Sorry!
I've never really understood the appeal for the big ships. I am assuming that OP is referring to the time it takes to raise up the money to purchase and outfit an Anaconda, Corvette, or Cutter. The biggest ship I've flown, outside of beta, is the Fer De Lance, and I didn't really have that much fun.LOL, well played Commander. Yes, the cry-babies love whining about self inflicted grinding.

You should really be doing what you find to be fun, because if you can't find a fun activity in this game, it will not matter if you are in a big ship. You still won't be having fun, and the grinding would have been for nothing.
Personally I find exploring in a Cobra MK3 to be fun.
I find mining in a Cobra MK4 to be fun.
I find combat in a Imperial Eagle to be fun.
I find trading in a Type 7 to be fun.
I originally did mission running in Cobra MK3, but I am thinking of switching over to a Keelback for ship launched fighters.
Also, I prefer the DBX for exploration, but it needs additional module slots because the DSS and cargo rack have pretty much become essential modules for exploration now.
Out of all of that, the most expensive ship there is the Type 7, but two to three weeks of community goals and other miscellaneous activities would cover the cost and hardly be considered grinding.
Tried that. Coins are not fluid. Might as well have dove into the concrete.

Over 1300 hours played, and I haven't experienced any grind. Or rather- I haven't subjected myself to it.
Yeah, I only have 16mil and a non-engineered, A-rated AspX, but I'm in no rush to get anywhere.
I have enough for a few rebuys, even though I haven't died in a few months.
My current goal is to get to a place where I can buy a few different, non-giant ships and spec them up with money left over for a rainy day.
I do missions, I smuggle..sometimes I pirate, and sometimes I even mine a bit- but never so much that it stops being fun.
Honestly, I'm getting tired of the people screaming GRIND!!1! into the void. It's not a prerequisite. It's not even remotely necessary.
