Modular Terminals - do they exist?

The 'High Tech'-system-only is a myth. They are defenitely a reward in other economies as well; I found them as a mission reward in industrial systems, for example.

Factions in 'Boom' state seem to be best (or even obligatory), though. Missions of the 'Boom delivery' type (data as well as commodity deliveries) often times give MTs as reward.

As others said already, a high reputation is desirable, as the faction will grant more missions.

Just do missions and look for them at various stations. the more factions the better. What gets me is they are described as ubiquitous....definition of which is "adjective..present, appearing, or found everywhere".....really?

+1 for high tech systems, have always just jumped around a few and found some jobs offering them.

Thankfully never had any nightmares like some!

There unfortunately is no significant trend to getting these faster. But having access to high reputation missions means your odds of getting better rewards more often increases. The only reason why people have more luck in Ceos/Sothis is because they already have high rep from doing missions for all of the factions. So you can get essentially the same luck by doing missions in any place where you already have high rep.

I think this is pretty much spot on - all mine came from the likes of Cemiess and Wu Guinagi where I am allied across the board. I think the rep gives you the better odds of finding a mission with MTs (or whatever) as rewards.
Not personally found any correlation with economy or system state tbh....

You can buy them from Hutton Orbital.

Have you actually been there and purchased Modular terminals or seen them for sale on a third party site?? Because as far as I know, they, along with a few other commodities are ONLY available via mission rewards and NOT like e.g. Magnetic Emitter Coils which can indeed be purchased from certain markets.

Or, as I once made this mistake...were you already carrying some? If so, they will appear in the commodities lists, but only for you to sell them, not to purchase.

They are not only found at high tech stations. When fulfilling the requirement for Marco Qwent, I got the 25 MTs mostly from industrial stations, but also found some at agricultural stations. It is very random and helps if there are a large number of fractions in the system that are offering a good number of missions (boom state seems to help with this). Relogging between open, private and solo in such systems helps to improve the odds of finding them.Try to avoid systems in lock down or if more than one fraction is in retreat, as these seem to lower the number of missions available.

Well, i got my terminals and i can only say, from what i noticed, its totally random.

HOWEVER! Don't worry too much about reputation or a particular economic type. Look for factions that offer lots of missions with commodities and not too focused on something like mining or planetary missions. A faction that likes simple missions.

Find one of those, and you should be set. I found a few and it really increased the chances of getting those missions. One of them was at Jameson's Memorial by the way.

Crap I should've asked the forum if anyone needs MT. I threw out almost 30 of em because I got em from Shu Babassi while doing Empire rank grind and coincidentally the system was in Boom state, hence that many MT

It seems to me that when you don't really want them they appear with almost irritating regularity, but as soon as you start looking for them they become scarce.

This waiting for the right missions to spawn is one of the most irritating things of the Engineers.

I have logged in once yesterday and two times today.
I check a few stations and then I logout again within 30 minutes or so, because I am so irritated about the fact that I can't go on with what I want to do.
I would be willing to work through a score of missions for an entire day if I was sure that at the end I would get the mats I am looking for, in this case modular terminals, but as it is now I might play for a week and find nothing at all.
It is such a bad game mechanic in my mind.

Imagine if this was how you had to buy stuff in the real world.
We would all go mad within a week and jump off a cliff into the see.
That is what this mechanism makes me want to do.
So that is why I can't currently bring myself to play ED. It is too frustrating.

It was just a joke - Hutton Orbital would take about three hours in super cruise to get too. You can't buy them there, or anywhere else.

I wouldn't dream of ever going to Hutton Orbital, but if I could buy modular terminals there I would do it.
I would hate it, but I would do it, because after 3 hours of super cruising I would at least know I would get the damn things.

I want to get on with what I am doing and I am sabotaged by a horrible game mechanic that frustrates all my efforts.
I hope FD will eventually do something about this.

I see plenty now in systems that I have high rep in. The biggest pain in the     are Exquisite Crystals. Wth... how damn rare are these things? Been trying for over a week to get ONE

Doing the Modular Grind right now, and my goodness it is not a fun experience.
No fun at God damn all.
And I know it will be a LONG and nightmare like experience to get them all, which makes it all even more disheartening.
Like with some of the other crappy stuff the engineers demand.

Such things is making it a drag even to start up the game.
A game I actually like very much and wish to play more.
