Type 9 as a Salvage ship?

Can the Type 9 able to perform reasonably as a Salvage ship? Not concerned with credits. Looking at missions etc.

TBH, i wouldnt recommend it- i would use a smaller, more nimble ship (Cobra)- you're not always alone at those salvage sites....[where is it]

A salvage ship should be nimble in supercruise to assist hitting the USS first time! Large ships like conda and t9s suck in supercruise.

I'd recommend a python, dropship or clipper. Depending on required cargo space. Currently I'm really enjoying the dbx and icourier. But you will probably want more cargo space

No. Go with a small nimble ship or a fighter such as the FAS. I like to use the DBS in medium to high security systems or the FAS in low or medium security systems. You will likely have company when salvaging in space, usually 2 to 6 "visitors" so be prepared.

On surface missions they don't tend to be too aggressive but I've been attacked there as well.

For low risk surface missions I use an engineered T6 that hits +400 in boost. I tend to fill her up with high value salvage that I find.

If you take lots of limpet controllers and can tank damage for the time it takes your limpets to collect all the cargo, you should be fine. I recommend 7A resistant/boosted shields and a 6B SCB.

Depends if you want to go with large landing pads which means you will be restricted to, generally, starports and landfall bases.

I try to avoid taking illegal salvage to starport black markets as I don't want to be scanned and pay fines.

My Cobra is the vessel I've purposed for salvage. Smaller cargo capacity I know..........

Sure, as long as you get some collector limpets. A bit of an overkill tough, as Salvage missions normaly have 1-4 Units you need to get. The other stuff in those USS normaly isn't worth picking up as it is low value and illegal, if you do planetery salvage too then it looks a bit diffrent as the commodietes there are legal salvage and it can have some valuable stuff down there - but still, not enough to fill up a T9 at the end of the day.

Things I have found useful with salvage missions:

A nimble ship that can get you into the dock without being scanned is handy, as often the salvage required can be illegal.

A fast ship is useful for getting out of dodge once you have the cargo, and are waiting to jump

Good shields are invaluable. The best method I have found is to drop in, launch a plethora of limpits, then once you have the goods, jump out. The better the shields, the longer you can wait. Bi weaves still rock if you are stacking these missions though, as they recharge between encounters.

Profits may not be your bag, but the inevitable losses from T9 rebuys will seriously dent your mood.

Personally I use a Cobra for approx 90% of the game, anything that isn't combat or large scale hauling related.

Good info. I kitted it out and accepted a data salvage mission and a land mine retrieval mission. I went out and tried to cargo scoop the data canister, (yes I have been playing for years and didn't understand what the hell you all were talking about Collector limpets........) So after 10 minutes of cussing I jumped back to a station and bought the limpets, (and to continue my genius behavior and not understanding that limpets are cargo I maxed out my cargo hold with them!).

So back to orbit with the canister - 10 seconds later I have it in my hold. Off to land on the planet -

I zero in and feel like I'm in the Prometheus as I thruster down to the surface. Land too close to the depo.....(I'm sure many of you will know what that means). Pop out my SRV and drive the opposite direction of the depo.....(because I'm not aware of which direction it launches). Head back and pee a little when 4 drones pop up around the canisters! (I then have to drive around to the other side of them.....because of how close I landed).

Kill the drones and grab the canister/landmine. I drive back towards my T9 and absolutely LOVE the look of it as I drive under it.

Great experience, (even though I know other missions may blow me up!).

I know there are a lot of elite ships that can do salvaging, but most don't have the feel I am looking for. So far the T9 is the best "feel", but if the Python ship kits are any good I will try that. I don't know if having a fighter launched from the T9 would help in Salvage.
