***POLL NOW CLOSED*** IMPORTANT, OFFICIAL SHIP TRANSFER POLL

Yes obviously, what I'm saying is that the NPC flying my ship should not have that loading screen so you can't really include it in the time it takes for the NPC to jump my ship to me IMO. Seems dumb to make it take a full minute to jump between systems when the only reason it takes a player that long is their computer
It gets more frustrating when you realize that NPCs do NOT have the fsd time delay. I got interdicted by a NPC FDL over 4 tons of modular terminals, I got interdicted by that same FDL 500ly away a 20 minutes later. I was in a 55ly jump anaconda. There's no way a FDL could not simply catch up to me but be there waiting for me at my destination. If NPCs are the ones piloting these transfer ships then the only logical answer is that transfers would be instantaneous. It already is for NPCs.

I was all for instant transfer -- I'll take gameplay over realism any time. But... on reflection, the fact that it severely compromises the advantages/disadvantages of different jump ranges is too big a problem to ignore. I think the feel of the different ships is more important.

Wow... well this thread got big quick.

Well done for listening Frontier! I hope the vote goes to it taking some time - a bit of difficult and awkward is important in games, it's all part of the character and challenge to overcome and an important element in the balance of choices in how to proceed at any particular time.

Thanks, Sandro and Frontier for the poll. I voted for the delay as that is my preference. [up]

I understand the desire to have access to any of your ships anywhere so that you can get on with playing the game, but in my mind, that changes the meaning of playing the game too much in the first place. I also hope this will allow for more immersive and compelling content being added around this transfer feature in the future.

Thanks again, Frontier. Taking the time to engage directly with the community here and providing a poll is very much appreciated.

If they actually put the transport process IN-GAME by modeling these transports and having them actually arrive in the system and station for the offload, that would go a long way to making the delay idea a universally accepted idea. We would actually see the process unfold in the game, rather than the ship just showing up in the menus of the station.

I know this would take more work, but it would sure be cool to see the process actually modeled into the game and make these huge transport ships a thing you often see in-game going about their business of delivering ships to various stations etc.

Man there are so many other things Frontier could be doing that is way more fun and cool than modeling this stuff. If you want to wait an undetermined amount of time for minor updates incrementing towards features that will never arrive, go fund Star Citizen.

That would be awesome.

Fantastical imaginings:
.. perhaps attach an "escort" mission to it as pirates may want the goodies inside.

100 minutes sounds a bit stiff, I would have gone for 60 as the max value to be honest. Especially if the bubble is 400 Ly across

I will vote for time but hope that it will be tweaked, because any ship with ~20 Ly does that in less than 45 minutes.

Ship transfer is altogether a great idea. I was also thinking that the instant transfer of your ship could occur if the station sold that particular ship in the shipyard and similarly for modules. If the station doesn't sell the ship or module then allow a moderate time delay.

Hmm... I just realised the poll is tied to your FD account, of which I have two. So do I skew the results by voting twice, or do I do the honest thing and only vote once even in the knowledge that many other multiple account owners will be skewing things their way?

I might hold off on this until there's some clarification. Do FD have any way of filtering out multiple votes? Both of mine have the same payment information and e-mail domain, but that might not be true for everyone. Or are there a sufficient number of multiple account owners that everything will balance out if we all cast multiple votes? Any statisticians in here?

If you bought both accounts from the same bank card, yeah they probably could.. but I suspect they'd expect you to vote honestly and only once. :p

A simple pin in the galaxy map to show the ship transfer/modules moving would be all I would want added.

Not worth a million dev hours but would be nice.

I do not want instant transfer and...

... I DO NOT WANT 3D PRINTING LORE.

I do not want printed new ship. I want to fly my old good FDL with scratched hull, with a bit curve frame after hitting Farragut at Lugh battle (still it drifts a bit to right (better to right than to left)), and i do not want to have new L9, i like to smell of fish in my old, and i do not want 3d printed CUTTER, because at my old good cutter TWH got best party ever, and still imperial slave princesses are calling me 'flyboy'.

i do not want 3d printing lore of my starships.

activity is not achievement, busywork is not detail, arbitrary timers are just arbitrary time. you were right to start with sandro, all people are going to do is sit in the station for X minutes and do nothing, just another fun tax that serves literally no good goddamn purpose at all

Why should he go play SC? Just because he want's to see some features in the game he already enjoys playing?

I'm baffled by people saying they are have a very limited amount of time to play but are voting for a delay. This is pretty irrational to me. You are voting for realism at the expensive of your limited play time to have fun. So how much time are you willing to give up now and in the future for realism. if you have 2-3 hrs a week will you give up 50%? How about 100%? You would then have a very realistic game, but have no time to play it and will have to make do with minecraft or tetris. This is a zero sum game, if it is introduced then you will see a reduction your game time, unless you do things the old fashioned way. FD will likely use this decision to as a landmark where they opt for delays in other future features.

Regardless of the outcome of this, I do hope that the fee for transporting the ship is adjusted based on the size/value of the ship that's being moved. It'll make the feature more accessible to the less wealthy and newer players. In terms of lore/immersion I can see it being more expensive to transport a fully kitted out T9 than a barebones T9. I'd also think that a T9 would be waaaay more expensive to transfer than a sidey for example.

If ships can be transferred instantaneously then so could cargo, therefore no need for my type 9 which I worked damn hard for.

The point of the T9 is so you can fly it around shipping stuff so you can have fun doing that, because that's what you enjoy. Ships can be transferred instantly, just like escape pods when your T9 gets blown up by a station because you were speeding when an Eagle committed suicide into you.

You can have instant ship transfer and your T9 will be there still and you can still fly around with it.

I want to let you in on a secret, but don't tell anyone okay? Nobody needs your T9 because it's a game and the cargo is made up and the money doesn't matter.

5 minute minimum? It's like FDEV are trying to add as much needless friction as possible into the game just to annoy players. Voted instant.
