Ships Quietly impressed with the ugly duckling

It's not the prettiest ship in the galaxy, let's be honest and it is incredibly lacking in agility. But since buying it on Thursday and fully kitting it out for some decent trading, I've made over 14 mil credits in 4 days and have escaped/avoided interdiction several times.

I'm impressed. I'm sure there are bigger, better and much more fancy ships around but until I have those sorts of millions or billions it will serve its purpose.

Cool. Can you post your kit via Coriolis? I would be interested in how you set it up, as I am thinking about getting one in the future.

Update with engineers and take missions in Sothis/Ceos, and you will get from 30/40 mill in two-three hours

Definitely considering a run to Sothis/Ceos to give myself a bit of a head-start!

Sure, it's purely outfitted to carry cargo, without thinking too much of maximising jump range or anything. I'm also torn between giving it an element of self-defence and being capable of fending off attacks whilst waiting to jump out of interdiction (hence the defensive/offensive confusion going on!). I've tried it out for a few days and yet to come anywhere near being blown to pieces when fully laden! I'm sure more experienced players will have some good suggestions though.. I'm thinking of adding in a better fuel tank and swapping out one of the cargo racks for a slightly reduced cargo, allowing me to have to dock less on long runs.

I adore the coffin, and I've spent more time in her than any other ship. I'm still trying to find decent paying trade misions, but I admit I've avoided Sothis/Ceos so fa. IS it still even viable?

Personally, I D rated everything except my Distributor and FSD. I also chose a 4A Fuel Scoop, but your mention of a tank makes me think it would be a better fit, after all freighters should be jumping through systems, not grazing stars and hanging about waiting to be interdicted.

I've also survived all the interdictions thus far (knock on wood), even a few determined but hapless CMDR's.

I originally fitted mines, but since NPC's can avoid them now, I fly without offense, why limit the jump range?

I wouldn't mind some feedback on my baby:

Your build looks really workable. I would suggest swapping out your docking computer with an advanced discovery scanner. This way you wont be wasting that sweet exploration money. IMO the T7 should have the cargo capacity of the Python, maybe even more. I think FDev was afraid of making it too useful for the money. I would still be in one if it could hold as much as my Python. Kinda feels like us space truckers are getting forgotten, lol!

Having spent a couple of months exploring, I jumped back in it last night and getting used to the position of the cockpit again took a while but I'm up for making some decent money over the next few weeks.

That in mind, I may take your advice and swap out the docking computer. I can't lie though, the ease of having it there while I go to make a cup of tea or use the toilet would be missed!

I agree, I should replace that DC with an Adv. Scanner, but the truth is I'm far too lazy :D
When I fit out any sort of passenger hauler though I always make sure discovery stuff goes on it.

I also just want to add a new loadout link, I realised I posted a fit that was obsolete. ED really gave us Type 7 owners a nice surprise with the 2.2 patch [heart]

Ummm... Since 2.2 T7 has more cargo capacity of the Python. Old internet advice, look before you rant ;).

Another thing that I only noticed since I switched to Python week or so back and instantly almost collided to mail-slot and took couple of bumbs on first planetary landing; T7 has the most efficient lateral thrusters of any ship on the game. That's right, T7 has the highest Yaw rating of them all (not even an Eagle can do doughnuts as fast as the Bus).

I haven't tested, but it is just possible, that it could mean that T7 is the best planetary lander on game, capable of landing on highest G planets. If someone has tested this, let me know.

I won't be back in the bubble for a few weeks most likely, but whenever I get back the T7's the ship I'm going to buy and upgrade. I mean, I bought a skin pack for it and everything, so I feel like I have to now...

Never flown one, but it's always been one of my favourite designs in the game (ditto the T9). I wouldn't call it an ugly duckling, either - it just depends on stylistic preferences. Personally, I think most of the Imperial ships look like flying Apple products... and so something like the utilitarian space-truck T7 is perfect. The tweak came just in time, and I'm looking forward to flying it. A lack of a fighter bay is a shame, though, but you can't have everything.

The other day I finally bought a Type-7 in order to deliver 200 gold to that one engineer guy, but then sold it back off immediately afterwards thinking that it was a style of gameplay I wasn't interested in.

But I don't know... it got under my skin and I kept thinking about it the last few days. Last night, I checked out the new Community Goal and it was all the excuse I needed to buy another one! I don't know if I'll ever get crazy with the outfitting and engineering on it - maybe a boosted frameshift drive and thrusters, but there's something nice about flying around with no weapons, no scanners, no fuel scoop and 256 tonnes of cargo.

This is also my first experience using a docking computer and I'm still enjoying the Blue Danube. :D

Holy you're right. They buffed the T7's internal slots pretty massively. It's actually a viable miner now too. Though, still a flying coffin.

Man, new players are so spoiled. lol "back in my day, my 200T maxed out T7 would die for a full load of Palladium - in the snow - while flying up hill both ways"
