What to expect of 2.2

I am interested to see your expectations of 2.2 and/or your expierences with 2.2 beta in regards to an immersive VR!

I personally have had a "bad" experience because of decreased performance (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/290195-Performance-issues) but on the other hand have seen several people mentioning their experience was improved with 2.2, but often it wasnt clear if those were VR or regular (non-VR) players.

I'd like to have some feedback from you the VR community in special! Please go ahead!

The earlier beta's has always suffered a performance hit contrary to live, but the experience in current beta and live is hardly different from eachother and they have in my experience done a lot of polish and optimising between final beta and release.

In short I'm not worried about performance, but aside from ED oculus is releasing ASW meaning the rift almost get the same experience with 45 fps as 90 before, almost.

This in turn leaves the vive even further in the dust and valve and co, really need to pull a rabbit out of the proverbial hat.

For me Beta 6 was an improvement in VR, haven't tried Beta 7 yet. The planet details are superb and are looking much better in general and more immersive.

Also looking forward to when I can use ASW on my AMD card which should make the experience even better.

In beta 7 still getting fairly bad stutter for around 15 seconds after exiting SC. Sometimes brief mild stuttering when entering SC. The other day I came out of hyperspace and thought the game had frozen, but it was just the longest hitch I've ever seen. That's a one-off though and could have been my PC. But my experience is the same whether 2D or VR (oddly I think I notice the stutter less in VR probably because of ATW and perhaps because I have a large monitor).

I see the recently released AMD drivers have ASW for the RX400 cards only. I pray to god they will add it to older series cards. Waiting very patiently.

I have enjoyed the beta pretty amazing features. The planets and stations look pretty amazing and I am not experiencing lock ups and some of the other items people are talking about in fact I think the performance is better than it is in standard Horizons.

Same here. I have a Fury card which admittedly is very nice and pretty powerful, but would still be nice to crank up the details with ASW.

My experience with the betas has been very positive from a performance standpoint. I'm playing in the Rift with an i7 4770k 3.5Ghz, 32GB Ram, SSD and GTX 1080 so a pretty beefy setup. It definitely has felt better/smoother in beta than in 2.1 production.

Wasn't there also a recalibration of "VR High" and "VR Medium" - so what was Medium before is now High? Seems like a reaction to the new Oculus run-time being more efficient. The prolbme may be this doesn't scale with SteamVR if you set it back to "VR Medium" if you were using Medium before, since now "Medium" is more demanding, having the similar settings to what use to be "High."

Thanks for all of your feedback! I was trying the beta 7 again today to enjoy all the new features added recently in VR!

I really enjoyed the white dwarfs and even on VR medium (default values on SS and HMD quality) I got a very decent experience on planets and RES sites without bad hickups or frame losses (reprojection kicked in at some time in the RES site but I can live with that), so it "should" run fine one would think. The biggest issue that really turns me down still are the freezes when coming out of SC (esp. noticeable on stations) that pop in after some seconds and last for around 10-20 seconds and then suddenly vanish. And yeah, you can spot the frame drop also in 2D but it doesnt scale as bad as in VR (in VR its not happening in 2.1) and sadly hasn't changed since 7 betas. Otherwise the beta looks great, and at least there is also an half baked SS/pixel density "fix" that works around fiddling with configs / 3rd party tools for the Vive.

I am really hoping for a perf polished release! Please!
Thanks for your replies, comrades!
