Goodbye Grandpa...

At 2:30 AM (EST) today, my grandfather passed into the black; taken by Stage 4 Lung Cancer. I've just gotten back home from visiting grandma and spending the majority of the day with her and family, and am emotionally and physically exhausted. So much so, that I feel that even being at the helm won't comfort me. [sad] I've come here not for sympathy, nor even recognition, just to make a small request to Frontier; a plea rather.

My grandfather was by far one of the greatest men I've had the pleasure of knowing. He was an avid fisherman, a great family man, having raised five children, and had an absolute heart of gold. As an avid fisher, he always had to find himself near a body of water constantly and he had always said he wanted to die near the water, and well, he got his wish. For the last fifteen years, he and my grandmother have lived a block away from the water's edge of a lake, and every other day he'd be down on the water trying to catch something. I mean, this man LOVED to fish, and help to instill that love into my mother, who then passed it down to me. He also LOVED coffee. A pot and then some everyday. Again, that love trickled down and found it's way to me and now I bear the torch of a pot and more of coffee a day.

The request I have, is to form a CG in memoriam to him. His name is Walter, and there happens to be a large starport in the Gyvatices system named Walter Dock, which just so happens to have fish and coffee in the market. I could not think of a more befitting way to remember him than to deliver or buy coffee and fish at that station. Please Frontier; I know it's a lot to ask, especially at this time with 2.2 coming out soon, but I humbly ask if you could do this. It would mean the world to me, because right now, I miss him. [cry]

Sincerely,

A very sad W4LD0

I hope you get this the right way:
I very rarely manage to cry sadly and laugh heartily at the same time; as a matter of fact I can not remember if I ever have. Before.

I very strongly second this request! And I will bring my best ship and work from dusk till dawn in this CG!

My Deepest Condolences and Best Regards.

Screw waiting for a CG.

PEOPLE LET'S GET HAULING!

heck, why not!

Excuse me for being insensitive, but since the man had no real impact on anything sci-fi related, I don't see why this should be a thing.
That was not very tactful. Or helpful.

It would be very easy to make up a back story like Walter the founder of Walter Fish&Coffee Chain or franchise establishing a trade link to or from this system in honor of the founders last request of expanding the business to let a larger part of the bubble enjoy Walter Fish&Coffee 's excellent fish and coffee.

Come on.

Thank you so much guys, that means more than words can describe.

You're not excused. Any other day I'd be OK with this sort of thing, but NOT today. In all of the star systems and all of the stations in Elite, there just so happens to be one with my grandfather's name on it. Include the word "Dock" in the name, which just so happens to be a lakeside normality and something which someone can fish upon; and on top of that, the station has fish and coffee, two of the biggest impacts my grandfather had in my life, so it all fits perfectly! It might not seem like a whole lot to you, given it's not your family; but it means a whole galaxy to me.

Guys. Make sure to post one week from today the total number of Fish and Coffee hauled in tonnage. How much of it was sold. How much was donated. Total profits of each and both overall to include mission rewards and profits from bulk trading.

Oh. And Man hours of how long you spent hauling.

Daily reports wouldn't hurt ether to keep this topic alive.

Let's set some records!

HELL! LET'S BREAK SOME RECORDS!

I feel your loss, WLD40.

I am reminded of the famous children's story "Draw me a star" by Eric Carle, where the artist begins as a child drawing a star that requests a sun that goes on to request a moon and so forth, until eventually he has drawn mankind and the world and the heavens all around. Throughout the pages the boy ages and ages until finally, inevitably, he is an old man whose work is complete...and his last task is to draw another star, and in the final water color painting has taken hold of the star he's just finished painting and rides it across the sky into the heavens above.

If Fdev honors your wishes I'll definitely contribute.

Always a sad time, condolences commander.

While this is an unrelated event, I don't have an issue with it, however it should still conform to elite rules and setting.

Maybe one of the more lore familiar or better writers around here could assist you with writing a proper cg application, as even if they agree. You have to make it fit into the elite-verse.

Good luck

I understand you are offended, but it is silly to expect development time to be spent on your personal loss, and you were asking for a CG in the OP. You said it yourself: this loss of yours doesn't mean anything to me, so why are you wanting to change the game because of it? It doesn't make any sense. Spock dying made sense to rename a station, given his impact on sci-fi as a whole.

A community run event is a much better idea, and doesn't require FDev to actually spend any time on it.

Sigh...it's not often that I wish there were a "minus rep" button Odan my friend, but you've managed twice in one thread.
