Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

Depends what you mean by tried, but probably yes. I've just stocked up and am heading over now if anyone has an ideas on the way.

It's clearly some kind of ancient race course, the moving symbols on the pillar are lap timers. I reckon it will probably unlock when someone manages to complete a circuit of the site in under a minute!

P.S. good to have you back!

That's far from being completely ridiculous, y'know!

did anyone bring the collectable stuff to the spots on the ground that glow when you come close in a srv? how many of them are there? maybe you have to place stuff there?!

The data packages from the active alien block things seem to go up to gamma, I've yet to find the alpha and charlie data packets but I've got the rest

- Unknown Probes are now being found in Degraded Emission [Threat 2]. No more Anomaly Sources.

Everywhere in the first bubble, also works?

Suspense factor: testing something that is "peculiar" outside ruins. Will get back ASAP.

Potential important finding notice:

Before the first ruins/system were located I was jumping around Synuefe sector looking for binary planets in search of the "potato moon" based on the video.
I managed to find some systems with those, scanned them - the surface wasn't fitting the one from the trailer though, so I moved along.
Now today, when handing in data at a station, I get the information that I am the FIRST to discover some planets in the Synuefe sector.
So I checked the system and it was thoroughly explored - by THREE explorers total - including further distance bodies than those.

So how the heck did three explorers miss two bodies that fit the description..?
*tension rising*
..because maybe they weren't there when they first explored it!

Reasoning: Barnacles liked this and that
Assumption: Alien cities liked being built on binary planets
Factor: An unexplored binary landable planet body appears in an already explored system during 2.2 patch that introduces archaeology in the same sector as the one already found (now read this sentence out loud three times FAST!)

I am however terrible at scanning ground so I'm leaving the system coordinates for people who want to comb: Synuefe UP-C B46-0
If there are more of those cities around, this might be a good bet.

:D Thanks Alec, good to be back :)

And what a surprise to hear you, of all people, suggesting a buggy race :p

I've only just returned to the game after around 9 months off. Bought an Oculus Rift and have been engrossed in Elite Dangerous for the last 4 weeks. I hadn't really paid much attention to the Alien stuff (barnacles, unknown fragments, crashed spaceship, etc) and only really started reading this thread a week ago. I actually read through pretty much all of it and by the time i got to near the end of it, Xdeath had pinpointed the system and planetary body and last night i went off in search of the ruins.

Even though i was just flying around the planet, (evidently only around 30km from the actual site when it was discovered) i was pumped. Xdeath himself discovered the ruins whilst i was sleeping, i was amazed when i woke up this morning to the news.

Would just like to thank Fdev and Canonn for providing me with yet another avenue of gameplay. archaeology, symbology, mystery, puzzles etc

Last night, i felt incredibly immersed in trying to find the site, patrolling at 500 odd metres or so for 3 hours, eyes peeled on radar and the ground for anything of interest. boring gameplay to some, but for me, a really nice change from engineering and material grinding. I'm now hooked on the lore, science and mythology of Elite Dangerous. This thread is my 'go to' now, i love reading all the theories, however 'out there' they may be. There really is so much more to this game than grinding for credits and wanting the best upgrades. The last couple of days has been one of the highlights for me.

Please let there be more of these sites to discover, i really hope that this ruin yields more clues for perhaps the next step in this evolving mystery. surely it can't just be a site for engineering materials? there has to be more.... doesn't there?

That is certainly possible, but it is probably more likely that they couldn't be bothered to explore it all. If the way the planets were aligned meant that they ended up, after scanning a few, a few kLs away and it wasn't "worth their while", they would have probably moved on.

*Edit* Oh can I also suggest (even though I don't think you'll find anything) searching the nearby canyons for Barnacles.

months ago there was a bug where you became the first explorer of any planet you scanned. please scan some random planet, sell the data and check if you are now the first discoverer. or you just scan other bodies in that system and see if the name changes.

That is also entirely possible - I remember finding systems on the way to Jaques that only had a few lazy scans. Three explorers consecutively ditching them is however much less likely so that made my eyebrow raise.

I had around a milion worth of scanning data when trading in and they were the only two to pop.

I'm wondering, the UA and UP seem to affect stations,

Do the artefacts from the planetary sites do this aswell or completely reverse it or anything to a space station??

Guys,
I was there with the Brocast crew until 4 am this morning...(UK)

I have loads of...

Data:
Pattern Alpha obelisk data
Pattern Beta obelisk data
Pattern Delta obelisk data
Pattern Gamma obelisk data

( I did not get any Epsilon if that is actually available )

and 32t of the Ancient commodities.... ( lying around and in those rocky areas )

Any ideas what to do with them?

Thanks

The commander log gives some nice information for what the patterns are called or what they mean.

Pattern Alpha Desc: Data captured from obelisks found at ancient ruins. This data pattern is distinctive and has been designated as 'Pattern Alpha'. There are many theories as to what this data might represent. Com Log: Ancient Biological Data
Pattern Beta Desc: Information recorded from obelisks found at ancient ruins. This data pattern is distinctive, and has been designated as 'Pattern Beta'. The meaning of this pattern has not yet been determined. Com Log: Ancient Cultural Data
Pattern Delta Desc: Captured from obelisks found at ancient ruins, this data pattern is distinctive, and has been designated as 'Pattern Delta'. The meaning of this data type is not yet known. Com Log: Ancient Language Data
Pattern Epsilon: Downloaded from obelisks found at ancient ruins, this data pattern is distinctive, and has been designated as 'Pattern Epsilon'. As yet, the pattern's meaning is unknown. Com Log: Ancient Technological Data
Pattern Gamma Desc: Unknown data extracted from obelisks found at ancient ruins, this data pattern is distinctive, and has been designated as 'Pattern Gamma'. The secrets of this information have yet to be unlocked. Com Log: Ancient Historical Data

Thats what the com log reads. you can find that in your user saved games folder. its also neat to use so you can see where you have been!
