***POLL NOW CLOSED*** IMPORTANT, OFFICIAL SHIP TRANSFER POLL

At the end of the day if it's in system it should be instant just in the aspects of time. For ships around the system I'm fine waiting. But if it's instant that's fine to get up walk around and then the ships there it's the same concept roughly. I wish there was a bulk transfer option of small ships.

Dingdingdingdingding! Someone gets it.

The people who are screaming for a delay to ship transfer should, if their concerns are logically consistent, also be screaming for a similar delay for your escape pod to travel after your rebuy screen. "You must wait 57 more minutes for your escape pod to reach your last station."

No? No one? But surely realism and immersion requires that delay, because it's completely ridiculous and lore-breaking that you can be at Beagle Point, die, and literally instantly find yourself safe and sound back in the bubble with a new ship.

Oh, right: that wouldn't be fun at all. Surely someone can explain how this is different, despite breaking the exact same aspects of lore and scientific realism.

Good gameplay trumps realism. Forcing players to just sit around and wait isn't even gameplay at all.

LOL. It isn't and no one is arguing with you. All you're doing is arguing for delay to be added to the rebuy screen.

@Sandro and team

Possible we could get a count on number of votes, so far?

Please don't post any results. We don't want to influence the vote like that.

A lot of comments here seem to be treating it as the theoretical absolute worst-case 'it will always take 100 minutes to do something different, I can't plan ahead and I have to just sit there' - this isn't the case at all. Assuming that you will leave your ship on the opposite side of the bubble and keep travelling the whole way across in some other ship every time, yet be totally unprepared for the additional time to summon the correct ship that you could have taken in the first place, is an extreme and totally avoidable behaviour on the part of the player.

If the costs are decreased in the delayed scenario (as stated by Sandro in the OP) and at reasonable levels based on distance, you would simply summon your fleet (or key role ships anyhow) each time you travel to a different part of the bubble - say over 50 ly - as soon as you arrive. That way, your ships are available on a few minutes' notice whenever you need them in the neighbouring systems, for a small cost overhead.

Going with instant transfers from the start is a one-way deal that offers no scope for further balancing/tweaking in the future. By starting off with delayed transfers, the cost and speed can be tweaked if it does introduce gameplay issues, to either make it more useful or to prohibit easy-win scenarios/exploits or if it does seriously unbalance things - and it doesn't eliminate the option to make it insta-transfer later if absolutely necessary.

This feature is going to have a significant impact on gameplay either way - let's take it slow and keep as many options open as possible rather than rush into something that breaks the game and is effectively irreversible.

Dear Frontier Development,

I must say I'm rather worried about the divide this issue has caused in the community. The mud is flying. The air is toxic. No toy left in the pram.

Luckily, I have a solution that will reunite the Elite Community. No ship transfer. I know, you're raising eyebrows, wondering: "how would that help?". Well, the genius part of the solution is, you communicate "We decided not to implement ship transfer because Ziggy Stardust doesn't want it". Boom! Everyone unites in hating Ziggy.

I could buy a sidey, call it "The Scapegoat" and go into deep space carrying the sins of the Bubble.

No need to thank me, you're welcome :)

Hmm... I just realised the poll is tied to your FD account, of which I have two. So do I skew the results by voting twice, or do I do the honest thing and only vote once even in the knowledge that many other multiple account owners will be skewing things their way?

I might hold off on this until there's some clarification. Do FD have any way of filtering out multiple votes? Both of mine have the same payment information and e-mail domain, but that might not be true for everyone. Or are there a sufficient number of multiple account owners that everything will balance out if we all cast multiple votes? Any statisticians in here?

You paid your money then you have two Cmdrs so you have two votes. You can vote against yourself if you want to cancel yourself out if you feel guilty about it, both of my Cmdrs voted in favour of delay, capitalism is a B .

A couple of things.

People complaining about cargo transport being instant are getting upset about nothing. Stored ships cannot carry cargo, the game requires cargo be transfered to your new ship. So if you are going from a T9 to an Asp Ex you will need to empty your hold first.

I voted for a timer personally. If transfer were instsnt (and hopefully costly) FD would need to greatly need to rebalance the game for free instant transfer. The entire balance of the heavy combat ships is that they can't jump far/fast.

So much of the game revolves around learning efficient ways to navigate the galaxy. I feel that instant travel would simplify the game to "fly asp ex to station transfer in my combat ship of choice".

Hell if you want to put instant travel in at least put in some sort of Mass Effect/Stargate type tech where it's only fixed jump points in habited space. Then at least these huge gates would add gameplay elements.

There would still be the risk of pirates at gates. You could have CG's to build new gates in more remote systems. All the RP people would be happy because it isn't just a menu option that has no basis in lore.

I voted the second option just because i want to see this big ships in game, maybe using the same technology to jump of the capital class ships, or just bigger FSDs, that would be so cool..
I voted instant but I also want big ships in game. Heck I want an "executive control" capital ship that's just a medium bay, huge cargo bay and capital class hyperdrive. A deep space exploration ship-base for my Asp.

Also wish they'd re-work the Asp Scout, creating a new ship design category like combat/multi-role/cargo, exploration. Namely strip the ship of everything that's not needed for exploration like weapon hardpoints and large internal bays, put the saved space/mass into a much larger FSD and a large fuel scoop only internal bay. I'd gladly pay 100million for a an Asp Scout with a class 6 FSD, and size 4 "fuel scoop only" internal, other internals reduced to size 2 or smaller and no weapon hardpoints.

Heck, I'd fund 1billion cr for the development of "long range hauler" which has a size 4 fsd instead of room for cargo. If in game companies were real I'd be throwing credits at them for custom exploration ships. Anyone who says that instant transfer will remove the need for high rated FSDs hasn't done long range trips.

Do you think if they had proposed "delay" from the start, there would be as much controversy? I wonder if we would be having this discussion at all...

Man there are so many other things Frontier could be doing that is way more fun and cool than modeling this stuff. If you want to wait an undetermined amount of time for minor updates incrementing towards features that will never arrive, go fund Star Citizen.

WOW! Glad I don't share your rather boring opinion on how a game should be improved.

Adding some actual in-game mechanics to this new feature would go a long way to backing up the whole time delay aspects. Even something as simple as the ability to TRACK the progress of the transfer like you would with a UPS package online would help add to the immersion aspects.

This is after all a NEW FEATURE ADDITION. Rather than just treating it as a fast way of moving your fleet around they could make the process a part of the game and give players the ability to watch the transfer happen. This feature IS COMING, so speculating on what other things they should have done instead is a complete waste of time.

Then again.... They could take your advice and make it nothing interesting at all. ;)

As has been said numerous times. Sitting in you escape pod doing nothing is not game play. Doing combat, trading, missions while your ship is in transit is game play. To say otherwise is obviously ludicrous.

Are you aware that there is no ship transfer at all in the game right now?

How does adding time-consuming ship transfer mechanic add any friction to the game if there is no actual mechanic right now whose timing would be prolonged?

Of course I'm aware of that. I'm also aware of FDEV taking two steps backward with every step forward by adding a needless time-sink/fun tax to everything they try to do.

...and yet again I'm baffled as to how the insta-crowd managed to play this game up until now. -->>Even.With.A.Delay.You.Will.Still.Get.An.Improvement.To.Gameplay.<<--

Have you actually done the maths on the example? Because you'd have realised that a 1200 LY transport request would take ~7 hours. Good chance to catch up on some Netflix or grind out that engineer upgrade for hours, then.

If we have delay for transfer then we should also have a tool to order that transfer to any location in advance.
I don't see any benefits of having a delay for the sake of delay.

What about instant futures that are in game from begining and none was complaining about them? What about instant respawn in the same destroyed ship, with same "rare" upgrades? What about instant pilot teleporting after death to the center of human space? I've been traveling 3 days to Jaques station, selling there my Anaconda and self destruct in Sidewinder - in obout 30 seconds (loading) I was in the middle of the "bubble" without any costs. And now everybody are crying about instant ship transfer, what a hypocrisy :D

Oooooh. Is this all just a conspiracy to get us to buy multiple copies!
