Serious discussion on proper fleet mechanics

I don't own SWG. How about giving us a readers digest version of what you are thinking about.

Don't bother directing me to some SWG Wiki for info, that doesn't tell me what you are thinking we should have in ED. Besides they are quite often poor and out dated info...

Good luck! I do believe that every page of this thread has at least one person asking him to actually explain his ideas.
 
Alright gentlemen.
Some of the proposals need more meat on them - mainly (for me) to see if they are possibly game breaking if in the wrong hands.

But the bulk seem (again to me the non-programmer) just ways for player groups to, mainly ID each other and to communicate and organize better.

Does anyone object to the thought - in whatever form you wish to imagine - that the in-game mechanisms for player groups (the presence of said groups that FD seems to tout highly when convienent for them) could use some serious help?

If there was some in-game structure in place for player groups to be more "organized" and to have some sense of community I would think you would attract more players IMHO.
 
That is my impression but he can correct me.
Fleet management = PG management.
If it doesn't then I don't have a dog in this fight. I was looking for easier and better PG management in-game.
 
Also consider that OP is coming at this with a decidedly obvious bias towards how CCP handled "Fleet" management in EVE Online.

He wants an in-game mail system to be able to send messages to all members of the PG.
He wants an in-game PG chat system so that all members can communicate across space without needing to be winged or resort to direct messages.

I'm cool with a chat channel for the PG but that first means FDev needs to capitulate on the subject of guilds/groups/etc and advance beyond the meager support they've thrown our way already.
 
I have no objection to any of the fine ideas you have broached.

Again I see anything as bringing more player involvement in the game as a good thing for ED as a whole.
 
The only ideas I would object to are ideas that give players absolute control of a system in any way, shape or form.

The only control I view as allowable would be the actual control of the in-game faction players had inserted, not factions that were adopted, and who can fly that faction's flag. IE: Diamond Frogs would only allow DF members to fly the DF flag and so on. Though I'm sure there is a middle ground that could be reached concerning non-group players who want to support the faction and what flag they would be able to fly while doing so.
 
ED groups need a little love. Let's play a game, for every idea we criticize, say another.

For example:
give the oportunity for groups to choose wich system expand the minnor faction

i agree a discussion about fleet mechanics is a must...

we need someone to tinker and fix our ships whilst we are not playing......so whilst at work if i have any damages the mechanic fixes it and bills me.
next log in i see the bill....just like looking at the rebuy screen with different txt obviously....but yeah OP i totally agree in response to the topic.

Sorry for the lateness of the post but I have been very busy this morning. I know all of my forum fans are waiting with baited breath to criticize my suggestions.

But befor I start I would like you all to enjoy just a small part of what a organized fleet can accomplish.

Now allow me to clear somethings up before I start. I use the term "fleets" because we are all spaceship pilots and in my humble opinion when you have more than one ship together working towards a common goal I call that a "fleet" it is really that simple.

That being said I would like to discuss the topic of fleet size missions or group missions what ever you want to call it. Let me start out and say this topic is not just about being a "PFM" as it is a "QOL" issue.
I would like to see minor factions give out missions that would need more than one commander to complete it. Maybe even more than one wing but several wings working in tandem towards multiple goals with multiple locations at the same time.

I won't go into to much detail and leave it open for other commanders to contribute to this topic. But I will say is this. I am not talking about open CG's I am talking about missions given out by the minor factions in a system.

This is a complete non-starter. FD should spend no time/treasure to create group content, that excludes an individual Commander. Anything that can't be tackled by a Wing of four players, like a Threat Level 4 USS, should not be considered. There are any number of features, mechanics, and improvements this game needs. Diverting resources to anything that doesn't directly benefit all of the players is a mistake, and is unlikely to happen.

He wants to know how a Faction ready to expand, can control what system they expand into. The decision on what systems get expanded into is in the hands of the BGS, within a set of rules. Manipulating the area surrounding a Faction ready to expand is the only way I know of to influence where an expansion occurs.
