The End Game Shouldn't Be Ships

Hi All,

Long ago Blizzard learnt the lesson about making Raids where no one will ever see them. For example NAX. In recent years steps have been made to allow all players to see the content which has taken huge resources to make.

For example, The Anaconda. It must have taken a lot of time and effort to make that ship, but how many % of Elite players have ever flown it? 0.5%, 0.2%?

If it was possible to get these ships without having to spend hundreds of hours of grinding it wouldn't be so much of a waste. I'd rather Frontier took the time from making these ships no-one will ever own and make the base game have more content.

I'd also rather everything in this game was not geared up to getting the next biggest ship. It should be more of a land owning war between players and factions. I just see getting ships as a hurdle to get over, to start enjoying the game.

I can't even be bothered to login right now to try and get a Imperial Courier as it's going to take to much effort. I just want to explore the galaxy and fight other players in a decent ship. Not, to have to grind away like crazy to just start my journey.

The problem is not find the money for the Anaconda, but to find the money to upgrade all the modules!, costs twice! lol!

There is no early/mid/end game in Elite because nothing changes as you get bigger ships.
There is the first hint of some new gameplay/option that depend on your ship with ship-launched fighters.
Hopefully they expand on this and give ship roles that extend beyond being bigger than the previous ship.

getting the conda is actually what made me take break because of how ultimately disappointing hitting that 'goal' was, it's brick with a jump range of        all, however i acknowledge that this disappointment is based in that the 'conda is perceived as being the 'endgame' ship and really, just like every ship it's simply designed to do particular things and for a particular playstyle, that isn't for me, and is not the ED equivalent of 'raid gear'.
Now i understand that i'm thinking of starting fresh.

Endgame is when you have billions in cash and fully kitted out Conda,Cutter,Corvette and such sitting in a hangar while you fly around in a eagle and having fun. endgame is when you realize there is no endgame.
There is no spoon!

...and no endgame either.

Elite sells itself as a sandbox style game that doesn't have an end, but ultimately it does. It's just paced like an ant pushing a bowling ball across a desert.

Either you have a sandbox game where you find fun things to do with the things you've unlocked/collected (this is not Elite - all there is to do with the things you've collected is use them to collect more things), or you have a backstory-driven MMO where people are meant to team up to take on the baddies.

Elite seems like the latter, just without the ability to team up or even see most players, and no baddies that require any teamwork. And no story to speak of, since the alien thing really isn't a story as much as a couple teasers and cryptic clues. It moves too slowly for the vast majority to care one iota about.

"Hundreds of hours" to get an Anaconda? Well I guess it can take hundreds of hours to learn enough to realize that it takes a couple days at most to earn the money for an Anaconda.

And it only takes a couple minutes in an Anaconda to realize that small ships are way more fun to fly.

I dunno, it takes people various hours to figure out how to play a game, if it's a special game. It took me 9 hours until I finally figured out how to play Dark Souls properly, so, ya know.

True. I have played for over 1500 and I still learn new things. Making money though is quite easy especially if you know how to use search. Learning how to kit and fly an Anaconda effectively takes a bit more time though for most players.

It did in fact take me many hundreds of hours to earn an Anaconda:) Of course I was a no account vagabond who didn't really buckle down to any particular activity, and I never visited the forums in those early days...

What is end game for this game? Powerplay?

Rep.

Sorry, but that was actually hilarious and I coughed on a mouthful of coffee. My lungs?! Greifer!!!1 ;)

There are ways to expedite gaining a large ship. Learning to fly and actually use it though? That's where things get interesting. ;)

Not sure if serious. Anyway, if you want to get a conda quickly, go to Sothis/Ceos and do long range haulage missions, you could probably get one in a day. It's pretty common for players to want that bigger better ship early on, but after you've flown them for a while...well a lot of people go back to the small ships because they are actually more fun to fly. I spend most of my time in an iCourier or iEagle, the conda is for fast long range travel and exploration, mainly.

there is no end game. the end game hasn't been ships since they buffed gold earning.

the end game is to have fun. ships are only an "end game" if you make ships your focus.

Me as well. Then I promptly sold it within 5 minutes because it removed most of the challenge interest and skill from the game.

But now that they are bringing in ship launched fighters, I may just add one to the fleet to see if it's worth while again. I imagine it just make things even simpler and easier though.

Funny as it sounds, I wouldn't know the first thing about fighting in one. I've got mine all dialed in for defensive measures and I'm very confident in flying it into and out of PvP patrolled areas as an armored truck, but I've never had any weapons on it. I guess I should probably learn one of these days.
