Delayed module transportation... Why?

Backdoor instant ship transport.
If the station you are at has a shipyard and the ship type you want transferred, you buy the ship and transport the modules you want. If it's instant then in effect you have instantly transported your ship.

This of course.

The player's ship is nothing more than a collection of modules and a hull. Take the hull out of the equation (if it's available locally) and with instant module transfer you get pseudo instant ship transfer. That's why module transfer must follow the same rule as ship transfer.

I just thought about something...

Let's suppose that you transfer modules from a far away station and log off to come back tommorow (you don't have time to wait before going to sleep). You come back, and you find out the station you transfered modules to is disrupted (UA bombing or other), then you can no longer access your module (or ships) from this station since it requires outfitting to do so.

You would be required to retransfer the modules to another station in order to access them, but wouldn't it be immersion breaking since the malfunctionning station isn't supposed to provide this service ?

I doubt UA bombing with affect transfers of any sort IMHO.

There's no question to be asked, FD said that if ship transfer was implemented with delay, so will be module transfer

And I'm trying to work out if this is just to keep things consistent... Or there's actually gameplay reasons (as per ships).

OK.. I'm all over delayed ship transportation. I get the balancing/hurdles/nuances of it.

However, delayed module transportation? What does that control/balance? Is it being done (assuming we go ahead with delayed ship transportation) just for the sake of it? Or is there a reason? I can't get my head around what it really adds/controls?

ps: Please do not discuss ship transportation. For the purpose of this thread, it's delayed. There are other threads for discussing that!

We need also delayed module transport because you can otherwise just insta-transport your ship piece of piece xD

Wanna have FDL 600ly away? No problem, just buy all combat modules, store them and make a longrange FDL from it. If you are docked at your 600ly far away station insta spawn all combat modules and outfit them.
Tadaaa! Insta ship transfer version piece for piece.

Sry but this is something that comes INSTANT in my mind to exploit :D

That sort of makes sense.... Want your engineered FDL 600ly away. Put all those modules in storage. Fly 600ly (in your Anaconda). Buy an FDL and then insta-fit all your engineered modules.

That wouldn't cover hull and maybe utilities, but it's significant enough!

Thanks! That's obvious now!

Instant transfer of modules would make outfitting services (and the factors that make up their availability like geographic location or station economy and state) in the whole bubble completely pointless, except for a few.

It would completely invalidate the whole "some systems have better outfitting than others" thing. Everyone would buy everything at some LYR system and it would be like having them all in your pocket all the time.

Anything which makes locations even more similar to all the others is a step back, not forward.
