Ship Transfer Costs - These Prices are Nutty!

I dunno, i feel like prices are too low.

- we don't know whether we will be able to net 10 millions per hour in this update (haven't been to Ceos/Sothis yet)

Just 10 millions per hour? Call me spoiled but i wouldn't do anything for such a low pay - unless i wanted to do something regardless of money.

Seems reasonable- make sure any transfers are profitable is my advice.
For the sake of one jump it's more like a fine for your own bad planning, and well deserved.

With the utmost respect, i don't get this view one bit. If you're running around a bunch of systems around a home base doing missions and trading, and you come across combat zone/mining ops and want to transfer your ship stored one or two systems away so you can easily partake in it...but it costs an arm and a leg how is that bad planning? This is exactly the type of opportunity that this feature should be used for, no?

Also, I deliberately chose my home base (Fong W*ng) because of its proximity to Shinrarta and because it was Federation (because i'm a Fed guy and because i wanted to rank up). Good planning, i thought.

Transfering an Anaconda costs much more than transfering a Cobra. Hmmm. That must mean that flying the Anaconda either requires a bigger crew, or that it has a much smaller jump range, yeah? No? But it takes exactly the same amount of time. Oh, strike that then. I have no idea what's going on.
Who'd a thought transferring a larger heavier ship would cost more.

- if i did earn that much (which i don't) I wouldn't particularly want to spend it on transfer of ships...i'd rather spend it on new ships, new modules, engineers etc. so i can go out and explore, fight and trade - you know, have fun. Isn't this what the game should be about?

Then that's what you should do. There's no harm in having lots of ships still but while those ships might be scattered around at the moment 2.1, the change means you can easily 'clump' them together .. to make (strategic) bases around the bubble say? Having the ships follow you around like so many puppies is a bit .. meh, imo .. and a rich man's luxury. Better to have a proper decision to make? Why not let it sit a while? Maybe it's better if it won't fundamentally 'change' the way you play .. but 'influence' it .. ?

Seems reasonable to me. Heck, I earn $80,000 just to deliver DATA between Sothis and Ceos, let alone a whole ship. If we nerf ship transfer cost, then we need to nerf data delivery and other delivery missions.
Do you mean you did earn $80k, or still do - would imagine mission costs are much lower now right ?

I think they accidentally multiplied the cost of ship transfer by 10 in line with ship prices coming out of Beta.

It's got to be a bug. Ridiculous pricing.

And by the way, I was an avid proponent for delay and making it non trivial to move ships.

(a) it won't cost you much?
(b) it won't take long?
and (c) how much money will you make in said combat zone/mining ops?

I made myself an engineered hauler. It's very cheap to transfer, jumps far, cheap to buy. I use it to go get the ship I actually want. Then transfer the hauler back. That's my solution.

Only application I've found for it thus far as well.
Could have been a nice moneysink, but shipping around my turbohauler is both cheap and effective (and the rest of the fleet can cross the bubble in less than half an hour anyway .. all of them .. including the FAS).

Hi

I had read about it on the beta forums, and it's true - these prices are completely nutty.

I'm at Jameson the rest of my ships are at Fong W*ng - one small jump away. To transfer my Python is >250,000CR. That's just crazy!

How did we get here? From instant travel, something we want the masses to engage in so that we can enjoy more gameplay to something that takes a while and costs so much that only the very wealthy will not seriously have to think about using.

I just don't get it!

Thanks.

PS Great job on releasing 2.2 overall

Too much for you? then don't use it, let others use it and you stop whining and move ships the old 'free' way.

I repped you for a considered view here. I wouldn't disagree if the primary purpose of Ships transfer was so you could easily form long term bases....but it's more than that. It's not for transferring your entire fleet (like puppies) every time you move a 100ls. it should be for moving 1 or 2 ships when you want to avail yourself of an opportunity/event etc and to remove some of the drugery around in equiping/maintaining ships. All in service of better and more inclusive gameplay. At least that's my thought.

This was often said about repair costs for ships like Pythons but after you play a while you get the feeling of it scaling? Wouldn't jump to conclusions too hard, the paint stll aint dry on the update? Mine's still downloading!

:D

I don't get why FD are introducing features which by design mean they won't get used very often. They spent all that time to develop features that are awkward to use. Look at the small number and type of ships that can use fighters, and the prohibitive cost of ship transfers. As if having a time sink isn't enough they also add a credit sink to the same feature which is silly and will decrease the use of that feature. I don't understand the logic FD uses sometimes.

Ah - the quick and easy insult. Why are bothering to read the thread if you're completely satisfied and don't want to read people 'whining'?

It's not whining, it's expressing an opinion, and arguing a viewpoint (greater accessibility). Is that wrong?

I don't think this was ever intended to be a feature that was used by most players most of the time. It was a niche thing that would be handy every now any then.
