Will crew members insta-travel too?

Either I have missed this during Gamescom, or it was not mentioned:

From the description of the crew members mechanic I gathered that you can hire up to three crew members, which can be set to active or inactive. Active crew members follow you on your ship and can be assigned to a fighter type, while inactive crew members remain in the crew lounge.

My question: is the crew lounge a virtual space located on a station, or a virtual space located on your ship? Can you bring any crew member to active status on any station simply by accessing the crew lounge, or must you travel to that particular crew lounge where you originally hired the pilot, to transfer him to your ship thus making him active?

I would expect them to be instantly available when you need them. The crew-lounge stuff is probably just the Handwavium to justify the (expected) fact that you can still fly your single seater ships while having hired pilots.

No you have to fly and pick them up.

Actually Sandy stated quite clearly in the live streams that they were on holiday but followed you about :D Damn hippies!

Ahh I remeber the old days of FFE

Another notable feature is the large number of crew required to fly the ship, 12 in all. If you've recently upgraded from a smaller ship, you may find yourself stuck in dock for a while, waiting for crew to advertise their presence for you to hire. Once you've got them, the weekly wage bill rises accordingly.

They follow around with you. They take a percentage from all profit you make until they're surplus to requirements.

Even the Sidewinder is more than large enough for a group of people to live in.

3d printed stalkers.

And they're all darn gorgeous to.

Good times!

Those were the days. 2.7 million to buy a Panther Clipper... These days that wouldn't even get you an iron       Cobra Mk III... I've spent that on weapons for my Anaconda.
I know DB said the Clipper is coming, but given the price of the Imperial Cutter and that the Panther should have 3 times the cargo space (the original spec had a 2,100 ton cargo capacity), I can't even begin to think of the price for one adjusted for ED. Maybe 2.7 billion?

This would be amusing. Sure, you can buy a panther clipper, but you can't drive it until the workers union has agreed on the wage for the crew. Get comfortable, you'll be there for a while. Unions as emergent content. Naturally. ;)

But back then you could only have one ship, now you could go on a recruitment drive and fly around in a dolphin or something picking and choosing the best people for the job, rather than the 1st possibly wanted twitchy loon who passes by.

Look if you just need some staff I can help you. I work in human resourcing. No job to big or too small. We have humans for sorts of resourcing needs. ;)

Sure, okay, yes, they cost a bit, but I can assure you they are surprisingly willing and able. We even ensure they are cryogenically frozen and sealed for freshness and safety.

What's not to like?

Sure thing Kofeyh, at least those guys are willing to work off their debt, not like that jackass I hired as a gunner back in 98 who thought he could just skip the system... turned him in at the very next port :D

Ok, so assuming they follow you around all the time, do they all die when your ship is destroyed, or just the one which is active?

What if you have more than one active crew member, on different ships? I'm assuming that this will be possible. Can you dismiss them remotely, or do you have to, ahem, instantly transfer your ship first in order to dismiss them? If your current ship is destroyed, but one crew member is active on a different ship in port, does he die too?

I'm just asking questions to paint myself a picture on this will work. And for the record, I do believe that access to crew members should be available at all times, but I would like individual crew lounges to exist on each ship rather than having one unique crew lounge for the entire account.

They apparently die if your ship gets destroyed (or at least, evacuate in similar escape pods and consider their employment terminated).

Until then, they allegedly remote-control any fighters you might deploy, which have, for some reason, been designed with cockpits and their associated life support systems...

A good way would be a regular NPC Crew and the option for invited CMDRs to switch into NPC crewmen.
That would allow instant jumps in and out without breaking anything. CMDRs joining as themselves can choose to eject if they want to leave when not at a port, but have to be picked up again, if they want to join as a CMDR again.

My guess on this is that your crew lounge will be found on an shipyard and any NPCs you hire will be with you, in your magic pocket. You can have the active NPC on your ship and when the ship gets destroyed that NPC is dead, FD has said that. Then you go back to the crew lounge at any shipyard and like magic your other hired NPCs will be there!

Wouldn't want to make anyone actually have to travel back to the crew lounge where they are supposed to be waiting.

I guess in this case the explanation could be that they knew where you'd be when your ship got destroyed so they hightailed it to meet you.

More magic though for the impatient. The more magic FD adds to the game the more I keep thinking this isn't the game I wanted.
