Anyone use a large TV as monitor?

Hi Cmdr's hope you're well.

I recently brought a 50" Samsung UHD 4k tv and am using it as my monitor as I did with my old tv.

I only currently have a 780ti so I know I can't play in 4k and expect 60fps.
So I need some advice on the resolutions and settings you use in game please.

I did try it in 4k and it ran fine at 60fps until I got near a planet/moon or station at which point it turned into a stutter show lol!
And at 1920×1080 it looks real blurry, so what would you say is a good middle ground until I upgrade my gpu?

I use a 40" 4K@60 Ilyama monitor with an AMD R9 290x, the only issues I get is the transition from Orbital Cruise but I think many players see this. You need to turn off Anti Aliasing and turn down Ambient Occlusion pretty much most other things you can max out.

Would setting Windows resolution to 1080 work to avoid this and the scaling blur?

At 1080p and no scaling you will have no blur, but you'll have borders all around the image. What is the the native resolution of your TV? I'd start by using the full horizontal resolution and decrease details.

Turn down AA and Shadows. Set your tv and gpu to the same resolution.
Tv's are great for this game cos of the deep black.

As far as I'm aware, 1080 shouldn't induce borders as it scales directly from 4k UHD @ 2:1. Only obscure non-integer scaling, to 1440p for example. However, this is all testable in fairly short order.

With scaling deactivated there is no scaling. You'll have borders.

I tried a 40" UHD LG with an r9 290x.
It was very pretty, though the TV does not have DP, thus it was only doing 30 Hz, but if i remember right that was quite steady at ultra.
I think I will do that again when I go exploring again.

Either 4k, or 1080. Don't use a resolution that does not divide nicely into 4k.

I use a 55" 1080P TV @ 60Hz, my GTX 970 handles it reasonably well, but a 1080(Ti?) is on the cards...

I would if I could figure out how to get my HOTAS, Track IR and keyboard in front of the television while leaving my computer where it is, in the other room. I've already got my pc wired via a long, sub-floor HDMI cable.

Hey thanks for all the reply's folks! So can i turn off scaling in game? Or do i need to mess with the windows resolution stuff? The desktop is running at 4k but i obviously had to increase the text size (zoom 150%).
The TV has a 120hz refresh rate, and i've noticed that i have to choose the resolution settings that are 60hz in game, otherwise its not full screen and chugs at 25-30 fps.

I'll have another play around with the settings in game now i have more time and let you know.

Cheers all.

You should be able to chain USB hubs; that will deal with the signal attenuation on long cables, although it might introduce a bit of input lag.

You might also want to look into a thin client (perhaps a cheap Android device might do) to convert your inputs to UDP packets and send them to the host PC over the LAN. Opentrack accepts input this way, and USB/IP might work for the joystick.
