I combat logged a duck last night.

Piracy simply cannot be done in 15 seconds, and bounty hunting cannot be done either unless the logger's in a Sidewinder or some vulnerable ship.

"Bounty hunting" cannot be done at all, since the instancing is too easiely cheeseable with "legitimate in-game means".
Seen that stuff live during the "Hunt" CGs.

At the moment, I actually only wish they'd add a working block/ignore, that simply stops people on that list from ever instancing with you. Keeps those numpties that don't want to play the game at all where they belong.

The thing is that combat loggers mostly believe what they're doing is legitimate or that they think FD won't do anything about it (probably right at this point, or that we just don't know because they are big on no name and shame). So to prevent them from ruining other players' experience, they need to be removed as soon as possible upon encounter.

Just to clarify... A troll repeatedly destroying individuals without a single in game reason, purely because they get a kick out of causing others player grief, and knowing the game will ignore their actions... Who's ruining other players experience?

Hmmm.. can I just go silent running and you pretend I logged out?

Silent running will make you a fuzzy target on radar, doesn't count.

Or maybe if I just went AFK. Would that work?

If it was me I'll just extract cargo and leave, if you have a bounty, a hunter will probably boil you up. It doesn't count.
In the last 22 years of car driving, I had 3 speeding tickets. None of them even 2 digit. I refuse to change my lawful-chaotic behaviour just for the sake of a computer game.

None of what you described seem to land you on the list.

Bounty hunting is simply a Cmdr hunting down a wanted target.

People that do that can be avoided without touching combat log or menu log.

Also, while crime and punishment isn't being harsh enough in beating random PKers down, it's completely legitimate to attack random people for no apparent reason. It's only griefing when it's repetitive targeting and chasing down of a specific individual for the purpose of causing grief.

To be honest I don't care if people menu log on a random attack without any communication or context in the current crime and punishment setting.

And another name on the KoS list, horayyyy.

I'm waiting for someone to get upset over the KoS list and call me a psychopath or something like that.

Then when I ask why isn't people screaming at the people who put me on KoS lists for being a pirate, then they go quiet or say that I deserve it because god forbid I play the game legitimately and reasonably.

*Chuckles in the background*

Then why daily do we hear of individuals being destroyed without a single in game reason? And these days all the quicker thanks to engineered weapons of course.

Remember... Not everyone has your level of knowledge of the game. Some people have just started playing today for example.

You're using the specific term "griefing"... I'm not...

Are you OK with CMDRs simply picking on anyone and everyone, ideally the weaker the better, ideally operating in a Wing, to of course get no in game reward, and in truth only do it because they know killing a CMDR will cause some grief to them... Where as an NPC less so...

Personally I see the game allowing this sort of behaviour as counter productive. It's down to lazy mechanics rather than design.

The game would be all the better if it instead penalised such behaviour and instead orchestrated more consensual PvP mechanics for combat.

Laughable strawman.

I see combat log as disappearing after I see the target ship or interdiction suddenly disappears.

Yea, and quitting the game won't help people learn, if anything it does the opposite. And no one forced these people into Open, there is no bonus in Open anywhere.

That's a philosophical discussion, AIs are programmed to attack randomly and sometimes with fault. Human intention is open to interpretation. Like I said, crime and punishment need to beat random Pkers over the head.

As long as it doesn't make piracy impossible or ridiculous, sure.

Thats why I linked my Suggestion Earlier.
Aside from making it harder to Interdict Ships that are too different in Class.
It also makes sure that Killing another Player Results in an Bounty worth that Commanders Losses. And not a measly 5000 Credits lol

And with People like you around People Seriously wonder why hardly anyone wants to Play Open *gg*

Just like piracy, that works awesomely with NPCs but not with other commanders, despite them being on the top bounties boards and somewhere in the same solar system.

And it doesn't work well because FD allows mode switch so easily and doesn't monitor such as menu log and combat log.

Instancing flaws harm all parties equally.

And ignoring personal commentaries that have no relevance to the discussion.

Awesome. Another Combat Logging thread, where those offended compare notes on how they define a Combat Log, and sit around commiserating on how much combat logging hurts their feelings, I mean immersion. I hope the Dev's hear your Kumbayas this time..... Only so they can have a laugh as well.

The thing is when someone does it over and over again it is pretty obvious and needs to be dealt with. Especially when they said it was an exploit a year and a half ago or so and they would be dealing with it. But then it was not the 1st lie frontier told us

Yeah I'm not saying its not a problem, its more that there are no easy answers if you can't trust either side of the connection then one could be framed or claim innocence without any source of truth. You could say 'well surely a pattern of behavior build up over time' but that can be abused too by people taking a break from PvP or groups of players picking on one. As was said earlier the P2P architecture is a real problem in this scenario.

Hopefully people don't think that avidly combat logging/abusive menu logging in Open is their way of strong-arming FD into adding a PvE mode, since that course of action is no different than Mobius invasion.

Absolutely. I think everyone playing in Open should accept that they can become the content of others. Everything is allowed in Open apart from exploiting game mechanics. Also, everyone playing in Open needs to accept that people in Solo are allowed to manipulate the BGS, unless they are exploiting game mechanics. It's quite simple, the only thing missing is the official PvE mode.

At least it's not one of those threads where people stick their head around the door, throw a veiled insult, before ducking out not having contributed at all! Doh!
