2.2 Trailer.. Drug Reference.. Wat?

Erm?

"hey man howd you get addicted to crystal meth?"

"ah dude long story, but it started with the trailer to a major update to a Space Sim game.. you may as well call Elite: Dangerous a gateway drug maaan"

That's the ESRB rating for the game in general, not the trailer. Drug Reference being different from Drug Use, which might call for a higher rating; go ahead and fill your hold up with Beer, Liquor, Narcotics and Onionhead and tell me that a parent might not be concerned about a nine year old doing so.

Having the word narcotics is enough to warrant this rating these days.

No joke.

O/T, sorry...

Frickin' Safe Spaces, trigger warnings, echo chamber "discussion" forums, mandatory PC usage, Antiseptic hand spray, Antibacterial seat covers.... urg...

"Wen I wer'a lad, I'd 'appily eat summut I'd dropped in the street with nought more than a blow to remove any dirt."

I live in Japan which is a nightmare of antibiological and antiseptic agents in household products... Everything has some label plastered on it, promising anti this and anti that.
Over half the kids at the prep school I run have asthma, eczema or allergies of some sort and everyone has had at least one day off due to some malady or other in the last six months.

My two kids wash their hands with simple soap when they come in and before eating... The table is wiped down with a clean wet sponge using a drop Fairy Liquid. They rarely get ill and have no allergies whatsoever. My eldest has not missed a day of school, ever. She did catch Flu once during the hols, but ran the school 1/4 marathon a week later and got first place... (no bull)...

I really think this world is designing people with such little tolerance for anything, social or biological. It's going to be hell for the next gen.

And don't get me started on the anti-vax lot!

Oh man! you've just reminded me of the funny looks my mum gave me when I asked her (I was about 10 or 11)what narcotics were after seeing them listed in the original Elite.
In fact thinking back i'm surprised she actually still let me play my favourite game after finding out I could buy and sell drugs.

That time your spawn's teacher calls to talk about the post-break essay.

"During the summer, I made a lot of money on a lucrative trade route running narcotics, assault weapons, and slaves."

"This is the world we live in.
And these are the hands we're given.
Throw them up in the air.
Because Those In Charge Just Do Not Care"

Sorry, Phil Collins, you tried, we tried, but no one listened.

As for the ESRB... I'm more than old enough, so their ratings mean nothing to me. I could care less about them, and if some terrible event were to happen that resulted in their mangled corpses being piled up in the streets, I wouldn't shed any tears. I make my own decisions, without regard for the opinions of others, and I stand by those decisions, even when they are "unpopular".

It's called Personal Responsibility, and if more people exercised it the world would be a million times better.

Fantasy? but they removed magic ship tranfer so its back to being science fiction :p

No , I jest.
The reason is the ESRB is claiming this is due to the drugs being in the game its self.
Fantasy violence is when violence happens but its not realistic or very detached. (such as shooting a spacehip , its not something you can just do IRL)

To that end , the day we can walk around I wonder if it will change to just ''violence''

I used to have to remind my son: "Hey man, it's the five second rule, not five minute rule!"
But hey, his immune system is better for it. :)
