Hardware & Technical Saitek x55 rhino

Well more importantly in Elite you can actually select the X-55 from the controller menu and it is all pre configured for you!
Even though Frontier wasn't featured on the Saitek site :)

Aside from the fact that in Arena Commander, you currently can't use the X55 properly/without tweaking the game files yourself...

Yeah i read that last night after disappointingly couldn't move the ship using throttle. After reading it i thought i just couldn't be bothered with faffing around with files and console and played Elite instead.

But i found the most frustrating part is that you had to wear the helmet to use the simulator, i wasted 10mins of my time until i searched the SC forums. It just seems rushed without much thought or testing. I know we're.the testers but a bit of polish doesn't hurt to ease people in to their way of thinking.

you only have to download file once and use a console command once, from then on it works (unless u delete ur user folder to clear up other issues then u have to redo), but not had to redo once yet, however yeah the main issue with AC atm is jerky over-sensative controls for joystick users, especially yaw and also lack of strafe controls without swapping modes, once they fix these 2 then the rest are much more minor (for joystick users) for mouse + kbd users they'd be better off looking at the planetside 2 flight controls and make it more keyboard then mouse based, atm the mouse doesnt feel very good and feels a little disconnected, at least to me and quite allot of others, but yeah glad I got an x55 happy with it, its great on elite and will be good on ac once they fix ac.

I'm a big fan of Star Citizen and I have put quite a bit of money behind their project but one thing worries me.

The dog fighting module was supposed to be released in December 2013 but they said they need more time to polish it and get it right. So they took six months.

If what was delivered a few days ago is what is considered their "polished" version...I am a little concerned.

I do hope they deliver a great game however, I really want to play in the universe they are imagining.

Hi have no doubt they will make a good game but I think there is way too much expectation on what the amount of money they've had will be able to deliver. I think Chris Roberts knows this and every time I see him these days he looks like a man looking over his shoulder constantly for a shooter.

When you compare Elite and what we have already in PB with the money invested compared to Star Citizen, that's what gets me worried. The team at Frontier are fantastic, they listen and they deliver and let's be honest, they have over delivered with this so far. I have nothing negative to say about Frontier, not one word.

I have experienced really shady development in the name of Peter Molyneux's latest project and I hope my experience with that is what has made me so patient with Frontier and really appreciate what they have done.

Anyway, this is a Joystick thread and don't want to derail it. I don't think I'm going to invest any time in Star Citizen until they have fixed the controls. I have a 360 pad, but I don't want to use it when I spent £170 on this control scheme that should already be working and can't believe they released a build with bad controller support when it's all about the HOTAS!!!

Yeah no kidding, they release a dog fighting module which is all about dog fighting with terrible controller scheme and almost zero support for joysticks.
It's like releasing a car racing game demo with keyboard and mouse support only

does anyone know how i can test if the slider on the throttle is working correctly? nothing in the windows game controller properties window changes state when moving the slider.

I just tested mine in the profile software under the programming screen as Warbaby suggested and it works. But just out of curiosity what are you planning on assigning it to as I can't think of anything useful?

Only customisation I made to the default controls is assigning controls to the K1 switch which is what your little finger rests on on the throttle. I put supercruise to K1 Down and hyperdrive to K1 Up

You should be able to test it in the X-55 Rhino software

i have a problem with the software at the moment, i can test all the axes, change brightness and the stick+throttle works flawlessly in games, but in the programming tab, no actions (movement/presses/mouse thingy) are detected and when i assign commands/keypresses to the buttons they are not executed. the taskbar icon is missing too.
i already tried reinstalling the software, doesn't help :( so i would like to test the slider without the profiler if that is possible.
i already raised a ticket with saitek about this.

The throttle slider is the only control that I can't seem to get working on ED. The software shows it's working but it doesn't seem to register when I go to map it in ED.

Be interested to hear if anyone has got this working.

With the screen open, try unplugging and replugging the throttle in to the usb port. There is a bug in the software where you cant see the throttle. Also as suggests earlier in the thread, if you have usb3 make sure you have the latest drivers installed from your chipset or motherboard vendor

stick also won't work. i tried un- and replugging the devices, and also (re)installed the latest usb3 drivers (stick&throttle have always been plugged in to usb3) but it still won't work.
when i installed the software the first time it worked well for 2 days or so, yesterday i noticed this problem the first time.

I ordered an X55 the other day, it said delivery would be around 3 days. Then the next day they changed the (preliminary) delivery date to 2-3 July! That's like a month away. Alright, I will just keep drooling over this stick on screenshots until then! :D

Just wanted to share my excitement!
