Ships Best non-engineered ship for PVE pew pew

OK, so given a budget of up to ~100M and with an eye on things like rebuy cost, effectiveness and all-around ability, what, in your opinion, would be the best ship for casual NPC pew-pew, in a non-engineered state.

Rebuy should not exceed ~6M when bought on the open market. (non-discounted.)

Preferably link up your chosen design on Coriolis, and give justification for the use of any unusual loadouts.

Builds should ideally allow for the potential of gathering dropped cargo.

You can award the build bonus points for being under-budget / rebuy cost, but points might have to be deducted if the ship is too easily destroyable...

Unfortunately...it's still going to be the FDL ;)

If you want cargo/mat gathering ability then I have good things to say about the iClipper or Python. But the 6 utility slot meta demon wins at just about everything that isn't buckyballing or trading ;)

As Stitch says, it's still an FDL.

I'm by no means any expert at FDL builds, I don't own one and never have, but this seems reasonable enough to me: https://coriolis.io/outfit/fer_de_l...i7i7i0400030404045i45032o00.AwRj4yrI.Aw18aQ==

I'm sure other more experienced FDL pilots will come in and give better builds :)

Why no discounts though? You can buy it all in Li space for 15% cheaper at very little effort to yourself. It brings the build I put down from 88.5M (4.4M rebuy) to 75.2M (3.7M rebuy), you'd be really silly not to take a free & easy 15% discount.

It is not such a big deal with NPC. Sure they'll spam missiles but if you run as soon as your shields drop I've never had a problem in the FAS PvE.

@OP FDL is the obvious choice and the shields make it very tough.

FAS is good if you're going after smaller targets due to its agility.

My FAS build https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/fed...404045i5i0302012f.Iw18cQ==.Aw18cQ==?bn=battle

Just got me to Elite in combat in compromised nav beacons targeting small high rank ships.

L5 dirty drives, L4/5 over charged pulse and multi cannons, weapon focused distributor. Augmented boosters and reinforced shields.

Dirty drives are a must have for the FAS IMO just made it amazingly maneuverable.

Oh I most likely will buy with the discount, but, to give everything a level field it seemed easiest to set the max price without discount.

Although, on reading, that point seems moot, because the FDL wins.

Unlocking Palin is not happening for me right now. That's why I said "non-engineered", because it's likely that my casual pew pew ship is not going to get a lot of investment in terms of upgrades. (Though I don't doubt that it's pretty awesome)

You can unlock Farseer with very little effort though, she has basic Powerplant, Shield Booster, Engine & FSD upgrades for single materials.

With 6 boosters, if you upgrade them all with L1 upgrades (http://inara.cz/galaxy-blueprint/8) you can be pushing 30% per SB, it'll average 30% on top on what you've got (another 1.5 Class A shield boosters!)

I just used her G1 powerplant upgrade on my Anaconda, went from 33MW up to around 38MW for 1 Sulpher, ridiculous.

Sorry I didn't notice the non engineered bit. It is still good stock for taking on smaller ships.

I would get some level 1 mods on there as they are easy. Also you can spam level 1 mods to get to level 3 and then trade that for a level 1 special e.g. corrosive and incendiary multi cannons are a great combo. For 15 very common mats you can get a level 1 weapon upgrade with the special of your choice.

I'd be a bit careful about weapon mods.

Low level weapon mods often feature high jitter, which can make them nigh on unusable.

If you want the experimental effect, use one that doesn't feature jitter and have the mod there just for the effect.

Defensive mods are go go go though. Can invest minimal time/resources into defensive boosts and only come out better.

FAS/FDL ... fast ships.

if you are looking for something even cheaper, a non-engineered HRP-cobra mkIII and a non-engineered DBS are performing great ... i use those on my secondary non-horizons account for CZ.

fast ships.

I think "fast" is a bit of an overstatement for the FAS ;)

I can't rep anyone any more because it says I have to "spread it about a bit" first, but thanks for all the contributions.

I should explain : I will likely get around (at some point) to engineering all the things. It does bring new life to old dogs, and, indeed, I (in a begrudging fashion because I dislike smuggling from an RP perspective) unlocked the Dweller just recently. It's just that, for right now, I'll likely be flying the "casual old pew pew ship" without mods, because I have only limited time to put in to the game just now, and I want to spend it doing pew pew or other things and not necessarily finding materials or commodities. :) Hence wanting to know which ship kicks the best ... in unmodded form.

FDL is extremely powerful, has strong shields, agility... Depending on your combat abilities there won't be many NPCs that you cannot destroy with ease.

If you wanted something cheaper, but still decidedly powerful against NPCs, you cannot go wrong with a Vulture. Only downside to a Vulture is the lack of power, but a simple G1 engineered PP will solve those issues.

Which is better in a dogfight: A-rated Clipper or A-rated Vulture?

I would say the Vulture.

The Clipper (which I love to fly and fight with) has very good pitch which is essential in turning fights but it is a large target, vulnerable to chaff spam and has weak thrusters.

The Vulture has great pitch and thrusters, has equal or stronger shields depending on build, is a smaller target so you benefit more from using chaff yourself and can use fixed weapons. However it is slower and can be mass locked more than the Clipper, meaning you can't get away fast. It is a lot cheaper as well. It deals a little less damage than the Clipper.

Here is my Vulture build:

https://coriolis.io/outfit/vulture/...23327252f.Iw19kA==.MwBj4iCZyA==?bn=PVE combat

The scanner is for assassination missions. You are way below optimal mass, so maneuverability is great, even unmodded. Keep an eye on your shields though, no cells. Use chaff and thrusters to avoid fire and start running early enought to let your shields recharge.

Yep. For pve the FAS is excellent with no need of engineering.

Only problem is reputation with Feds, if you don't have that it's a bit of a pain to get even the first 5 ranks these days.

The best ship for the budget is still the FDL, though if we're ignoring ranks my personal choice would be an all turret FGS with 2.2 coming :)

Yeah, I forgot about rank. I'm now trying to get a little rank with the Empire (for stupid engineer content blocker) and have made no noticeable progress. Sure, FDL is a mean ship but frankly I'd rather just get a vulture in that case as it can jump a little farther.

The Vulture always annoyed me. It is a capable ship, but as soon as you make the slightest mistake and it takes fire it seems the canopy pops open. I lost a few of them in succession some months back and then decided to sack it off. Never went back. One might argue that I shouldn't have been taking on wings of powerful ships, but that's a different debate ... ;)
