Hard missions ?

Hi

Im still semi new to the game, only played in 2.1! I got a question :D

Do there come a point where the missions get really hard? when i say hard i mean, so hard i cant solo them and need to wing up! or atleast have a cutter/corvette
Bcos so far the worst ive seen is some FDL/FGS type ships in the assassination missions.

Or when doing salvage mission there will drop in a wing of 3 smaller ships.

Should i move to another system to get harder missions ? or is this it?

look for one of those "skimmer massacre" base assault missions at a high-sec base.
In addition to the skimmers and base defenses, they usually have a few cops circling the base. Dogfighting in low orbit is a much different experience. ;)

What is your ship config?

What do you mean 'only played in 2.1' ? As opposed to what?
Texy

To any previous version of course! :)

used to fly an FDL full multi, but i got my corvette a few days ago :) so atm im flying that

bi weave shield with thermal res enchant grade 5
5x shield boosters @ grade5 all resist enchant thingy.
couple of SCB and 2 heat sinks + some point def.
weap 2x huge mutli grade 5 overcharged and the rest is burst laser turrets with grade 3 overcharged

I still feel clueless in many aspects of the game :(

I would counter-question:

Does there come a point where your skills decrease the more you play? Let's just think on this for a while and I'll tell a little story...

I use to regularly play an RTS game where you built your bases, scavenged resources and built an army to defend yourself and destroy your enemies.
Then there came a point where I had played so much I could win a match against some of the best human players and as many AI's as could be crammed into a map using nothing more than 2 construction units. No armies, nothing more than 2 constructors. My skills and knowledge had reached the pinnacle and I was lauded as one of the best of all time.

To this day, I can still defeat any number of AI at the highest difficulty or any human player I have had the chance to play using this same method. My skills have not diminished.

I highly suspect Elite to be the same, at least in principle - the longer you play the greater your skills will become, until you reach the point where you can overcome any mission challenge using any ship at your disposal, so long as it meets the mission requirements.

In short though, I'm going to say "no" - Missions do not become so hard your only option is to wing up, if you are of sufficient skill nor will yous skills degrade over time, unless it is just plain time away from ED.
But certain types OF missions can certainly be easier with a wing or at least someone to hide behind when the big guns start firing.

I would certainly welcome seeing more complex missions however, but I will address that in a different topic.

Hmm...

What's your combat rank? - NPC's who interdict you are usually in ships about your size & around your rank.

When you get to Elite - the NPC's also are Elite and use engineer mods. If all you've done is trading (only played in 2.1 & got a Corvette) NPC's will get harder.

In which case you have skipped hard missions already. Only thing to do now is sell all that guff, grab yourself a Cobra MKIII, kit it out with some C and D rated modules and pick up a dangerous assassination mission. Or you could reset your save and try to achieve the same doing mostly combat missions, that's pretty challenging.

50% master atm, but i doubt that will change the missions? only when i random get interdicted?

If you're at Master and are in an engineered ship, the NPC's will be kinda Meh...

It's only at Deadly (not sure) and Elite NPC's that have engineered weapons, and the AI is a bit smarter. Whatever you meet on a mission will meet the combat rank of that mission.

I think that if you're Elite in more than just combat, the NPC's may have better NPC mods, but I haven't heard that confirmed yet.
