Letter to the Editor, Imperial Citizen
Body:
Sir,
With reference to the recent editoral on Lady Kahina Tijani Loren
Citizens of the Empire have reacted with relief and joy to the remarks made recently by Her Imperial Highness Arissa Lavigny-Duval regarding the recent discovery of alien remains in Pleiades Sector AB-W B2-4. The contrast between Her Imperial Higness' wise words and those of President Hudson on the matter is quite striking and reflects the advantages of Imperial society when compared with the knuckle-dragging neanderthals that seem to have purchased the Federation's leadership. It is to be hoped that any future dealings with alien life will be led by the Empire with support from the Alliance of Independent Systems, whose leadership, as represented by Prime Minister Mahon, is showing signs of maturity in its approach to recent events.
However, the recent editorial in these pages regarding Lady Kahina Loren, also known to many as Commander Salome, struck a distinctly discordant note when considered in the light of the above mentioned public statements. It seems more than a little strange that this journal chose to publish its serial editorial at the time it did. One can only speculate that there was some reason for the frankly shoddy journalism displayed in a publication renowned across the galaxy for its journalistic expertise. Rather than attempting character assassination by proxy the Citizen should have examined the issues rather more carefully, a fact that has been underlined by the recent abduction of Sen. Loren, in Cemiess. There would seem to be obvious potential for some investigation of possible links between that abduction and the more recent attempt on the life of Senator Patreus. Not to mention the fact that Cemiess happens to be the home of the Princess Imperial, who may be expected to have similar views on the possibilities of peaceful contact with an alien species as the Empress. It is well known, after all, that Lady Loren is anxious to see peace with a new species and it seems likely, therefore, that she was attempting to communicate new information to the Imperial throne. Why did the Citizen not examine these questions? It would be unfortunate indeed if this august journal has been subject to nefarious pressure from some interested party. We cannot afford to allow the Imperial Citizen to become little more than a gossip exchange of the kind used in Federal space to keep the population occupied with trivia and mis-information. If the Citizen is indeed under malign influence then its staff owe it to themselves and the Empire to speak out and expose the source of such pressure. The future of humanity may depend on it. Meanwhile, concerned citizens might do worse than spend some time searching Cemiess in the hope of picking up the trail of Lady Loren's abductors, cold though it may be. The Citizen should at the very least condemn the abduction and urge all those able to join the hunt.
