Let's address the passenger problem.

No, *we* ignore the inconsistency. ;)

It is literary mutual consent, to enable story-telling. It has happened since we sat around the fire and told stories. Off the top of my head, take Mallory, by example: The audience of Morte D'Arthur were contemporary. They knew that a knight doesn't just ride up to battle and dash into it, because he would not have any armour on, and would be on the wrong horse. Yet time and time again knights go from turning up somewhere to being fully decked in the panoply of war in mid-sentence. It was accepted and people - who knew that it was nonsense - still accepted the conflicting timing and thought it a jolly good read!

Yah true. It's a mutually accepted suspension of disbelief. That's what's caused this thread, FD decided on a certain "literary convenience" and the OP found it too much to be willing to suspend their own disbelief for the sake of the game's playability.

That was the basis of the whole "instant vs delayed" argument too... most of us weren't willing to accept that great a suspension of disbelief. It all comes down to how believable you want the game to be, and how many "conveniences" you're willing to overlook.

Another point regarding even the Economy level cabins. These are not like airline seats, they are (as in their little preview pictures) a tube shaped habitat. Probably a bed, some basic storage, lighting and such.

Some passenger trips in these Economy type cabins can stretch for perhaps days or weeks. So they are more in line with mini-hotels, than airline seats.

It feels as though instead of thinking it through correctly, FD just arbitrarily make it up and let's not bother making sense of it. If they'd just put in some effort in thinking stuff through it wouldn't be so immersion breaking.....

one of the many reasons i don`t believe in the detailed 10 year plan that many people like to remind us about

I don't think a cruise ship is capable of space flight either.

You clearly haven't played KSP. Pretty much everything is capable of spaceflight and FTL velocities given the correct "assistance."

Uh, okay? A first-rate hotel can still hold far more guests than a Beluga.

737 usually don't operate in deep space.....
737 has no jump capabilities
737 burns kerosine instead of hydrogen
737 has no laser beam weapons
737 has no docking computer
737 doesnt comes with a cargo scoop
737 don't.......
737 don't.......
737 don't.......
737 don't.......
737 don't.......
and so on :D
Let me guess, wings sold separately? :D

Even though all we equip is cabins, I imagine that the modules also come with shared lounges, dining room, bar, gym, and other entertainment facilities, particularly with the higher rating of the passenger module. There is also likely to be several crew members to cater for the passengers, so they also need accomodation and other living facilities.

I also think that the time it takes for us in the game to do things has been greatly compressed for game reasons. So while it takes us an hour to travel several 100 ly, it is more like a week of real time for the CMDR, crew and passengers.

Id love ships with those kind of capacity.

They would have to be huge and wouldn't be able to enter the station.

Would really justify fighter escorts and ship launched fighters.

It would be amazing to see and be able to pilot ships that big.

Not necessarily made to be combat ships, but giant bulk haulers and passenger carriers.

Oh yes please!

They would need to be really slow and cumbersome, with missions that don't pay above that of normal ones.

When you fly economy you go for the cheap seats, so the missions shouldn't pay tens of Millions.

It could work quite well and not break the games economy.

Since the journey times in many cases are supposed to take sometime I think of the modules as living quarters and not seats.

737 also has a autopilot btw, in fact most planes since the 70s.

Yep, they work pretty good too.

Now this is immersion.

Scale of the galaxy in Elite is amazing, scale of the gameplay factors is nonsense. If you can suspend your disbelief through that you'll enjoy the game, if not then not so much.

Has anyone else experienced wanted tourist passengers?
Yup, and they wanted me to pick up some drugs that are illegal at the destination. Lovely bunch, completely trashed my luxury cabins. Never going to get that smell out now...guess that deck will be economy from now on.

Also, boosting into station to avoid scan on the Beluga is hella fun.

Are we sure the max economy size is 4? How many high tech tourist stations have you checked? Not every one will have them. They were in beta 7 up to size 6 economy holding 32 passengers each. I saw nowhere in the change log that said the economy passenger cabins had been capped at size 4.
