Anyone use a large TV as monitor?

Hey thanks for all the reply's folks! So can i turn off scaling in game? Or do i need to mess with the windows resolution stuff? The desktop is running at 4k but i obviously had to increase the text size (zoom 150%).
The TV has a 120hz refresh rate, and i've noticed that i have to choose the resolution settings that are 60hz in game, otherwise its not full screen and chugs at 25-30 fps.

I'll have another play around with the settings in game now i have more time and let you know.

Cheers all.

One more thing- make sure your tv is in pixel:pixel mode. Depends on what tv you use, but you don't want any overscan or underscan.

I use a Samsung 40" 4K TV and it is awesome!

It can only display 30 Hz, but that doesn't matter.

I have setting to Ultra, but set Supersample to 0.65X and AA to OFF. My graphics card is an AMD R290 (2 Gb VRAM) *NOT* the R290X! I don't have any problems with it, and see 50+ FPS most of the time.

Be sure to set the TV to "PC" mode, and use HDMI 1 in UHC color mode!!

Thanks for the tips, I did a quick test last night out of Obsidian Orbital in 4k @ 60hz, High ingame settings, with vsync on, AA off, shadows medium.
I got 45-55 fps in the station, 60 outside, and 50-55 on the nearest planet surface.

@Mercury7 ill try putting it in PC mode too thanks.
It is connected by HDMI btw.

@Zeeman I don't see a pixie pixel mode on tv though lol!

Edit: This is the tv I have: http://www.s21.com/samsung-ue50ku6000.htm

Hi Cmdr's hope you're well.

I recently brought a 50" Samsung UHD 4k tv and am using it as my monitor as I did with my old tv.

I only currently have a 780ti so I know I can't play in 4k and expect 60fps.
So I need some advice on the resolutions and settings you use in game please.

I did try it in 4k and it ran fine at 60fps until I got near a planet/moon or station at which point it turned into a stutter show lol!
And at 1920×1080 it looks real blurry, so what would you say is a good middle ground until I upgrade my gpu?

Make sure you turn down supersampling in the graphics/quality menu from any setting you may have to 1.0 or even .65 as you already have 4K and it is there really I think to simulate 4k on a 1080 monitor which you do not need and it is a real memory hog in and around stations and planets.
I use a 4k monitor and a 980TI gfx card, and even that gets choppy if I ramp it up to 2. So I keep it at 1.0 but with your 780TI card I think you need to back it right off, as the card is a bit of a bottleneck for you.

What is important is to connect to HDMI 1 on the TV! It is a special port. You can then set the HDMI 1 port mode to PC, and then set UHC colorspace (chroma 4:4:4) in the HDMI settings.

Mine is the UE40JU6445.

it has many names (different by brand), I'll try and figure out what LG call it.

Using a 47" Sharp Aquos FullHD...1 meter or so from it more or less while playing with a Hotas. Game maxed out and yup...it looks and plays amazingly and I'm loosing vision too but who cares. xD

Between 80/90FPS in planets and stations and between 130/150FPS in open space.

If you are playing at 4K, don't go crazy with Anti-Aliasing (actually turn it off and let FXAA alone) and shadows (try it in medium) which is what makes the frames go down.

Hey thanks very much for all the tips and help everyone! I repped you all!
I can confirm I'm now enjoying 2.2 in 4k locked at 60fps thanks to you all!

I honestly didn't think it would be possible with a 780ti.

ED never looked so good!

You should be able to chain USB hubs; that will deal with the signal attenuation on long cables, although it might introduce a bit of input lag.

You might also want to look into a thin client (perhaps a cheap Android device might do) to convert your inputs to UDP packets and send them to the host PC over the LAN. Opentrack accepts input this way, and USB/IP might work for the joystick.

Interesting. Thanks for the idea! I'll look into it when I'm less sleep deprived. 50 inches of Samsung hotness with Elite is worth a little investigation. :)

I play occasionally on my 40in Toshiba I have had for years, I have a media PC hooked up (i7 3770/GTX970SC/8gb Ram/Win10) it runs ED fantastic in full HD and also I have my Oculus DK2 hooked up to the PC with HDMI & USB extension cables so I can sit on the Sofa and play in VR :)

My main PC is running a AMD8350/16gb/GTX980ti/Triple Screens/Hotas setup. Even with the 980ti I have to reduce the shadows/AA to get steady frames on planets, space/stations/etc is all fine it's just planets that's very demanding.

I'm looking at getting a 4k TV soon to replace the old Toshiba, probably upgrade my Media PC at the same time as it's a few years old now!

The solution is very simple, set your windows / graphics card resolution to 1920x1080 and video will come up crips and clear on your TV, I do this with a 50 inch LG.

And yes on TV turn off every single post procesing effect, or it will be very floaty

Also of note

I have tried and tested AO (ambient Occlusion) many times in this game (even started a thread about it)

And from what I can tell it offers very very little in way of looks (as in so subtle I can't even see anything) and steals a good chunk of GPU ( I lose about 10-15 FPS with a 960 )

Yeah always use the tv's resolution

Doesn't it add realistic lighting effects or something?
I always turn off Bloom, i hate that effect.
