How do you decide where to sell your exploration data?

I've just gotten to Sagittarius A, and am considering continuing on to Beagle Point. I've been thinking of selling the whole heap of data at the new bubble, then continuing back to the original bubble and selling 25k ly of data to Felicity Farseer to get level 5 rep with her (I'm currently at level 4).

How do you decide where to sell data? I've yet to get my Sol permit: can one get that permit by selling exploration data? I've seen that selling data at certain space stations makes the authority ships quicker to intervene if you get attacked, but are there any other benefits?

Selling exploration data to a faction raises your reputation with them, and can in turn influence the bgs by raising that faction's influence in the system. That being said, you cannot get a Sol permit by selling data because that needs Federal rank, which you can only get by doing missions. You can get some other permits by selling your data, though - those that don't need federal or imperial rank, but rather just require you to get allied with a faction; if you can sell enough data to get allied with a permit issuing faction you will eventually get a mission that offers the permit as a reward. Not sure how much you'd need to sell to Felicity Farseer to get level 5 rep, but you might be able to get away with selling just enough. You don't have to sell all the data to her, and can instead sell the data page by page, checking every so often to see what your level with her has reached. The rest you can sell to the faction you wish to gain favour with.

This is an interesting issue and I spent some time on it as I am nearly at Sag A and will have a ton of data to sell (hard drives are heavy!). I decided I wanted to rank up with Farseer (I think you need around CR7m to hit level 5), and then I want to get a bunch of the permit only systems unlocked (list here: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Permits ).

Looking at them I came up with this journey list:

Deciat
Luytens Star
Hecate
Djaujang
Wonorne Nu
TZ Arietis
Stopover
69 G. Carinae
Alpha Chamaelontis

Amalangkan
Anotchadiae
Theta Sculptoris

I'm not sure how much I need to spend in each system, or indeed if they truly are unlockable, but I think this is more than enough to go on for now.

My other thought is on having another trip to Jaques via all the stopover points on the way that have just been created and getting allied with them all. I like the idea of dropping in and saying hi to friends along the way :)

When beta 2.2 came out, I was about 7kly out and rather than kill myself, I went ahead and flew back to felicity to see how much data I had and getting an fsd update to see how much better jump range I could get. I sold two pages and got from Level 2 to Level 5. Not sure if Beta would be different than Open or not, but hopefully it doesn't take more than that. I think it was about 4mil worth of data, I don't recall exactly.

Good to know if I have a catastrophic accident There might be some repair station around, even though that would effectively end my trip.

they may not have been added just yet colonia minor faction are in an investment state and that may lead to them bulding it there ( with Fdev hand placement)

Are they placed within the live world yet or is it added later ?

Depends what I want when I get back.

The first time, I went and got all the system permits that needed Allied status with the controlling faction. I also have used it to raise my rep quickly in systems I want to have quick access to high level missions in (Fehu for example), on my last trip, I use my data to get allied with the factions that were hiding engineers, and I'll also use it to rank up an engineer quickly, if need be (and it's an option).

Now, if I Palin wasn't behind the fracking Qwent/modular terminal wall...

I sell where I want to increase my rep. Most of the time I only take the three major factions into account.
When I was ranking for a Federal Corvette I always sold my data at stations with a Federal faction in charge.
But I also sold my data to some of the engineers to increase my standing with them.
