If the fighter bay 3D prints fighters...

Why doesn't the SRV bay 3D print SRVs?

Maybe not the small ones, but the bigger ones you would think would be comparable, no?

Drone fighters are unmanned so aren't safety certified to carry human occupant. Your SRV has to have a safety inspection and have a little ticket put on it by some Health and Safety inspector.

Sometimes technical mitations aren't really technical limitations, but bureaucratic ones. :p

It's the most viable piece of head canon that I could come up with.

Why do you think this is not what is happening now ;)

Maybe when we buy more than one SRV the others are Ikea kits XD.

I see the whole thing as Ikea kits + some amout of printing/robotic assembly. When you consider the scale of the Bubble, it would make
a lot of sense (since the number/demand is so high, and that ED universe tech seems "stagnant", mass standardization makes a lot of sense)

Really not that keen on the 3d printing, call it a fighter manufacturing plant or something.

Build 'em from component parts you just restock at stations.

I like it!

Insert standard joke about Ikea instructions being hard to understand...

Though I do like what you're saying :)

This is the bit I don't understand about ship launched fighters. We have been told you can hire a pilot but he's on board your ship not the fighter and is using a VR type thing to fly so how is it he dies if the fighter is blown up?

If I'm not mistaken, he doesn't die... Unless the mothership is destroyed.

Looks like someone is piloting the fighter-craft, so I don't think they're unmanned.

I may be wrong, but I don't think fighters are actually supposed to be 3-D printed from scratch, but rather machine-assembled from kits with pre-made parts in the fighter bay.

3-D printing such a thing on demand would be very silly indeed.

Are materials required to 3D-print those fighters? Like iron, tungsten, molybdenum or somesuch?

Not exactly. You buy reloads which are in effect flat pack Ikea furniture and when required the bay 3-D prints/constructs it.

That's what I've come to understand from the description anyway.

Because pirates stealing such blueprints totally care about licensing.

Totally agree with you. Doesn't mean FDEV do though :(

Seppuku, so he does not bring dishonor to his family!
