Best place to buy PC copy?

Hey all,

Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong place. I considered putting into the support section but none of the ticket headers fitted.

Anyway, simple question really - where would you recommend buying the PC copy of the Commander's Edition from? I've noticed the game's sold at Amazon, on Steam, from the Frontier store etc. but also read that people have had issues with Steam copies/activating the game via Steam.

Any recommendations?

(Again, apologies if in wrong section).

Just get it from FD's own store. It's the same price, you can integrate it to steam later if you want to and that way they get the most of the money you pay without third parties getting a share (30% in steam's case). It's better to support the developer if you are already set on making a purchase.

Since you'll end up with FD for the activation in any case (except on XBone), I'd go directly for the Frontier Store. I originally bought the base game on Steam, then switched to FD only with Horizons. Probably still got one or two Steam corpses lying on my drive.

I buy everything directly from the Frontier Store. I want to support the development of the game as best as i can.

Note, that once you have requested a steam key, you cant go back and will have to buy any upcoming DLCs from Steam as far as i know.

You can support both FD and the community by supporting one that contribute to Elite in other ways. Radio sidewinder has link which give revenue to run the radio if you buy the game from that link. (still through frontier store) I know there are more...

Another advantage of buying direct from FD is that other family members can play titles in your Steam account while you are playing Elite through the family sharing option as you are not using it. We use this a lot.

Bought it direct from the Frontier Store, but then associated it with Steam.

Turns out I never play it through Steam anyway (caused more hassles than any potential benefits)...

Which again shows the fallacy of all the people screaming about Steam numbers falling off so the game must be dying right? (*Not limited to ED)

I am going to avoid any steam association, if possible. I despise that most of my PC games have to be linked through Steam, regardless of who I buy them through.
