I hate making posts like these, but anyway :p

There are a large number of superb tools made by the community to aid us in our chosen career path(s).

What tools do you use on a regular basis, and how much of a difference does it make to your QoL? Or are you a hardened veteran (or not) who prefers to go it alone with just a notepad for company?

And what tools don't yet exist that you think should be?

Personally, I don't use anything - on account of being too lazy to set anything up! And I would be very interested in a Commander's Log that took data from your game log and allowed you to tailor it - all in game of course.

If I understand you I use any and all tools available like INARA and EDDB.

If you don't use them that's fine - blaze your own trail - but I don't get the folks who consider these a "cheat."
It's the 34th century after all.

I better jump in here before the wrong idea is gleaned from my post - it's 100% innocent, no ulterior motive or hidden agenda - and I absolutely am not inferring cheating :D

Now, back to our regularly scheduled broadcast :)

No worries Cmdr!
When I said "you" I didn't mean you in particular just some members of the community as a whole. Don't know how numerous they are or how many use them.

I use Inara.cz (as seen in my sig), EDDB and EDSM online sites. Installed on my PC I use EDMC (so that can provide market information rapidly) and EDDiscovery for submitting data to EDSM when exploring. With the updated journal coming in 2.2, I have started to plan out an app of my own to cover passenger game play.

I don't really get those that call this "cheating" - they're just tools to do the job.

I don't use them, never saw a need for it. With one expection and that is when I have to take a look at some engineer blueprints, dunno why we can only look at all of them that a engineer has at his base. And dunno why I always forgett to pin one when I'm there :D

I use a corsair keyboard now and have a bunch of macros setup:

* a group for general stuff, e.g. set off the fsd charge and honk at the same time
* a group for power managment in various combos
* a weapon/more combaty one that is still be finalised

Also I use Roccat PowerGrid on an old nexus tablet. This has things like turn head tracking on or off, open the sys/gal maps and a an autodock button so i can get in the 7.5k range hit that and combined with a docking computer it docks me. Then i have another button to pull me into the hanger and open system services. This used to trigger EDMC but thats done auto now.

Outside of game I use Corrolis (and the new community supported version), eddb and edsm. I also keep my fleet in Inara and commander details (mostly) upto date.

External programs used are EDFX, EDDiscovery to pump stuff to edsm and a local log and EDMC.

Most macro based keyboards for power management - makes like much simpler
Use inara & eddb for general info / commodities hunting

Used to use coriolis a load but not for a while now

EDMC
EDSM
EDDiscovery
Coriolis
Inara
Thrudd
Roccat Power Grid
Dabbled with trade computers but waiting for a 2.2 enabled one that ties into the online trade databases with a game overlay. Any ideas?

Inara for engineers
Coriolis for ship config
Thrudds and EDDB for trade
Opentrack and Freetrack for headtracking
Voiceattack for voice control
A couple sites with spreadsheets to organize with my group

I look forward to being able to log data on some external site when cmdr log goes live. I expect Inara would be able to provide this (million thanks to the webmasters)

Elite Trade Net! Forgot about that one.
Now if I could only decipher the darn thing.

Perhaps if I use a big screen instead of my little phone all the time it would make more sense.

Inara
EDDB
Coriolis

...and that is about it.

I am in the process of making a small (Android) app to help out when gathering material and such for the Engineers. Basically stores multiple blueprints and provide all the info you need. More here:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/296600-ED-Engineers-App

Estimated public beta in early November - release a few weeks after that. Windows version will follow. Actually, the internal Alphas (open to Contrail members) are Windows only, so it is not much of a stretch :p

ED-IBE - good extension - set to my visited stations only - I send data to EDDN - but only keep my data - so just the same as jotting it down - more efficient - so yes I can see profits - but only from stations I have been to, also it is only live when I visit - so a few days later - oopps!!! not profit - market changed - big loss - yes it happens!

Inara.cz to track my fleet, commander progress and for the signiature.
Eddb when I need commodities for Engineers
Coriolis for playing around with my various builds
Eddiscovery to pump my discovery data to EDSM. Not so much for my personal tracking, mainly to kinda contribute a little to the community with information on systems noone has been to before.
Excel Spreadsheet off the Forums for Engineers that I can enter my Materials and Data into and I can see which Mods are avaliable to me and which ones need materials I do not have.

Notepad and pencil for some short term notes :D

Addendum:
I'd love to have something that could export the Materials and Data I have so that I can easily keep my spreadsheet up to date

EDDiscovery so I can can see my wobbly line route across the galaxy

Coriolis to try out ship builds, much quicker and easier than in game.

Excel sheets for various miscellaneous stuff

tracer keypad as there aren't enough buttons on my Hotas

Eddb.io for trading

And if fdev see this thread. I honestly tried to figure out ingame trade routes. They are not reliable. Doesn't take into account stock levels.

Edshipyard for outfitting.

Teamspeak/discord for player group communications.

I use a combination of tea leaves and a well tuned kaleidoscope. Great results everytime. \o/

Flimley
