Hardware & Technical Saitek x55 rhino

Got the X55 Rhino today :), 2 days since placing order, feels totally different than the TM T-Flight Hotas X.

There is a Slow Roll to the right in ‘space ’(rest) . Joystick seems centered in the Windows settings.

Already tried the different springs, that’s seems not the problem

Do/can I correct this with Calibration Axes in the X55 software?

Saitek recommends setting deadzones in software to 50. Although, I have set 75 for X-axis (50 for other axes). Also I have performed calibration built-in Saitek software. As well as I have minimal possible deadzone set in the in-game controls.

Obviously I missed that info

I'm now trying to memorize what all the buttons are for :p

As mentioned, I didn't realise until today that the two dials on the right of the throttle handle have clickers under them which are assigned to hardpoints retracting on the upper and landing gear on the lower. like second nature once you realise they are there.

I was thinking of printing out a sheet with the buttons on it until I memorize them at least.
Saw a youtube video where someone was showing off his setup for Elite and he had little stickers on the joystick for what each button does in game.
Good idea until at least you memorize them, than it will be second nature I guess.

I am still retracting landing gear sometimes when I want to hyper jump :)

I didn't know that either!

Nope, nuh-oh, did not fix it with turning legacy of from bios.

I have done some testing but it seems the problem persists.
It is some better tho, not so many ghost activations anymore, only few.

I switched it back on and it got worse by a lot.

So for now Im keeping it turned off.

It did seem to vary though, with legacy on, sometimes when I loaded the game and played it was better and other times it got worse.

Recently I have not been able to play too much becouse troubles at logging into multiplayer, scenarios do work tho.

Im getting a bit tired of starting over all the time becouse of this, blasting
with afterburners on suddenly into the station wall and dieing is getting old.
Would be nice to achieve something for a change.

I guess Ill have to check my trusty old Xbox controller out...
But leaving 200 euros laying on the table is kinda hurting me...

I bet its a driver or another software thing tho...
Just need to wait for improvements I guess.

Cheers!

edit:

Quite interresting.
I was playing with the hotas while i had the software program open and looking at programming on throttle unit window.
I moved the stick and buttons on throttle unit were flashing even tho I was not applying them.
Just randomly swinging the stick and twisting, I saw the toggles for gargo scoop and silent running and afterburner
flashing and activating.

Weird!

This is Bullsh**!

Just out of curiosity do you have the x-55 plugged into a USB2 or 3 port?
For me legacy support did not make much difference but plugging into a USB3 external hub that has it's own power supply eliminated the ghost key issues.

I have them plugged in to USB3 directly through the back of the PC so perhaps both the USB3 drivers and disabling legacy support are both crucial to fixing the issue.

***! Hehe! My mobo has only 6 usb slots and theyr all usb 2.0... !

Oh well...

Im, speechless....

Edit: It SHOULD work with usb2.0 tho since thats in requirements...

Cheers!

imho, the dials on the throttle are useless for ED. Everything else looks good, but I prefer the CH Pro throttle hats and buttons. Sometimes, less is more.

Are your gear deployed, by any chance?

I have an X-65F, which uses similar software as the X-55. When taking off, I often get a fairly pronounced roll, but when I retract my landing gear it goes away. Dunno whether it's an elite thing or a joystick thing.

I contacted one of the UK on-line sites that have sold and was told they have no date as to when it will be available again.

It is now working fine, thanks to advice from Aleksej.
Deadzone on 50 on all axes did the trick
:)

The squeak on the twist that someone else mentioned a few pages ago has developed on mine now. Very annoying, especially considering I use twist as roll.

I might have to see about opening the stick up if it gets any worse.

However, extensive use does seem to have loosened up the base plate for the spring a little, so not getting the farting noise any more, and it only sticks occasionally so that's slowly improving.

Regarding the issue with the X55 software not registering the devices properly, I finally had a reply from Saitek support regarding it and they're now looking into the issue.

I'm enjoying using the X55. It's my first HOTAS setup. I've had no issues with drivers (Win 8.1), just plugged it in and works fine with E: D. Only things I've changed are setting a slight deadzone on pitch/roll (in the E: D menus) and reassigning Supercruise and Hyper to one of the toggles (second one down on the right I believe). Everything else stock settings.

I have, however, had most of the reported issues with the joystick. The joy hardware seems to be an afterthought compared with the throttle. I had the sticking issue with the disc that the spring sits on. To counter that, I used some graphite lock lube (from Maplin if you're in the UK). Sprayed it above and below the disc and now the axis are super smooth.

However, after about 5 hours' of extended play this weekend, the creaking in the stick handle has appeared. Sounds and feels to me as though the two halves of the handle are grating against each other. Annoying, but doesn't affect play... yet.

I have mine plugged into USB3.0 ports as well and still no problems. Make sure you have the most current USB3.0 drivers for your Mobo as well.

I just picked up mine X55 today, I read about the sticking issues and took steps to fix it before I used the stick. It seem to be pretty good given the price. , I have had no issues with the software or drivers and I am running Windows 8.1 x64. I did go out to the website for the latest drivers and software. I did notice that my POV hat on the stick would not work without the software running but other than that everything looks fine. Frys offers a 30 day refund policy so I will log a ton of flight time and update the community if the performance begins to flatter after extended usage. Lastly there, is a way to modify the throttle so you can fly in reverse I just haven't found it yet.

I'm not entirely sure you can map reverse to the throttle axis due to the way the controls are designed. I think the game has to support it from the get go to have stop at a the 50% marker.
