions.

I think its all down to the RNG, as well as finding a system where lots of missions are on offer. If you find a system with plenty of missions you can take, and the RNG smiles upon you, its easy. If not... then be prepared for hell.

Smeaton port in Njikan had some as mission reward the other day. I didn't need them and just sold them at the market.
I think a few of the factions are in a boom state right now.

Been there... If you have to grind, just grind efficiently.

I was pretty furious when I could not find them so I went to the Aditi system and grinded my imperial rank between two stations there.

In less than an hour I had enough to unlock Qwent.

The solution is not to be looking for them and have something else in mind like grinding a rank. Two birds, one stone.

They'll turn up eventually and usually more quicker than you'd expect.

Got mine today doing the Gold CG, I shifted 5000 t of gold and checked every time then they turned up on a simple delivery mission, went to upgrade shields and FSD on Anaconda
then dropped 2 outside a station for DBX to pick up, rinse and repeat.

so best to do have a list of what you need and do missions or CG's checking the board each time.

There unfortunately is no significant trend to getting these faster. But having access to high reputation missions means your odds of getting better rewards more often increases. The only reason why people have more luck in Ceos/Sothis is because they already have high rep from doing missions for all of the factions. So you can get essentially the same luck by doing missions in any place where you already have high rep.

HI tech systems in boom state will provide them as mission rewards when you are cordial with them. Just do missions for the factions and they will appear.

Agricultural will provide them too. It's totally random. But being in good standing with the local factions will give you more/better missions with better chances of good rewards, including MTs.

Seriously. The randomness of this game is such that you are better off stacking missions blindly and grind with something else in mind.

I wrote a post exactly like this one a few weeks ago and I got the same kind of response.

We don't know the formulas.

I tried following the refinery/extraction/high tech in boom forumula for 2 days in a system I had high rep with all factions, no luck. Then I went to an agricultural system with no state qualifiers and found them on the first try. MTs are totally random. Or if there is a higher chance in some systems/states, it's not significantly higher.

Other items are not random though, and you can find them by looking in the right system. Pharmaceutical Isolators for example are very location specific.
