Just got killed, lost everything. No money.

Anybody got any ideas?

If I can't do anything, I can't play, can I? I'm glad so many people seem to be very successful at this game. I have no idea how they do it. They must literally devote their lives to playing. This game is needlessly cheap with money, difficult and confusing to play, and has major problems, in my opinion. It takes an hour to make 500 credits, which is worth next to nothing. Then, with goods in your cargo hold, some jerk destroys you, and you lose eveything. No money, no way to advance. Total .

Beta testing means you can play, and try things out. All I do is fly around and then some imbecile nails me. 150 bucks to be completely irritated. What a bargain.

If you are having trouble with combat try trading. Even with the starter ship and money it is easy to make around 2000 cr an hour just by flying between 2 stations.

Combat is an even easier way to make money but requires some risk.

clear your save game from the menu and you will have your starter ship and the 1000 credits you started with.
As for making monies go to the low intensity areas and practice killing npcs and you will gain 500 credits-ish per kill and make monies pretty quickly, buy a second pulse laser when you have around 2500 creds and the bounty kills will come even quicker and so will the pennies.

Sorry. Just frustrated. Thanks for responses. I had no idea you could clear save, and get your credits back. Again, thanks for replying. I thought all of this was permanent.

start from scatch

buy cotton from eranin go to ibootis

then take fish back.

as you get more money, buy tea/coffee at eranin and take farm machinery back from ibootis.

when you can buy a couple of gimballed lasers.

then you are ready for the asteroid area in LP98-32

scan AI ships looking for ones who are wanted....... (dont play with anacondas unless there are a few of you, its not worth it money wise - though can be fun!!!

when ambushing a wanted AI, put all power to guns and take 1 at a time out. Every now and then, if you get more than 2 AI ships red on your screen, run away.

here you can practice scooping (also the game autosaves after a scoop) make sure you save after every 3 or 4 kills either by scooping or going into super cruise for a second incase of crashes.

always scan human ships. dont engage them however, most will leave you alone. make a note of any players who attack you 1st and then if you scan for players and you spot one either leave and go for another instance, or get them before they get you.

once your ship is damaged or your cargo hold full, fly back to freeport (the station at the pirate world) and sell your loot on the black market and repair.

Hence the reason your playing Beta, so that all the problems can be ironed out first, that way when people start to play the final release they know that with YOUR help they wont be anywhere near as frustrated as you are.. :)

I have been playing on line since Beta started I lost count how many Sidewinders I have lost.

Today is the first day I managed to scoop something up...the amount of kills I have managed 5...ouch!!! and thats only after I had my last sidewinder with 35% hull needing repairs desperately and no CASH...actually 25 credits was all I had ...

Only frustrating thing I find now is that so many of the NCP pilots are managing to escape with just 1% hull, they vanish without me getting those all important kill credits...."Dawn Radiant!! is the worst one for that every time he interdicts me .... LOL but I am having a blast.....

You've just learnt a valuable lesson which will put you miles ahead of all the 'noobs' on General release day...

Rule 1: Don't Fly what you can't afford to loose!
(Shamelessly stolen from Eve)

Keep at it commander,
Fly Safe!

There are likely to be several wipes ahead where all progress will be lost. There could even be a final one during Gamma if it should be required but they are hoping to avoid this.

The whole point of Elite is that you start with next to nothing. A battered old Sidewinder with a crappy Laser and 100credits.

You then have to go out and make something of yourself in any way you choose.

There will be many options available in the released game, not just the bounty hunting and trading we have here. There will be contracts and missions, mining, trading, exploring... all sorts.

Plus with many more systems there will be thousands more trade routes, so they wont all get overworked.

I've realized that trading isnt the way to go at the start (for me). I'm going to throw my noob-ship into the fighting to get those 500c bounties, which will soon add up. If I die in a glorious fireball.... free Sidewinder please, thank you!

Chin Up Commander,
Fly safe!

Yeah that damn pirate interdicted me at least 4 times in 1 trip, and every time I almost got him and he vanished.
Figured it was just a bug, and now that I remember it I will have to report this in case it is a bug.

Don't get attached to your progress. Main thing is...

One of the things I found out the hard way, Frontier isn't finished coding ship trading. I bought an Eagle just to have a look see. Traded it back in for the Sidewinder and didn't get credit back for the difference! 42,000 lost, gone, dissapeared, vanished.

Some games you start and you're like 'jeez this is rubbish!' but as you force yourself to play it you notice how better stuff(tm) completely changes the experience. Faster, more damage, better handling, more guns etc. Then you twigg how brave it is of the game designers to make the default so puny, no doubt knowing that a lot of short attention span people will quit and say its rubbish, completely ignorant of the intended 'sense of progress' they've engineered in.

The ones who do stick it out and appreciate this will love it all the more. Those are the loyal customers who spend and spend and buy all your games henceforth. They are worth 50 casual Steam Sale opportunists with big mouths. :D

EVE is just one game like this .. I can think of a few more. So glad ED is too.

In this beta build your only two ways of earning credits is combat and trading and, to be perfectly fair, trading really isn't suited to a 4-space ship.

If you want to "test" trading then certainly trade in a sidewinder or eagle, but if you want to earn credits then the only real viable (read: quick) way of doing it is combat right now.

At the very least, you will need to do enough combat to start trading in the high-value things like gold - and for that you're going to need between 10,000-40,000 credits.

For the record, you get between 400-600 credits per-kill in the Eranin combat areas, so getting your first 10k can be done in under 30 minutes.

In the final product, there will be plenty of other things you can do to earn money in the small-hold ships to get yourself into something more trade-worthy that won't require combat, transporting passengers, for example, which will be missions from various stations in-game.

Federal combat bond is how I got started.

Kill enough for a pair of gimballed pulse lasers.

Once you have them you can clear ¢20k an hour easy in FCB.

Go Eranin side, the fed fighters are weaker.

I've noticed though after a while I start to only get 400CR a ship.

Posts like these actually shows that they are doing things right!

Space is supposed to be hard and cruel.
You will probably have to work together with others to make it.
Being a beginner in a starter vessel is probably going to be really hard if you dont team up with other beginners to try and gain some ground and build up.

Thats the essence of a sandbox/free game. This is not a structured experience where you play through a story and defeat the bad guy in the end. Other players are the bad guys, but they can also be allies.

Also, there is a real Risk/Reward presence in the game when other people can just show up an blow up your ship.

This is how you make a big multiplayer game.

One could argue that its a bit hard to test the late game stuff, but it atleast shows that they are designing the game the right way.

Oh and dont even complain about the 150 bucks. Thats all on yourself. If you are ready to drop that kind of cash on an unfinished game, then you just have to stick with what you get.
