So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

Is anyone investigating systems between Tionisla and Cemiess ?

I am trying to visit as many systems as possible between the 2 however there are a lot of systems and we dont know what we are looking for or the route Salome took, so in uninhabited systems I am looking for persistant POI's and in inhabited systems going to a station and looking for Herald articles

" The life form itself arose in a globular cluster , the so called Samarandara Pearls , first described by Ahmed Samarandara "

" The following underspaced message from the younger Samarandara was picked up at Obethurey Station:
... a sun not dissimilar to Algol , but with the fires of hell burning from it`s surface. ...43 worlds , clustered in a narrow plane, and most of them giants , their gaseous atmospheres curling wraith like into the void ... colours , so beautiful , the richness of reds and purples, and the scores of rocky moons...ruins I think...yes , ruins , the hulls of ships and stations , the closer I go the more I see , thousands , millions of wrecks... the singing is louder now , a strangley haunting whistling through the transceiver sets : the rubidax crystals have changed colour and when I cool them they emit this strange song, all scales and strange combinations of notes...I feel oddly drawn towards the world, an image in my mind tells me my great grandfather is here...I can sense his ship , lying in the void, and his voice seems to be calling to me through the song voices of the worlds... I must go closer and seek him , but the wrecked ships are clustered so closely about each world that I am in danger of collision. End report."

I might do the same

Alien World !!! I read this when I was about 15. I bought it from a shop selling warhammer 40,000 stuff

You had the same idea I had, about half way across doing economical jumps

Has anyone been in a system where the next nearest star that could be plotted to using the GalMap was not in the locations section of the Nav Panel? Almost all systems I've been in, the close systems show up in the NavPanel if they can be automatically selected to jump to in the GalMap. If they need manual selection to jump to, I've seen those not show up. But I'm in a system where the next star system is close and shows up after using the plot route, but isn't present unless I plot the route. Seems odd that a system that can be auto-plotted is not showing up until auto-plotted.

The ship's sensors only detect roughly a 20LY range around your current location.

I'm pretty sure at least some of what I'm seeing is a bug related to the advanced discovery scanner with regards to my most recent screenshots with the double unexplored items.

I'm retracting this one. I don't think it is the related to the discovery scanner anymore. I thought the "unexplored" was popping up and scrolling down the NavPanel Locations list where planets would show up after an advanced discovery scan was conducted however I just experienced the "unexplored" labels popping up in the locations panel randomly a few times and it was in a system where there were no further planets/stars in the Locations tab. So what I thought was exposing where planets/stars would pop up after a scan is not the case as there are no other planets/stars in this system after scan filling the Locations list.

Couple quick questions.
1) Can an atmosphere's composition determine the color of the aura around the planet when you are moving behind it?
I'm in a system with a K class star and when moving behind an Ammonia world the aura is blue. The only time I've paid attention to this is when I'm photo'ing. So this is likely a silly question.

2) How normal is it for the "Atmosphere Type" to be different from the composition of it?
Same planet/system;
Atmosphere Type: Ammonia and Oxygen
Atmosphere: 99.0% Carbon Dioxide, 1.0% Sulphur Dioxide

Good question. I am curious how these things are established too.

For example, planet I just scanned is Methane-Rich atmosphere type BUT it is 96.1% Nitrogen, 1% Argon and a measly 2.9% Methane.

1. yes
2. weird

1. When looking for lights I blast past the planet and then spin around for a dark circle and an eclipsey looking aura. Generally oxygen's are red and amonia's blue and have seen greens; also modified by the star's color, actinic stars make everything pretty.

2. That does crop up I've seen earth likes that have no oxygen.

Has anyone else noticed this one?

Materials planets in systems with severe nav hazards seem to have about double the percentage amounts of very rare and rares but about 1/2 the variety of rares. I've run into that only twice.

I've been doing a lot of 'digging' into the various mythologies trying to see how certain things might tie in or together.
So some of this may be obvious (already known/not original) and not be entirely relevant but perhaps could give some insight.
Especially with those of us who might be newer to the Rift.

We already know that there is presumably a large tie-in to mythology from various sources (Greek/Mesopotamian/Sumerian/[Possible] Roman).
Getting deep into mythology leads to many different avenues and potentially 'misleading' or 'disruptive' findings in the search for, whatever it is.

Salome[Ishtar/Inanna] Seven Veils[Ishtar/Inanna]
Presumably Salome named her ship the Seven Veils because she planned to travel to a place known for being fearful [like the legend of Ishtar/Inanna traveling into the underworld]. Possible other reason might be she plans to use the trip as an 'enlightenment'.

Formidine Rift Location
Location has been confirmed as being 'broadly' correct.
It is located behind the Heart, Soul, and NGC281 nebulae.
While these aren't necessarily near the nebula, as viewed from Earth, they are located within or range of the following constellations:
Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Perseus, Cepheus, Cetus [All of which tie in together]
While it might not necessarily mean anything, it is a bit peculiar that these figures point towards the Rift. Specifically Cassiopeia as she nearly sent her daughter, Andromeda, to her death.

That still leaves the question of is what we're looking for beyond the space between the two arms or is it the edge of the outer arm?
Based on the RaxxLa waypoints made public, and based on strategy/defenses, I would say the threat that is in or beyond the Rift is most likely at the midway area [NGC457 Sector ZV-O B22-0 & SCHEAU PHOE AF-G C27-10]. Granted it's space and nothing is necessarily forced into a funnel point.

If the Rift might somehow represent an underworld from ancient times, then the fear is of the dead. Unless there's an army of space zombies and Call of Duty is a future teller, I doubt it's that. The closest thing to this in the future would be robots/AI. Not necessarily 'mindless', but in a sense.

I also went back through all of the GalNet news regarding Kahina/Salome, looking for clues (more for myself).
The only thing relevant that I could find (at least from a mythological point) was her touring of Sol. More specifically the gas giants. Granted all of our [other] planets are based on figures of myth, these four might be the most important.
Jupiter being the "Ruler of the Gods"
Saturn being the "God of Agriculture" or in some cases the "God of Time"
Neptune being the "God of the Sea"
Uranus being the "God of the Sky"
Again could mean nothing but why mention she's touring those planets specifically and not the system itself?

Also is it 100% confirmed that the Heart Nebula disappearing is in error? Is it possible that it isn't? Maybe it's a method of guiding? Granted it's a crappy one if so but it is something that can be 'overlooked' very easily. "Less nebulous"?? It is rather strange that it is the only one [I've encountered] that disappears, when one's much farther away can still be seen.

Also I don't know if the "core of the problem" was ever figured but could it be a nod to, Core[Persephone], wife of the ruler of the underworld?
Not that the makes things any clearer.

Bringing up the old lady and the specifics [again]. One of the first things she says is that "...no one has gone past it and lived to tell the tale." So it is possible that whatever lurks in the Rift act as Cerberus. The living could enter, but none can leave.
She also mentions that "...you can see the whole galaxy just hanging there." What if, she isn't referring to our galaxy? I might have a different idea of what "hanging there" means than her, but if it's just to the edge of the space between the two arms, it doesn't seem far enough out. Granted you can technically see the other galaxies from mostly anywhere. They'd definitely be much easier to see with little other stars around.

Just thinking 'out loud' and speculating.

**Unrelated**
Has "Surface Pressure" always been a 'stat'?
I don't recall noticing it before. If it is new than perhaps that's one of the factors for the atmospheric landings which could be in the season of content.
It's obviously not a factor for the planets we can land on since, no atmospheres on them. It's also not a 'stat' for the gas giants.

"The Alien World" was written by Professor Steven Eisler - a pen name used by Robert Holdstock who, of course, went on to write "The Dark Wheel" and the game manual for the original Elite. There is a LOT of cross over between "The Alien World" and the lore of the Elite universe. Raxxla, The Dark Wheel and much, much more make their first appearances in "The Alien World".

I did a video about it:

Hi, new to this thread, but spent yesterday searching this line. My main point of interest was that my course went straight past the permit locked system HR 4413. Seemingly nobody's found where to get the permit yet.

Also found quite a few imperial Navy convoys, though this is probably random noise?
