I combat logged a duck last night.

I only crashed a few times since beta, I don't know what crashes your client but it seems very very rare for me and I only experienced crashes on game exit so far so my guess is that the guy was attacked and combat logged, game crashed on exit :p . crashes when in trouble are very convenient, FD should fix it by making ships stay online for a couple of minutes after logging off or not removing the ship when under attack or has just been interdicted, in those cases the ship doesn't disappear until the attack is over, best way to deal with combat loggers

You'll be surprised at how often the game "crashes", check out /r/EliteCombatLoggers/ if you don't believe me,

Fdev needs to fix this, we can't have all these CMDR's game crashing like this, Software this unstable needs to be fixed ASAP! #MakeEliteStableAgain :D

380 cases of "combat logging" .. in about 100k active users, of which more than half are "legal menu logs" and less than 50 have "more than one log"?

The reddit numpties need to stop wasting everyone's time with their non-issues. Every developer second spent on "looking into this non-issue" is a completely wasted second.

To be honest. FDs Options here are Limited tough.
Pressing Alt F4 Silences my Computers Signal to ED. So they cannot tell if I did Alt F4 or if my Internet Connection has gone.
They could attempt to either log my Keyboerd which would result in the Game likely running the risk of becoming annoying thanks to Anti Virus Programs detecting that it sends Key Commands to the Server.
Or they could try to Ping you after you left. Which would mean they can see if your Machine is still there.

But even then they dont know if you did this Intentional or if maybe your Game Crashed.
For the Server its Impossible to See wether you Combat Logged. Or if you Crashed, lost Internet Connection etc etc etc.

One method would be to just ignore the Player leaving and have the Ship remain in the Game for a certain Time.
But I can Guarantee you this.
If I am Flying my Anaconda in Open. Get Interdicted and my Game Crashes. Resulting in me being Killed while unable to do anything because my Game Crashed (this aint exactly rare lately thanks to whatever the last Update did) then you can assume this is the last time I played ED. Because if I am paying a 10 million Rebuy because FD Crashed I.ll be Frustrated and Annoyed like Hell.

As such its fairly Unlikely that FD will Deliver anything here.
Because ultimately. FD would end up Punishing Players which did nothing wrong. And which would then (rightfully) be angry at FD.
There is unfortunately no System which can Accurately Determine if someone Combat Logged or simply Crashed.

I go through patches of crashes in ED. Mainly video lock ups. Don't get it in any other game. I blame my video card...

The game can easily know if you exited the game (ungracefully) while in a combat situation. It can easily keep track and if it sees a regular pattern warn and ultimately take action. eg: Ban to SOLO for increasingly long patches.

OP, sure you don't mean a 'pigeon'..as in English?

You see, there's a reason I don't post on the French forums..because I can't frigggin speak French adequately! (Is there a French Forum? can't be bothered to check!)

Back on topic - Combat logging is far less inconvenient to the 'Loggee' than being ganked by Lord Fondlemaid & his little, friends (hilarious play on Lord Fautleroy - btw, well done on the Gore Vidal level of wit there!).

Ironically, that in-game name is the same as one of the crimes listed under his real name on the sex register!

O-Oh ban incoming :D

I'm still waiting for the explanation for the duck. "Logged a duck" sounds like a euphemism, although I suspect "duck" is simply a deliberate typo, confusing due to bad punctuation. Does something count as swear filter evasion if you can't actually be sure that it's swear filter evasion?

I expect your suspicion is right. Change one letter to get a popular contraction of Richard.

I'm not even mad you logged out on me (I didn't even report you)... I'll get you next time.

Congratulations for reporting yourself.

So far, combat logging and attacking without in game reason are equally bad in my opinion, so to respond with first to second is ok thing to do.

Would you only care to send some kind of game wise relevant message or we had some kind of relation I would stay and die for you no problem.

I've logged out on a few NPC's out of spite and annoyance.

Traversing between systems in a ship with NO CARGO RACKS... "blah, blah, all that tasty cargo" Interdicted, off I log and will continue to do this until NPC's are REQUIRED to cargo-scan before attempting interdiction AND stop demanding cargo from vessels INCAPABLE of carrying cargo.

To be honest, attacking without reason and without any comms is not necessarily out of place. I just find the really bad design comes from the fact that you can do that repeatedly in high security system without meaningful consequences, and that you could even restock your ammo to keep attacking unwanted players in the very same system you are wanted.

You can't cargo scan another ship in super cruise.

I do agree with you. Still, some ppl play this game "i hunt random players all day" and this is their game, respect. I play "if pirate comms me I try to escape / fight back in technically legitimate way". I am not sure why we punishing "technical exploit" only but not "human mental state" ;).

Oh don't worry, we know the evil griefers of Open are only an excuse. Considering how a lot of forum users complain about any aspect of either the game or the community which could be considered adversarial, we know there's probably a lot more combat logging happening in solo to avoid danger than there is even in Open.

I'm waiting for someone to get upset over the KoS list and call me a psychopath or something like that.

Then when I ask why isn't people screaming at the people who put me on KoS lists for being a pirate, then they go quiet or say that I deserve it because god forbid I play the game legitimately and reasonably.

I am upset about the KOS list. Now you put people who's crappy computer crashes on.

And me? I'm too stubborn to ever quit, I reset my router daily and keep my computador in top shape. How am I supposed to make it to that fabled "KOS List"?
