I would love a autopilot but not any other warning, if you need to do stuff outside ED then you can take the risk.
However the autopilot would help removing some of the boring repetitive tasks.

What we need is some in game activities like Gwent or log writings or whatever you could do in the game.

Maybe it's just me, but I get sidetracked while playing Elite Dangerous. Reading forums, mails, reporting issues and the like.

So... are you 'playing' or 'browsing'....?

If you're not in the hangar then you need to pay attention friend

Fly (or dock) safe!

I would like the stupid delay with pressing Escape to get to the menu removed. I don't mean the 15 second timer, that could be increased without bothering me. The delay I hate is when you press escape and a timer shows up saying the save option isn't available yet.

I know it might seem strange, but some people have real lives.
I don't want a game telling me I can't save or quit it just now.

What would be cool is a automated message if your away from game for more than 5 mins and someone messages you.
Many times I returned after making food to see someone messaged me

I've never seen this, could it be a delay at your end? I agree in principle though, if you want to quit you should be able to issue the instruction & assuming it hasn't crashed have it afk follow through when it can just like if you switch your PC off.

Voted 'other'.

We have such protection. It's known as the hangar.

;)

Edit: I really don't get all this alt-tabbing business. When I play Elite I'm doing nothing else. Not watching Netflix or browsing the web. I'm in the game 100%. Otherwise it would seem like some kind of ADHD-driven side activity. Reminds me of those people who browse Facebook on their phones while watching a film. Can't people get enjoyment out of one activity at a time?

While I'm playing Elite, if I need another drink or need to go to the loo or some other real life calling, I either dock, drop to normal space in the middle of nowhere or even log out if it's very urgent. Maybe that's just me...

Yes! (Minority vote)

because real life events should always and immediate supersede any gaming activity.

And no, when the doorbell goes or the kids have issues, waiting for the hyperjump to finish or 15 seconds in combat is too long.

and no, I don't do pvp and I don't care about log protection.

(and no, Elite will never respect these wishes :) )

A couple times this has sent me to the rebuy screen because I was docked at the station but while alt-tabbing I must have undocked my ship and then the timer starts ticking. All of a sudden I hear "Under attack, shields down, boom" and I alt tab to see the rebuy screen.

Just because people can be idiots, maybe it's a good idea to make the game log out automatically if it detects no input (i.e. you are AFK) for, say, 5 or 10 minutes. Only in stations would be fine, but I suppose it could make sense everywhere; it's happened before someone started yelling in the house and I had to go and check and by the time I had gotten back something bad had happened because I didn't have time to log off properly.

Anyway, anybody else interested in AFK detection and auto-log off to save your life?

hahahahahahahahahahahahha

No.

This is exactly why people are advised to fly with rebuy. Just in case something does happen outside your control.

Xbox One has a 60 second (1 min) countdown if your controller disconnects, and then returns you to the main menu. Having another app up too long (like YouTube) will eventually disconnect you from FD's servers and kick you from the game back to the menu.

How this can be applied to PC is anyone's guess, but food for thought.

I'd like to see an AFK monitor for those parked, but for different reasons.

Sometimes people dock, and go AFK. It's fine, and a sensible place to leave your ship while you have a comfort break. BUT leaving it there does block the pad. So after a reasonable time of no activity the ship is despawned, freeing the pad. If visible it goes into the hangar, if in the hangar it despawns.

Some things do take ages while docked, selling exploration data for example, but these should need keypresses to keep the ship alive in the instance.

At a CG last year, I saw a CMDR hovering in the middle of the station. Messaging had no answer, I assume he was away from keyboard. I guess he was eventually sent to the rebuy screen.
Another CG I saw a NPC T7 hovering in the same position, at that time it was something NPCs did sometimes to their eventual demise. This time I thought I'd try and push the NPC out of the station with my Asp. It worked, but I was pretty close to getting destroyed by the station myself as it took ages. Wish I'd tried it with the CMDR at Kaushpoos, though I was only in a Viper, his ship was much bigger.

It would be funny to push an AFK CMDR somewhere embarrassing, maybe a tunnel.

If you get sidetracked then log out. If you sit in game and go make a cup of tea, then expect to be dead when you come back.
