Horizons Planetary navigation is making me hangry.

I'm not Captain Cook. I'm not even Casey Ryeback.

Please Frontier, just add a nav comm option for planetary landings when you already know the coordinates so those of us who who JUST DONT GET IT (?@!!#*%!!) can find things (which they had to Google to get the coordinates for!)

i mean, it's a frakkin alien space ship with an imperial Capitol ship above it. How hard should it be!!!!

Agree mightily gentlemen.
I am in a darn space ship in the 33rd century capable of jumping hundreds of light years.

I have a set of coordinates and I have to swan and circle and fly about trying to get them in front of me like a blind man hitting a piñata?

According to the beta 4 patch notes they already have

Really? Might wait until then!

Came within a "align wth escape vector" of rage quitting.

First time ever. Might go and rob someone. Make me feel better. Oh wait, I forgot to buy limpets when I swapped to the Asp.

Nnnggghhhh!!!!

Never been so happy to see an Imperial Warship give me a ten second warning. Testament to my never say day attitude. Oh and FYI Mr Majestic class, this isnt the first hi sec Imperial site Ive snuck into. Isnt that right Aisling?

And big love to the SRV too. Thats some rough country if you approach from downwind.

There really does need to be a QOL NAV Computer. An extra tab or just a simple area in the existing NAV area on the left hand console.

Input the desired Lat/Lon in two fields and it'd place a heading carrot on the compass and if you were above surface cruse it'd place a marker on the surface as we have now when a base is selected as Nav target.

This should also be available onboard the SRV. If you could target a spot while entering OC you could narrow just about in on it. I personally would be going after more "TIPS" missions. As it is now, it's arduous at best given the speed at which we're allowed to slide around on the surface.

Until FD puts this in - I use this to at least point me in the correct direction. ED Bearing Calc

That's a useful tool.

Just to prove I'm a complete idiot, how do you then work out your bearing?

I never really found it all that hard to look at the coordinates, move a little to see which way they're moving, and orient myself accordingly without having to resort to calculating anything.
If I'm at X,Y,Z and need to get to -X,Y,Z I just look if X goes up or down or if Y goes up or down, and reorient myself until the numbers move in the direction I need to move.

My only real complaint with being planet side is the "fish-finder" on the SRV. It can be hard to hear some times, and even harder to follow.

Here Hear good sir.

A compass in Orbital cruise and/or an ability to set a waypoint on the surface of a body would be exceptionally handy if we're expected to find unmarked surface sites by lat and lon.

Or even a plethora of piñatas.

:)

The "watch the Lat/Lon and see if you counting up or down on each and then head in that direction will work and what I've been doing until I found that Ed Bearing Calc page. Because its outside the ED app it has no way of knowing where you're at. So you input your current Lat/Lon and then input where you want to be and after some comical waiting, you'll get a popup saying your bearing is 43` - you head off on a bearing of 43` and you eventually end up exactly where you want to be. There is no, "ok, I'm at the Lat .. so now I have to go due east .. NO NO, due west to get the Lon I need ...

An Nav computer in the app would A) already know where you were (ship or SRV) and B) be able to place a " ^ " direction carrot on the compass at the top of the HUD. Or, if you're still above OC altitude you'd see a circle for your target as we currently do when a surface base was targeted.

So, now how do we get FD's attention on this and get them to weigh in? Do we need a poll? Cuz there're polls for just about everything else. I'd rather for a DEV who might be reading this to say, yea, we've been talking about this or, it's a good idea and we think we can do it on 2.2 release (or 2.3)

I could even toss a few PIC of implementation ideas just to salt the creative juices of the DEV team. Come on FD, whatta say?
