So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

How common is it to get a USS about 8500-9000 ly from Sol? I'm in this Rift area (I guess) cruising towards a terrestrial ammonia world when the signal popped up. I lost it a few seconds later. Never did find it. So I said 'meh' and moved on. I'm not really following the thread/lore and hunting clues or anything, just working my way to the outer arm. If anyone is interested I can check my notes, pretty sure I wrote it down.

So it is salome who was captured and charged with the attempted assassination.

Either we have to wait a month for some sort of rift payoff, or maybe find some way to rescue her.

Indeed.

However, I fully expect her to make use of another moment in the limelight to talk to a wider audience.

Question will be: will it be with an incendiary tone (call for action!), or will it be more subdued?

Knowing how this entire thing is a supposedly imperial/federation/Galnet coverup with the mind erasing and everything, I doubt the imps will allow her to say something, let alone let any intrepid Clark Kents to post a galnet article for all to see.

So I know that everyone thinks this is a bug that I'm getting, and in some cases I believe so as well. It is odd, though, that it varies - some systems don't have it, some do but very limited, and yet others get some very active occurrences. The first one check out that strange flashing at about 2 or 3 seconds in. Second one isn't consistently the same results each time.

Interesting, I'd say it's a bug.
What did the system maps look like? could you access them?
Have you bookmarked those systems? Maybe use Mk I Eyeball parallax method to locate those planets and see if anything weird happens.

System maps are normal. Something strange was that 2 systems that showed in Galmap that had solid nav lines to them, I couldn't auto-plot to. I was only 4 jumps away from the last star before those two that I could use the GalMap to auto-plot. The last star/solar system is the one above that has the "bug." So, that's why it's odd.

I don't think it points to anything, if it is intended to be this way, since a lot of the NavPanel anomalies are experienced in a large area (from my current location on one edge of my mapped systems it's 250LY 35deg "up" to the other one below its 350LY 85deg "down" from my location on the opposite side of my recorded systems) so it might just be a Rift anomaly. Or, again only if this is intended, maybe around the area is where the entrance for further discoveries would be. Of course, I'm still working this out and trying to figure out if bug or if intended. Do not want ANYONE wasting time on this, especially since there have been CMDRs here before so they certainly would have witnessed some of it.

Just so strange that it only happens in some star systems, and there is no common ground I've found yet, and it happens repeatedly in the same systems.

Oh, and yeah - I've bookmarked all systems the varying effects have occurred... and I can't bookmark anymore so I am taking screenshots. There is apparently a limit to bookmarks. I am absolutely willing to share, but since someone already came to a few I posted and found nothing like what I see I am sure I'm chasing a bug but then I get that seed of doubt sometimes like this instance where I can't route to two systems that have solid nav lines to them, and I had the fuel, was only a few jumps away, and the last star produced that behavior in my nav panel.

So, yeah, at a loss here and constantly think about going back to the Bubble and going bounty hunting since at least that I can figure out how to do. :)

The galaxy map has an annoying habit of not letting you plot routes tbat it hS got "spider's webbed when in sparsely populated (by stars) space.

Z...

I was sufficiently curious about it that I took a 5,000LY diversion to check it out.
Didn't see anything weird with my Nav Panel.

I really apologize if/when this turns out to be something isolated to my system. It would have been nice to have the bug report result in "It's a bug/SLI/card overclock problem" after I specifically responded to the thread asking. Here's the topic: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/285744-Locations-in-Nav-Panel-anomaly

I also didn't notice it until after I passed through one system and then I went back to check but I saw it in a few more as I "went back" but the problem is - I'm not sure which system I first saw it in. I know the first time I saw it - I was like "that's odd, probably a bug" and jumped a few systems and then saw the mention of the "blue stars" being of interest in this thread and it clicked then so I tried to retrace my steps but not sure I went the right way. I had never seen this before in any jumps until then, but I'm not sure when it first started - because it could have just been a few blinks beforehand - but it isn't something I had witnessed before.

Nah, don't apologize - the fact that it is localized to a few star systems really makes it look like it could be something deliberate, rather than just weird behavior. I felt it was far more believable (in story/lore terms) than the disappearing nebula thing. I was rather disappointed when I didn't see anything - although I did only check one system.

I also would suggest that anyone else within a few thousand light years swings by and checks it out for themselves - it always comes back to "it depends on who goes looking".

Salome's in danger, we're no closer to unlocking this mystery and winter is coming!

We need to do something. How do you stage a jail break in a game where there aren't any actual jails?

I'm not personally a fan of Kahina Loren but, as someone who was once a member of CoR, I don't want to see the Lady get railroaded which is what seems to be happening here. We still have the transcript from her abduction and she was genuinely shocked when her ship was attacked. If she had been involved in the assassination attempt against Patreus then she would have been expecting the authorities that take action. She was surprised and in my mind that means she's not guilty.

As a Federation citizen I don't have a lot invested and CoR may still hold a grudge against me for breaking away and trying to create the Earth Expeditionary Fleet but if there is anything that CMDR Finn McMillan can do to help, I'm ready to bring friends who'd be glad to stick one in Patreus' eye.

I thought someone form CoR posted in this thread that they intended to take action & asked for us to wait until notified, but I've seen nothing else. Not sure what you can do unless you have a permit to Atreus' system which is probably where she's being held. However as a (former?) Senator I would expect her to be transported to Achenar for an official trial, perhaps action might be taken around there. I expect there to be an announcement that she will be transported on a specific date to give an opportunity for interdiction to happen. Game mechanics will be interesting to watch since she's a "special npc".

Salome didn't try to assassinate Patreus though. That was Emperor's Dawn. Or Maybe Patreus set the whole thing up to blame her. Anyway. Salome is just being sent to GuanAchenar Bay to silence her, cos she knows too much. That much is self evident, you don't need to have read a million articles and books to see that much. I'm a conspiracy theorist, but even I'm not falling for that. Sadly though, it's a BIG galaxy, if you want someone to disappear, you can do it quite easily. Salome may never be "found". All we can do is reveal the truth, show the galaxy what she knows, then there will be no point them keeping her anymore.

So yeah, that's the key to releasing Salome. Also, easier said than done.

Conversely you could engineer a situation in which an execution or damage of her memory/personality would create a series of events that would turn her into a martyr for an even more undesirable situation.

~Officer "Sir, it seems the pilots federation have gathered and taken an issue to Kahina's trial"
~Admiral "Ha. We have the entire might defence force gathered. How many are there?"
~Officer "All of them I believe, Sir"
~Admiral "...Oh."

On another note, The old lady seemed like she had flown out there to die and was likely taking the associated risks before finding out something worthwhile enough to come back. So the type of commander to find "it" would also have to take such risks?

I'll probably get some stuff sorted before heading out there.

there has been discussion about shedding your "seven veils". That makes sense in this context. Strip your ship down to the minimum, no shields, no weapons, no cargo etc etc to get maximum jump range. (although such things become irrelevant with Engineers, which weren't in the game at release)

Shorts, t-shirt and underpants I'm out of stuff to shed. Actually when I'm exploring its just underpants.
