Fix the crime system

Breaking in my new Taipan by doing a little RES'ing in my week-old 'Conda today. I see a bunch of security forces lighting up a target. Made the mistake of firing before the scan was finished. One tiny bounty later, I'm out 7 million in rebuy because the idiot cops in this game don't know the difference between a helping hand and an actual crime. Now my 'Conda will be sitting on the pad until I get the payout from the Walter Waldo CG.

Cops need to learn to grant warnings for small offenses like this. They certainly shouldn't murder you over a 400cr fine. Frankly, if they're already fighting a target, they should welcome the help. This kind of nonsense has been a problem for a while, and it's high time FDev fixed it.

Reminds me of the week I spent dodging bounty hunters because I didn't realise that you sometimes have to wait for a pirate to actually begin shooting you before defending yourself, despite them having already done the "your GP or your HP" routine. Although I guess that's realistic in some places.

FD have been adjusting the Friendly Fire mechanic all along. Here is the latest update to the adjustments, from the most current Patch Notes:

- Slight balance pass on the Authority ship friendly fire aggro multiplier, we don't want it to be too high, so it's now the same as the Friendly multiplier. Also made sure that the AccidentalDamage dialog is a bit more common

It's not quite as brutal as it used to be, but I agree with the OP. Last night I tagged a target with a pulse laser and got the 400Cr assault warning. I retract hardpoints and head out of the res site. A Police Conda kills the target I had hit, and I get a 64000Cr bounty for murder. So now I'm, in an FDL worth 139million and I've got two elite police condas and God knows how many vipers after me. This is where grade 5 dirty drives pay off :D Escaped with just enough shield to avoid damage. (G5 Prismatic with 4 0a boosters) = 1,800Mj :O

I usually make it out myself, had done so several times in my old Python. But I was in the Taipan at the time, and it didn't occur to me quickly enough to switch back to my 'Conda and run like hell. Also probably didn't help when the NPC crew started returning fire at the cops.

Try shooting in the general direction of any armed police officer and see if they let you off with a warning.

Your finger is on the trigger and you are responsible for when you squeeze it. In a system where "loitering means death" expect some militancy from law enforcement.

But that's the thing - it's the whole 'every crime is a death penalty' thing that bugs me. I mean, I get needing to clear ships from the access bay, but murdering someone for a stray shot in a game with regenerative energy shields is ridiculous.

thats a bull argument.
IRL you wouldnt kill someone with a bounty on his head.. or help the cops with a shootout..

its a game, so for gameplay reasons it should change.. not because of logic from real life..

So you knew it was a very bad thing to do... but you did it anyway... and now think something needs to be fixed.

I think the element that needs fixing may be between the keyboard and the chair. ;)

They didn't ask for your help, though. In fact, you basically stole their kill.
