So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

I was going to scan them before I made speedy contact with the first planet's surface! Wish I had at least taken a look before dying.

Here's a higher res screenshot (1440p):

Gonna make it a point to head back to this system if I'm out there again.

Last 2 look like cold gas or water giants. The first white one also. Middle one looks like a T-Tauri.

Its not unusual to find new stars here at the edge of the galaxy as its the one of the newest parts of the galaxy.

The orbits can vary and can also change over time due to a change in gravity as the star expands or dwindles etc.

Ive a feeling that middle planet is a high mettalic terraformable.

There is nothing unusual in the system though in terms of layout etc its just a newer system in the galaxy.

I've been scanning systems between Tionisla and Cemiess and checking Galnet. Currently in CRUCIS SECTOR FW-W C1-25 and getting a graphic glitch I havn't noticed before.

Whatever it was it went away as I got closer, wonder if it was just distance cliping

I had the same issue earlier. It was explained that anything past 32kls gets weird with the HUD overlay for the orbits. It's just a graphical glitch, nothing special (and I killed 20% of my armor checking to see if it was too).

I am beginning to think I have spent too much time looking for "something" not knowing what the something is. Maybe starting to see things.

Yeah happens. is why I went back and started grinding rep :D Will soon be begging to get back out into the black.

good tim to get rep up with minor factions that might play a part in 2.2 (cmeiss, sirius corporation, maia - ant hill mob and the imperial, alliance and fed corps out there, prism system, peregrina, ross 47 area, dark wheel, pilots federation and a host of others)

Hello Rifters! I have had a crazy month travelling for work and going to weddings. That being said, I recall a quickly cut off transmission that I THINK was referenced in a Galnet article sometime after Salome's cobra was retired. It said something about "SA-" before it was cut off. This was just after the EATSOF clue was revealed. Does anyone know where to find the bit of information I am referencing? I thought I took a screen shot of it so I could dig in deeper when I returned, but I can't find it. Can anyone help?

I'm not sure where that section of space is but I'm in the space between the two arms and it isn't showing consistently. I'll be away for about a week but I'm in the process myself of seeing if it leads to anything. I'm leaning with it being a bug, but maybe it leads to something else.

"Less nebulous."

Yep, that's why I'm back in the bubble as well. I wanted to participate in the Eafots-search, but I'm more and more inclined to think that whatever it is, it's in or beyond the Rift. The Eafots hint looks like -as someone said a few pages back- it was dropped just to get more people to participate in the Rift mystery.
I went back to upgrade my FSD to lvl 5, pull together some mats to have at least 15 100% boost jumps, gain access to more Engineers and build rep with factions connected to the Rift story.

I think I might chillax out here until an exploration CG appears in the bubble. Then I'm heading full speed back, and finishing my final grind with the empire rank and stockpiling money for a beluga.

I'm already past a thousand jumps since I left.

Thought I would link this thread I created in the Exploration forum...strange observation about the Heart Nebula not being rendered from systems in a cone-shaped region covering a section of CHI PERSEI sector. Maybe a graphical bug rather than anything significant, but worth checking out?

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ine-Rift-Chi-Persei-Anomaly?referrerid=108848

Sumbit a bug report. If it is a bug then Frontier should acknowledge it as one. If they say that it isn't a bug then this might be significant in unraveling the mystery of the Formidine Rift.

I've read numerous times where folks have mentioned this "rendering issue" but I've not read where anyone specifically heard back from a bug report.

If it is not a bug then I have an idea about how this could be used to find "It".

EDIT: If they reply with any ambiguity then we submit an article to Galnet: "The Day an Entire Nebula Disappeared" or something along those lines.

I think you got a bit of a misquote going there :p

I knew what he meant! XBox bug report submitted, let's see what they have to say.

As I was working my way up from about Y=-300, I have to admit I was expecting to find something of significance in the apex systems...what was the quote, something like a nebula is a good place to hide something? Even better if you hide the entire nebula!

Just a few thoughts here, relative to a few Galnet articles.

1. Galactic News - The Thargoids - 12 Aug 3302

"The first reported Thargoid encounters date from 3125, when accounts surfaced that pilots had been pulled from witch-space and attacked by mysterious octagonal starships. Witnesses asserted that the strange vessels were exceptionally fast and remarkably maneuverable. Pilots who survived these experiences were convinced they had encountered extraterrestrials, and named the aliens 'Thargoids'."

"As news of these encounters spread, rumours surfaced that the interdictions might be a response to an earlier human attack. Leaked Federal intelligence indicated that colonists in the Veliaze system had encountered and assaulted an extraterrestrial deputation shortly before the Thargoid interdictions began. Suggestions that the Thargoid attacks were a reaction to this attack carried more than a hint of plausibility."

"Not long after, reports of Thargoid encounters came to an abrupt halt. In the decades that followed, not one credible account of a Thargoid encounter was reported. For some, this was proof that the original reports were groundless – 'the fantasies of lonely pilots, looking for attention', as Arvan Corto of the Imperial Navy said at the time."

"But public opinion shifted in 3250 when reports emerged that the disappearance of the Thargoids might have been a direct consequence of a covert anti-Thargoid operation. An anonymous message, delivered to a number of media outlets, claimed that an organisation known as the Intergalactic Naval Reserve Arm had developed a chemical weapon specifically designed to target Thargoid technology. This chemical – known as the mycoid virus – was designed to attack plastic polymers, which were believed to be present in Thargoid hyperdrive systems. The fact that the virus also appeared to harm the Thargoids led to speculation that the aliens' bodies might contain some kind of polymer-like material. The report was dismissed by many leading political figures as a conspiracy theory, but some asserted that it contained enough plausible detail be believable."

"Since then, very little credible information has emerged. The original accounts from 3125 report that Thargoid ships can execute huge hyperspace jumps, while information purportedly from INRA documents indicates that the Thargoids originate from an ammonia-based world. There are even rumours that the Thargoids have a collective consciousness or 'hive mind'. Some ofthe less outlandish theories include the suggestion that electronic countermeasure technology was reverse-engineered from captured Thargoid vessels."

So. Did we start the war against the Thargoids in this canon? Was the human-engineered mycoid virus what brought down that spaceship in the Pleiades? Also, should we be checking for and cataloging Ammonia based worlds? Is that why those probes were sent out, to catalog habitable worlds for the Thargoids?

2. Galactic News: Assassination attempt on Patreus thwarted - 20 Aug 3302

Recent reports indicate that an attempt was made on the life of Admiral Denton Patreus as he delivered aspeech at Mackenzie Relay in the Cemiess system. The Imperial Internal Security Service confirmed that it apprehended three individuals carrying firearms who attempted to approach the admiral's podium.

Following the incident, Admiral Patreus appeared slightly shaken but said: "I will never submit to terror. These individuals will be brought to justice."

Subsequent reports identified the culprits as belonging to the organisation Emperor's Dawn, but it is rumoured that the dissidents were bankrolled and supported by a second party.

"Emperor's Dawn was smashed –it's history," said a researcher for the Imperial Citizen."Someone else was behind this – someone with a major grudge against Patreus."

Could that someone be Salome, and if so why? Why would she want Patreus dead? Does she know something about the Thargoids? Maybe that they don't want war, but to live in peace? Is Patreus for wiping them out? Is there an active genocide against them currently? Are the Thargoids not the primary threat, but forces within the Empire itself? (Total tinfoil!)

3. Freelance Report: Commander Salome Hijacked in Cemiess - 23 Aug 3302

Recent articles published by the Imperial Citizen may have inspired an act of violence in the Cemiess system over the weekend. Commander Nodus Cursorius of the Chapterhouse of Inquisition reported a transmission from Commander Salomé of the Children of Raxxla, indicating that her ship had been attacked by unknown forces.

A transcript of Commander Salomé's distress call follows:

"Heavy fire...mayday! Imperial markings! Traitors... Shields are down, we're taking damage...it's...I thought I sensed his arrogance! How dare... We're being boarded. Ionly have moments. Please get word to the Children of Raxxla, tell them I have new information. The Rift, Hawkin's Gap and the Conflux are connected with strange happenings in the Pleiades. They must find out before..."

At that point Commander Salomé's transmission was silenced. Despite a thorough search, no sign of her has yet been found.

The Imperial Citizen had suggested that Commander Salomé is in fact Senator Kahina Tijani Loren of the Prism system. The publication also implied that she had engineered the events that led to her family's death in order to position herself as heiress of the Loren family dynasty.

So, it's apparent they at least suspect Commander Salome of attempting to assassinate Patreus. The real intriguing question is; If she did have a hand in it, why? Why would she want him dead?

Salome is not the murdering type I don't think. She is only wanted for what she has found out. She hacked the imperial database to find something in the rift. They want to shut her up.

Someone posted an "odd" order of planets/stars a page or two ago - and here's one that pretty much matches that. Not saying its odd, it appears totally legit. Just wanted to point out the stars are T Tauris and big ol' blue is a B class. There are some unique orders out here, but I don't think they are a clear indication of something UNLESS they match a pattern like the comma/period stuff from the Good Luck and Right On Commander or other statements. However, I think we are looking for something larger than a single solar system.

Best of luck everyone! I'm still trying to get the whole anomaly thing sorted and there are results but far from anything conclusive or indicative of an actual intention behind them. I posted in the Bug forum, posted my videos, even requested a followup if it was actually intended or a bug with no response. So, going with the lead I have now but I'll be sure to update should it prove to be a dead end.

Keep your eyes open - if we are looking for something that's been here since Gamma it must be something fairly simple but most likely a decent size... perhaps an uncharted nebula or something that is only visible close to in/near "The Rift."

I agree, Salome isn't. However, I'm pretty sure Kahina is.
I don't remember her going around plotting to kill anyone in the book. She did not have the nicest past but I never seen her as the murdering or plotting to assassinate type. I think something else is going on. She is being framed to legitimise her abduction to keep something quiet.
