Have we forgotten our sense of direction to this game? Have we forgotten it's supposed to be DANGEROUS?

Why do people keep saying this, I played the original version on the Spectrum and Electron, I played it for the trading, I'm having a hard time remembering it was really that 'dangerous'

The thing I do remember being dangerous compared to this version was the docking.

Ever run a hold full of narcotics through the less savory parts of space? Sure gets dangerous then.

IMHO :

There's a fine line between Dangerous and Stupid.

Unfortunately, ELITE has crossed the line in several areas.
There's dangers and risks in the Game that make sense - and there's plenty that don't.

Bugs, shortcomings, lack of common sense, loopholes, cheats and Design Decisions(tm) have led ELITE to where it is today.
You be the judge where exactly that is...

There seems a lot of people on these boards that played or 'remember' certain aspects of the original game. If that was the case, you have to wonder..

Implayed all the previous games to death in multiple versions. There was a much stronger and simpler link between government and security so it was easy enough to balance risk and reward. Running narcotics into an anarchy system was way different to hauling food into a Corporate.

That worked well but I'm not finding the current system too onorous. If I stack missions that warn me of opposition I cannot complain about getting interdictions.

Less happy about them just appearing out of thin air and rising from the dead but it has forced me to learn how to adapt.
