So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

You haven't been to the other side of the galaxy if you think NMS is more boring than ED is anywhere outside of a populated system.

It just doesn't do it for me. To be fair, I'm not digging this exploration thing either. I want to shoot stuff, at least periodically. In NMS, it seems like I just fly around, finding things and trying to find a ship big enough to hold all the crap I need to have.

Just a refresher for people sifting through astronomical and mythological associations:

I've got a five flight ahead of me so I'm thinking about the mysteries again.
... will expand this with some information similar to this on Angkor Wat

Utopian Enforcer - Morning Star : Finally on approach to Sag A after partying in the outter band of Beagle Point for way too long. On my way back towards the bubble and the rift. No sign of Rift clues or Raxxla out here. Tons of life but nothing advanced enough to the widespread use of electricity.

Been out in the black for a few months now. Must say that the rift on the other side of the galaxy's outter arm is way more annoying than the one known as the Formadine rift.

Because she doesn't know!
She's had access to far more information than she's ever shared publicly and all she's managed to achieve is to get herself disappeared (twice).
Quite frankly, she's bloody useless.

+1 (can't rep you so have a cookie on me)

Personally I couldn't care less about what happens to Salomé (as long as there is a good story behind it). Plus [rp] Certainly not enough to commit the acts of terrorism against loyal Empire's citizens. And I would encourage any pilots loyal to the Empire to actively oppose this radical branch of the so called children of Raxxala wherever and whenever they decide their agenda is more important than innocent lives. [/rp]

My personal opinion and roleplaying aside, imho Salomé's story is in storytelling mode right now, designed to flesh out Empire's background politics. I would be very surprise if there was a way to interact with it right now, we just have to wait when current story arch, or at least episode ends to be able to do something again.

From beta changelog.

- Added Persephone (Planet Nine), Haumea, Makemake, Eris, Orcus, 2002 MS4, Salacia, Quaoar, 2007 OR10 and Sedna to Sol

? Am I missing something about its importance?

The hypothetical Planet nine has not yet been given a name in RL, but FD has chosen the name Persephone (have been used in other Scifi). This may or may not be linked to Persephone's potential significance in the rift mystery.

oh persephone... her story is really crazy....

zeus, hades and demeter are siblings. zeus and demeter fall in love, she gives birth to persephone. later hades falls in love with persephone and simply kidnaps her. her mother is so furious that zeus let it happen that she simply stops all plants from growing. zeus has to intervene and an agreement is reached: one half of the year persephone lives with her mother (=summer), the other half with hades (=winter). later a bunch of humans tried to save persephone but failed. only one escaped hades and that was theseus.

tldr crazy greek incest story.

Greek mythology in five words:

"And then Zeus got horny"

Agreed on this too - the great and good don't give a damn about anything other than their own ambitions, never have, never will. The questions are really about how we might manage to influence what happens, whether that's even possible... ALD is hardly going to throw up her hands and say "sorry, not-really-sister, you can have the throne now", so it's a matter of trying to work out what game each is playing and how we can put spanners in their works :)

Phoenix Group:

The following is a theory developed in conjunction with @Matzov

It is reasonable to assume that the reference to 'Phoenix Group' in the recent Kahina Galnet post is significant.
The player group with that name appears to be defunct and, as far as can be ascertained, was never an official Player Minor Faction, so it is likely that FDev were unaware of its existence when they chose the name.

Phoenixes are associated with rebirth and/or eternal life - a common theme in the Rift mystery, which Matzov has tied to the Salome/Kahina dichotomy, to Octavia and her body-swapping activities, and to terraformed worlds.

The constellation Phoenicis is named for the phoenix and so the link Phoenicis Constellation == Phoenix Group does not seem an unreasonable connection to make.

Following this theory, we have identified Delta Phoenicis as a system containing two terraformed worlds, and both Gamma and Mu Phoenicis systems contain water worlds which are currently being terraformed. This may or may not be significant, but we shall be conducting detailed investigations of these, and other Phoenicis systems.

Most interestingly (at least for me) is the system Beta Phoenicis. This system should (according to Wiki) be located around 195 LY from Sol. However, entering the name into the Galaxy map search results in the map tracking to 8,300 : ~ -25,600 : 3,750 then reverting to 8,320 : -10,985 : 3,750. -10,985 appears to be the 'bottom' of the galaxy map, since it's impossible to scroll 'down' from there.
Whilst this is most likely a bug, it has the potential to have some significance to the Rift mystery (a bug report has been submitted).

And, perhaps, some a little easier to find... (after the beta anyway!)

Cheers,

Drew.

Hopefully this isn't direct reference to the rift mystery. It would be extremely poor form if it was somehow solved in Beta before the rest of the community could participate.

Touche sir.

I meant to imply that players will be able to benefit from certain 'enhancements' after the beta v2.2 is concluded. No advantages given to beta players.

Cheers,

Drew.
