Newcomer / Intro New player question

So I've started playing this game, and wow is it a pain in the butt...
Very unforgiving.. but i'm trying to fight through ..burning 60$ isn't my ideal way of spending money..

I started taking missions on Solo mode..
So I get a mission that's located 2 jumps away...
First jump works fine..then second jump ship doesn't react when it say throttle up..
I throttle up nothing happens ,until some warning about heat up and my ship is on fire..[woah]

What I tried is exit to main menu, then re-enter the game..
This works perfectly... however I rather uninstall this game if this is the way i'm suppose to play..[down]

Is there some way to fix this,or am i doing something wrong or its just a bug currently with this build?

Thanks in advance..

hey,

what you describe is not a known bug, so i guess you are doing "something wrong" (learning curve is steep).

did you do the trainingsmissions for interstellar travel? they explain quite well, how supercrise and hyperjumps work.

what you describe can have several reasons:

- mainstar you jumped to was in the way of your next jumptarget. you need to allign your ship to the next jumptarget with no other body in between.

- you crashed into the first star, and engaged supercruise instead of highwake. you will need to use the escape vector to get back to supercruise...

... and probably a dozen other things.

the first 20 hours elite dangerous are full of "why? what happened? i have no idea..." - at least they were like that for me. but first do all the non-combat trainingsmissions!

Hi,
Yeah as above this game throws you in the deep end and says "cheerio, good luck" :p

Ok, so you come out of your first jump facing the star right?
Did you fly straight into it by any chance, thats a bad idea, generally you want to turn away and fly into empty space for 4-5 seconds at full throttle so you are not being affected by the stars heat. Then turn and find your next target before charging the FSD.

Are you pointing towards your next system target (aligned correctly)?

Strange, it sounds a bit like you are getting too close to the star and dragged out of cruise.

Try it again but once the countdown for the first jump starts don't touch your throttle, when you come out of the first jump swerve away from the star straight away so you are pointing outside the yellow exclusion ring, only then using your compass find and align with your next jump without pointing inside the exclusion ring, wait till the heat figure on the left of your scanner drops below 40% now press your jump key.

Does this happen if you jump somewhere else?

I will point out that missions in Elite should not be thought of as the path you take to get to the end of the game and win a trophy. There is no end and no defined path. There are some aspects of Elite that require you to do missions, but in general to earn credits or ratings avoid them.

Yes I guess I was doing something wrong as It mostly works for me now..if this occurs again I simply reenter the map deselect the target then re select it again.
And no i'm not on the right path I just bought a better FSD drive so not so many jumps and hence don't face this problem so much now ;p

P.S.
And it took the forum moderators 3 days!!!! To post my thread.. so I kinda forgot about it by then, until I saw it was up with reply today finally!

Another quick pointer too, if you plan your route with the "Fastest" flag on the galaxy map, then add cargo, you will most probably find then when pressing jump to the next system, you'll get a message about the jump being further away than x tons or can take you, or something like that.

If that happens, just open the Galaxy Map again and it will auto-matically re-route you via systems within your new Laden range (each extra ton of cargo equals less jump range)
