That too, I don't think Frontier intend to put the economic power of what's currently a station into player hands.

In spite of all the usual, and utterly predictable, nonsense, the desire for a hidey hole of one's own is a simple and fundamental fact of human nature. No, I'll correct that: it's a demonstrable fact throughout the entire animal kingdom.

We already have that. It's called Solo mode.

Braben talked about possible player home bases right from the start.
He mentioned some mechanic to build a base in an asteroid.
Of course these were not promises, but it was on his mind from day one of the kickstarter.

I would love to be able to construct some kind of subterranean base on a planet constructed out of essential modules, like:
Living quarters, infirmary, armory, hangar, power, defense, oxygen, water/food etc. etc.

This would be such a cool money and time sink.
And they could sell all kinds of cool vanity stuff for this too.
It would be a cool way to support FD.
I'd be all over this.

Sweet. I've got a dozen empty system to use as Military Staging Areas and Marine Training Grounds.
