Rift settings CV1 - terrain

Hi folks,

how do you set you terrain details while playing with the Oculus CV1? I encounter very low planet surface details while approaching a planet aka moon.

Should I set it to max or will that bring down my system too much (i4700, GTX 1080, fat!)?

Is my internet connection (6 MBit) the bottleneck here?

Any / the best Rift CV1 sepcs out there???

Why not try? Just go to graphics settings and change settings higher. If frame rate go lower than is recommended for oculus cv1 or you get motion sickness change them back.

It does. If it's very slow, it takes a lot of time to load the textures. This midght end up in rough textures while approaching a moon.

textures aren't downloaded from internet or frontier servers. Sounds like settings are just low and limiting the range were game move from low textures to high res textures.

Try changing terrain quality settings to higher (in graphics options under quality drop down menu). At least last 4 have something to do with terrain. You could also change the texture quality.

Good thing. Already increased some gfx settings.

2nd thing is: WHAT? Gfx are not downloaded from FDev servers? So, it's not like 1 CMDRs approaches a moon and the surface gets rendered for the 1st time, transfered to FDev servers to work as a permanent sample texture for that moon? wow! so, that matches with more than 100 site seeing tours are permanent news I just read.

Is every moon really generated from scratch every time I approach it? I thought that it's permanent once it got "discovered". Crazy sheit. : ) And if there's a CMDR on the surface already, I get his instance of the moon. OK!

The servers provide seed to player. Same seed same planets etc. to every one. There isn't that many different textures for planets. Actually base texture for every planet is same and same texture one texture is copied over hole planet and you can see it if you look for it (ie small rock placements etc.) the major difference between planets is the color and different high map which are easy for the procedural generation. Server give data and your computer generate the planet high map and slap texture to it that server tell it to use. Entering same system will make the server always sent same seed so the system is always same to every one. If you have heard about how procedural generation work in No man's sky it works in similar way in elite. Only difference is that in elite the game sync so the planets etc. are in same place for everyone.

couple videos released by frontier about how elite universe was created.

Procedural generation:

Live stream were devs tell how they created planets/moons in elite and other stuff about planets before the release of horizon.
