talking my wife through the update.

Hi

I have ED installed, it is through steam, BUT i have a shortcut to the launcher on my desktop.

she gets home before me, so, if i was to tell her to log into my pc, will it just be a case of clicking on the elite launcher and selecting upgrade OR is a new launcher needed.

also, if she does this, is steam likley to cause issues by also trying to update it in the background, or ultimately do all upgrades work through the ED launcher?

sorry if its a daft question but ideally would be nice to get this installed before i get home.

I just opened E:D from the launcher shortcut on my desktop, and the game is currently updating via a steam download box. Hopefully your wife encounters this ease of updating.

Edit: As with my other steam games, steam has to start before the game will start. If this is the case for you, I doubt you will have any problems as steam knows the game needs an update.

when i am not sitting there with VR goggles stuck to my face, i am sitting in the lounge with VR mask marks on my face. not sure which is worse ;)

sadly with tin pot internet i need to get the patch kicked off asap.

My wife commented the other day "I'd love to know just how much time you've spent playing that game. I bet it tells you doesn't it?". I quickly changed the subject...

Don't bother with the launcher, just tell your wife to log into the PC. If Steam starts automatically - the default behaviour - it will update the game automatically - again, the default behaviour.

Valve's CDN is much faster than the E:D launcher behaviour, and it's practically guaranteed to be ready and waiting for you when you get home (if you don't have a bad connection, of course.)

Tried talking to my wife about the update. She offered a dead-pan look and said: "Honey, its like shoes: you never listen to me when I'm talking to you about them."

Point taken..

Download and burn a recent Ubuntu install disk and you can boot it from your CD or DVD or USB drive. No installation required and you can do whatever you want subject to firewall restrictions.

If you prefer Windows, you can run an XP desktop from CD / DVD / USB on any Hirens disk. Or use TeamViewer.

I just let steam handle everything. Just got home early and launched steam, it takes care of the rest -> 73% done, started 20mins ago.

That's what I'd tell her to do rather than rely on the launcher....
