***POLL NOW CLOSED*** IMPORTANT, OFFICIAL SHIP TRANSFER POLL

Instant ship transfers... why stop there... I mean why not make my ship jump 5000ly.. jumping so short puts a delay on my arrival and is annoying ... why not remove refueling and rearming... it all so much of a hassle.. why not remove any delay in docking the ship... you fly inside the station ... and BOOM instantly docked.... wait when i arrive in the system.. BOOM instantly docked at the station i wanted to go too..

Not a fan of the instant ship transfer :p

And as has been said numerous times, "go and do something else" simply is not an option for everyone. If you're in a bounty hunting ship, but tonight you're on call or watching your kid so need to stick to peaceful trade routes in Solo, you're pretty much screwed. And if you're bored to tears of trading, telling someone to go run trade routes while they wait for their bounty hunting ship might as well be telling them not to play the game.

How did you manage to play the game for the last year and a half then?

Only solower are in favor of instant, guys can you understand it Will totaly destroy the game and any balance for all the open side of the game....

I'm gonna be as constructive as I possibly can here and say that there is absolutely nothing good or redeeming about anything having to do with Star Citizen and there is zero reason Frontier should go about trying to be as good at making fingerpaint art on construction paper as CIG just because Chris Roberts is really good at fingerpainting on construction paper if you know what I mean.

Graphics.
Ship designs.
Ship count ( lots of choice is a good thing, though it needs be said I don't agree with paying real cash for each ship )
Station/ship walking.
Planetary scale ( if you haven't, log into SC, go into Crusader then go out ( yes, out ) onto the landing pad and take a look at the size of the planet in comparison to you ).
Ship customisation from a first-person perspective ( you can walk around your ship, select a location where a weapon is and then change the weapon type ).
Personal hanger customisation.
Base design ( see Alpha 3.0 release video ).

To name a few things.

Well, my disclaimer failed.
The point wasn't really about SC.
Not at all actually.
The point was to discuss what i think would be an interresting gameplay mechanic addition to Elite, aka a wait timer on rebuy screen.
So quoting a person who mentionned this possibility on a highly debated and (i think) closely-watched-by-FD topic AND because we are talking about ship related timer in game.

It's just to add weight on an interresting suggestion.
Nothing else, nothing more.

As has also been said numerous times: if your personal sense of immersion requires a delay, waste your own time voluntarily. Don't force everyone else to waste their time just because you lack the self-control to enforce a delay upon yourself.

Would ALL posters please refrain from criticising the individual, rather than debating the topic at hand?

Note it is NOT necessary for you to post repeatedly everytime someone voices an opinion which differs from your own. Read the OP, log in and vote accordingly, and by all means post (once) your reasoning behind your vote, if you think it'll add something to the topic.

But do NOT engage in circular arguments, otherwise moderation is likely to occur.

Kind Regards,

2 quick things....

1. Thanks FDev for listening... Big thanks...

2. Personally, I was undecided about this for a long time.... First, totally against instant, then in favour of. Me being me, I've hit a middle ground.
For a fee, it should take time to transfer.
For a massive fee, it should be instantaneous.

Not groundbreaking in any way, I know, but it gets us round some of the problems.
Want the ship now? For a CG or pew-pew? Pay a shirt-ton for it. (Shirt, like you're gonna have to haul from Ceos a few times to make back the money).
Moving home system?... Take your time...

Not perfect I know, but no solution is.

Hello commanders
I have voted for the time delay but I would like to make clear I feel this type of game mechanism should have been a player to player transaction. Player need more player interaction with each other and hauling for other player though a contract system would have been a better game play mechanism.

I feel we deal with the npc way to much and it would have been nice to see FDev move the game in that direction. I can only hope they see that we need more player to player involvement.

Why won't you make both options viable with a price tag on the transfer depending on distance?

Longer distance = more expensive to instantly transfer.

Let players pick how long they want to wait and let them pay accordingly.

Never Repped Mr Fang before but this is a seriously tasty idea! +1

Have you actually done the maths on the example? Because you'd have realised that a 1200 LY transport request would take ~7 hours. Good chance to catch up on some Netflix or grind out that engineer upgrade for hours, then.
You'd think someone would have decided to start using those huge station moving hyperdrives to haul bulk quantities of freight. They can reach any point in the galaxy nearly instantly. Heck, here's an idea. A station that never finishes construction, keep it as is, and have it jump back and forth between the bubble and Jaques.

Also how much would a used station mover hyperdrive tug cost?

and sitting on your ship travelling 22.000 ly doing the same sequences (=same things: jump, scoop, jump scoop and so on) is different? And still it is in the game...

If you wanted to eliminate that particular activity you'd have to teleport the player, not the ship.

This is crazy people, instant transfer is fine, as is instant cargo loading and instant escape pod return..... Would you like a poll to have a 30 minute delay to load 500t cargo, or be locked out the game for 100 minutes while your escape pod made its way back to the last station.

Please vote to leave things the same, no delay!!!

Your not locked out of the game whilst waiting on a transfer. You still have the ship your flying to play in.

Graphics. ED's is good enough
Ship designs. MEH
Ship count ( lots of choice is a good thing, though it needs be said I don't agree with paying real cash for each ship ) In progress
Station/ship walking. In Progress
Planetary scale ( if you haven't, log into SC, go into Crusader then go out ( yes, out ) onto the landing pad and take a look at the size of the planet in comparison to you ).Planets not to scale in SC...it is just absurdly close to you
Ship customisation from a first-person perspective ( you can walk around your ship, select a location where a weapon is and then change the weapon type ). That is a pretty cool feature, but I'd rather place my order on a screen of some type and then see workers apply them
Personal hanger customisation. No thanks. The galaxy is my hanger, YOU SHALL NOT TIE ME DOWN!!!!
Base design ( see Alpha 3.0 release video ). This is legit good...but you should have a peak at some of the concept art for ED's interiors.

To name a few things.

I hate the idea of a delay for this. It was designed as a quality of life feature not an immersion feature. Regardless if the delay gets more votes it should be a low ratio like 1 minute for each 100 LY the ship has to travel. So for the bubble that would mean maybe max of like 5-10 minutes. If you want to transfer your ships to Jaques it would take 210 minutes or 3 1/2 hours. I find that reasonable.

It makes sense that it would be instant because ships would be sold remotely and prepared locally. (Note: It would be a bad idea to base transfer fee on price differences only because it's an easy avenue for exploitation.)

The only real hitch in this model is when considering module availability on market. While it can be glazed over as additional stock not up for sale, it gets a bit less believable when talking about custom modules (engineered) which can't technically be replicated on the fly, but I think we can let that slide.

This bit was the most disappointing part of my week that started off with a terrible head cold over a holiday.
We’ll run the poll until Monday next week. *Unless there is a significant, majority vote against ship transfer delivery times, along with a high turnout*, we will likely be moving towards implementing plausible delays into ship and module transfer,

Until I saw this bit

though such a change may affect when the features comes online.

Which far surpassed it in disappointing-ness.

I've been severely hardcore in some games in the past (hi WoW) and understand that long-time players should get a decent say on an issue that affects their immersion.

But in ED I'm pretty casual. I work full time. I do some occasional several hour sessions on the weekends, but usually only get a chance to drop in for an hour on some week nights. A one hour delay for the sake of additional realism is brutal.

Someone said buried in this long thread "then we need less of you [casual] in this game". Not at all. It's a game for everyone. If you really want your immersion, then make it an option that you can toggle on. Or put an increasing timer on transfers, so those with less time can enjoy the game more freely. Make up some lore around it.

A 5-10 minute time delay is tolerable. But an hour just punishes people who play occasionally, at the price of giving some additional immersion to those who play for hours on end and for whom "an hour wait" isn't their entire game time budget for the day.

That would be awesome.

Fantastical imaginings:
.. perhaps attach an "escort" mission to it as pirates may want the goodies inside.

Thanks! :D

I figure that if this feature is going into the game (which it obviously is), and more than likely will have a delay component (FD would not have posted this poll otherwise since they had already said INSTANT before), then why not turn this into a truly BIG NEW FEATURE for 2.2?

HUGE Transport Ships IN-Game! Not only to help bring realism to the ship transfer feature, but as you said... Expand missions to involve escort and protection missions revolving around these ships. Capital Ship involvement has been pretty lack luster, but everyone loves checking them out!

If Transports were nearly that size and actually moved around and did stuff, I think most ED players would quickly get over the delayed transport thing, since they would be very familiar with the vessels that are actually doing the transporting. :) And would likely have been involved in some missions to keep them safe on their way to offload some other Commander's ships. :D
