How I lost 60 million in a day.

Spent most of my weeks off playing Elite lately, day and night I've been running long distance cargo, many long hours back and forth in my Type 6. Don't get me wrong, I like my type 6. I have every upgrade for it I could find. It is streamlined for long range hauls and quick fuel scoops along the way.

Finally I saved up 60 million, and I bought a Python. I managed a few upgrades and away I went. This time I decided, since I've spent most of the game running cargo, I would try some of the other missions available. I tried a salvage mission, and went off looking for these signal sources. Unfortunately for me, I found one with about 6 Anaconda's loitering. They slowly turned to face me and by then I was turning to run away. My shields went down in a few seconds and once they were gone, my armor might as well have been paper. Unfortunately I was about 1 million short of spawning it back in, so I had to take the free Sidewinder. That's 60 million I'll never see again.

Back in my type 6, doing endless cargo runs, I feel like it's an episode of twilight zone or something. [haha]

Well at least you won't do that again. Save money for a rebuy.

Ouch.
6 Anacondas?
I haven't found those.
In any case, always look for the threat level in the signal source info. If your ship is not a war machine stay away from 3 and up.

I found 25 vultures with my anaconda. I high waked. This happened months ago.

Haven't seen one of these threads in a while!

Insurance is important.
Don't fly without it. :p

Also, don't fly an under equipped Python either. They can be a bit death trappy.
You need about 80-90mil to buy and outfit a Python so it's any good.
Once it's A rated it's more or less invincible. :)

Here's mine(it had some mods, Multi Purpose Python

Mostly overcharged power plant (33mw), grade 5 FSD range (48%), and dirty drives 3.
Plus some low level shield booster mods.

It can do CZ runs with no issues.

Don't worry. It happens. I sold incidentally my fully crafted Anaconda (few weeks of grind)... and not recovered.

Oh wow. Not enough insurance. I've flown without, but never faced a rebuy screen when I did. Major kudos for not posting another rage-quit story.
.
As mentioned, a mostly stock Python is a death trap. I'd say you need 110 million before it starts getting 'OK'. Pre 2.1 nerf, I feared nothing and no-one in my 200 million Python. That ship was a brute. Post nerf, and with the heat meta, not so much. Still, with properly engineered additions, I hear it shines just as bright.

Sorry for the loss, but good sharing the lesson.

A few of the salvage missions I've played have waiting bad guys, or sometimes they drop in a few moments late, while I am busy collecting the cargo. I use my super fast Cobra Mk3 for those missions.

yo Jemmer,

firstly, you took it well man, kudos and +1, many would have sent in a major rant, you didn't.

I'm a Python man, love it, top ship. However I'm still flying it with 190m in the bank, no upgrade to Anny cos i aint sure its any better.

Like others, keep cash, stay comfortable and A rate that python. Similar build to that mentioned earlier, except multi cannons instaead of missiles and hull reinforcement used more. Shields modded lvl 2 and shiled boosters modded higher too.

Stick with it mate, you know what went wrong and I know (been there) you will come back stronger.

See you in the void

Python in the V2.1 world really needs Engineers to shine again (actually they can make it shine like in the old days, pre-agility nerf :) ).

A non- or only mildly upgraded Python should be treated as a quite vulnerable Ship. Almost like a Trader (i.e. a Type-7), even if it outclasses a Lakon Transporter in many respects.

Once High-Grade Engineer Mods are applied, the Python is fully "back in business" and take things on far more relaxed or offensively.

"Fear not any ship, of any size. For in time of need, I'll equalize." -a fully modded Python

sorry for your loss. but grats, how you take it!

beside the usual unsurance advice ...

DO NOT FLY A PYTHON OUTFITTED WITH ONLY 60 MIO

--- the cheapest usefull and a at least half-safe trading python outfit is 85 mio without discounts.

and that's a python, which will be slower then your t6, turn worse, and will be for trading only. not for bhing, not for going into USS.

be aware, that NPC spawns are also ship-dependent (i personally dislike that a lot), so with a python you get FDLs and anacondas interdicting you - and you can't outrun them like in a t6.

the python fun starts at 110-125 mio without discounts.
___

good, you didn't sold the t6!

if you like to try something else - how about an AspE as a step up?

Yeah threat 3, be prepared to run, and i only do 4 if im feeling stu..., er brave :)

I only go to those in my War, Engineered, fitted Corvette. But I haven't found 6 Anacondas so far. That sounds dreadful.

I flew a Python worth 80ish million. It could haul cargo but that was about it and the repair bills from my narrow escapes started adding up. I've since sold it to fund my FDL but I'm slowly grinding my way up to buy another. Since 2.1 I won't fly anything that isn't fully equipped.

I agree with goemon about the AspE. The Asp is an amazing ship and will always have a place in my fleet.

Ha, I bet you'll remember this gaming event for the rest of your life. :) Obligatory advice: get a small ship, whip it into shape and go ape!
