Elite / Frontier PC compiant Elite Frontier?

Been playing X2 & X3 and awesome as the graphics are, I do still miss that amazing old game Elite! I miss the maps most especially, incredible! They defy anything X games have ever had!!!!!!!!

Is there a PC friendly version out there?

I would suggest downloading GLFrontier.

It's free, and though the sounds aren't quite the same as the original, the graphics are slightly updated. I'd been playing Frontier again on my Amiga Emulator, and it was slow and unrealiable. GLFrontier is super-smooth, (almost too fast sometimes), and I've never had any problems with it.

I think it's F11 to go between window and full-screen, and CTRL-E to change between the display modes. Can even have wireframe!!

Trying out FFE might be worthwhile too, just make sure to download either JJFFE or GLFFE replacement executable as well, as the original version doesn't run on modern machines.

That's interesting. I never get more than about 10 fps on my machine, which is a modern one and runs glffe at top speed. Probably an issue with the graphics card drivers or something

That is a bit weird really. My laptop's a couple of years old, (AMD 4000+, Radeon XPRESS 200 GFX), and GLFrontier is as slick as .... well, a slick thing.

I've just d/l it and it's great to have Elite II back on my screen!

Isn't there a way to get the full planetary gfx (such as atmospheres) in the GL one? Also, is it possible to get a joystick/gamepad to work with the game?

I still can't stand the combat though. I want something more like X-Wing with Elite IV (or the option, anyway)!
