Update 2.2: So much light, but also some shadow!

I am hoping that there will be some sort of mission generation at the capital ships dock. It could be a great opportunity to increase rank.

Anybody posting a reason about "more power because smaller FSD" should really pop on over to Coriolis.io and try "breaking" the game with D rated FSD on their favourite griefers ship.

I tried experimenting on this argument with an FDL, and changing A to D rated FSD resulted in 1m/s more speed and boost - oooo wow FDev you have broken the game! NOT!!

What I'm saying is, its only downside is breaking immersion. Other than that, all the reasons against it are misconceptions too. No one will be negatively affected by instant ship transfers for a fee.
I actually disagree with this point. Combat ships like the corvette and fdl have been balanced in the game by their jump range. That was by FD's design. That balancing mechanism is invalidated by instant ship transfer. I see this as a down side. This is a different down side from being immersion breaking.

Very well put. This is indeed a downside. Combat ships have designed with a small FSD for a reason.

Ditto!
Printing, I have to admit, is an unfortunate way of putting it. I agree with the mechanic since they obviously are going to balance the fighters as pure glass cannons which will die A LOT in combat so having the option to fire a few before returning to restock will be a godsend for gameplay without interruption. However, I believe if they said 'auto-assembled from a compact storage' instead of straight up 3D printed (I believe Adam just blurted that out thinking it would sound cool to teens), we would be having a different conversation, possibly praising the decision up and down. Words are powerful and developers ought to choose them wisely.

I want to hear the Devs walk this statement back and actually say that 3D printing ships is not a thing in the Elite universe. It makes them sound really, really, dumb and it kind of kills any faith I have in them to develop the game and grow its fiction in the future. Sadly we already saw "3D Printing" come up as an answer to instant ship transfers by one of the devs again, so I really do think at least some of them are clueless about how idiotic this is. To add insult to injury the "3D Printing" as solution to instant ship transfer is wrongheaded on multiple levels, since to the best of my knowledge FTL data transfer across the galaxy is not a thing in the Elite lore (hence courier ships), and also 3D printing a ship wouldn't be instantaneous anyway.

If you want to just have a gamey mechanic in the game which doesn't jibe with the underlying logic of the game world, by all means do so. It *is* a game, after all. But please don't undermine the logic of the gameworld further but shoehorning in a convoluted and implausible "explanation" for something which we would have happily accepted as a concession to game design anyway.

It worked fine for materials and now "data" being requiring no cargo space and maintained after ship destruction. It's going to work fine for the "crew lounge" being simultaneously everywhere and nowhere all at once, and it would have worked fine for ship-launched fighters and even for instant ship transfer.

Just say it: Ship-launched fighters have "extra lives." The end.

Two points on that:
1) Balancing combat ships with extremely short jump ranges was dumb to begin with. Oh, you like action-packed space combat, and want to specialize in it? I hope you like jumping from system to system too, then, because you're gonna be doing loads of that. Balancing a ship by just making it inconvenient is not a good idea.

2) ship transfer doesn't eliminate this point of balance for Vijay ships; it simply changes it from a strictly time-based drawback, to a financial cost + slightly-less-time based one.

When you guys talk about NPC crew does it mean that the bridge of big ships like the Anaconda will no longer be empty and staffed with NPCs event though they don't do anything functionally?

Now that instant ship transfer is out of the way, I have no problem with 2.2. Granted, this is not my favourite expansion ever, the fighter launching is really not that big for me, but it seems OK as a part of season 2. Still no big mistake from FD this season (as PP or CQC in season 1).

Everything is OK as far as I'm concerned.

CQC is great! Actually, I think it's the best update of Season 1! (Off-topic, I knoe, but I feel CQC is very underappreciated and need to defend it when I see the chance! ;))

I enjoy CQC a lot, but I won't consider it great until they implement it into the main game as a career choice. I want to travel around the bubble to CQC events, earn my way into tournaments, compete for fame and glory, and be immortalized in Galnet as a CQC superstar (or more accurately, become cannon fodder for those who can actually fly a ship). :p

Great ideas! In addition, I'd like to see highlights of actual CQC matches on the floating screens in and around stations that currently show ads from ship manufacturers and CQC stars as VIP passengers! :)

Well, if the GamesCom presentation is anything to go by, we won't be seeing the seats of our ships bridgs filled just yet.

It looks like rather you are going to hire your crewmembers at a "Crew lounge" of a station and then they remain invisible and you only select them to control your fighters via NeuroLink, but don't actually see their faces, it would appear.

These videos might clarify a little bit how that is going to work:

I think CQC needs to be populated with NPC (regular pilots and champions) to be properly tied to the galaxy. Not just for players Vs players.

Maybe, but I'd restrict NPC pilots to something like training matches. I think currently they can't replace a good human CQC pilot sufficiently.
