Newcomer / Intro cannot land on Cleve Hub

Hi there,

Fairly new to the game, I've run the exercises, but when I need to land on cleve hub for my first mission, i'm stuck.

When I get close to cleve hub, I cannot see it in my contact list, so I cannot request docking.
(further more cleve hub is constantly on the move so is't difficult to maintain position)

Guns are down, sensors are ok.

Distance from Cleve's Hub ranges from far away to less than 50km.... but no cleve hub in contact list.

Can anyone help me with this ??

Are you sure you're dropping out of Supercruise properly?

The only thing I can think of is that you haven't got it selected as a target destination and are attempting to manually drop by "eyeballing" the distance.

If that's the case, use the System Map or Navigation Panel (on the left), select Cleve Hub and ensure it is the target. Then fly directly towards it keeping your throttle in the blue sweet spot. Eventually, as you get closer (usually within 1mill Mm) and your speed gets lower (also usually below 1mill Mm) a blue pop up should appear saying "Safe Disengage Ready". It is at THAT point you press your drop out button and you should appear between 20-10Km away.

Also note that it will be on Contacts but you cannot request docking until you get within 7.5Km away.

Hmm, I think I dropped out of "J" (is that supercruise ??) too early...
I came to the system and pulled back the throttle and in "normal" flight tried to get close to Cleve Hub.
When I come close enough I do get the blue "safe disengage ready" sign...

One question, wich is the "drop out button" ??

The end of this official training video shows how to safely disengage before docking:

Did you complete the Travel training mission?

You'll need to be within about 15km for it to show up in your contacts, and within 7.5km to be able to request docking.

The video explains the 3 modes of travel (normal space flight, supercruise, hyperspace). 'J' is the toggle Frame Shift Drive button which has a different effect depending on various criteria:

  • If you are in normal space flight and have no target selected then J will engage supercruise (also known as low-wake).
  • If you are in normal space flight and have a target system selected J will engage hyperspace (high-wake).
  • If you are in supercruise and have a target system selected J will engage hyperspace (high-wake).
  • If you are in supercruise and have a local target/POI selected (e.g. starport, asteroid belt, outpost) then when you get close enough to your target (i.e. distance & speed in the bottom-left of your main HUD is in the blue zone) you will get a 'SAFE DISENGAGE READY' message, so pressing J will drop you into normal space flight and around 10km from the target.

Maybe confusing at first but will make sense in the long-run.

You don't want to be in range of the planet it orbits, you need to be in range of the station. It's best you watch the video Mr Boombastic has provided and then try out the "Travel Tutorial" in game.

I can't say what button it is to drop out or engage as I'm on Xbox, so best rely on Mr Boombastics help for that as he seems to know.

snip has a different effect depending on various criteria:

  • If you are in normal space flight and have no target selected then J will engage supercruise (also known as low-wake).

snip
Short version is if you are facing a targeted system and have that system selected as a target destination, then pressing "J" will engage Hypercruise to that System (assuming it is within your jump range).

Otherwise it will simply toggle between Supercruise and Normal Flight.

There is one thing I found out yesterday ....
When you are in opposite direction on a landing platform, but you are in correct position, you cannot dock.
Solution, lift your ship a tiny bit and turn (yaw) it 180 degrees and lower it. This should do the job ...
(at least it dit the job with me a couple of times...)

Thanx for the help...

You can easily tell by the ship's landing hologram facing the wrong way.
Also - yawing takes forever. Try pitching up to upside down and then rolling into position. ;)
