Special Treatment & Favouritism?

Why attack OP? His post is polite and he specifically states that he is not envious. If you don't agree either say so or just don't comment.
I think we know why they are attacking the OP. These are most likely the same players that got FD to change their minds about the huge weapon availability to only those that participated in the CG to it being available to everyone, by whining on the forums in mass.

One decal was for Distant Worlds, at the time the largest group of players to gather and they went across the entire galaxy. Another was for Dangerous Games, a community-wide competition to elevate a player group to major faction level.

These are major contributions to the game world, not just playing the BGS a bit. These things deserve a decal. Simply being a member of a in-game club doesn't.

I am all for recognition and reward in-game, but for meaningful emergent gameplay.

Given the sheer number of player groups currently registered, it would be prohibitive for FD to include a decal for them all.
Hence why the ones that were added were based on those actively taking part in events as a reward for doing so.

As you stated in the OP, I see this as enthusiasm by FDev to highlight the people that put the most into the game.
On the flip side I would ask, who do you think is losing out or are being under represented? And what would you like to see FDev do about it?

Exactly, Distant Worlds was a major PR boon for FD, and the DGs were FD's very own PR offensive. Follow the money.

So FD try to reward parts of the community for engaging with the game by giving away little decals when they take part in tasks or come up with emergent content and it's favouritism?

If they gave away decals to anyone that asks for one then they'd be spending their time doing that instead of fixing bugs and developing new content.

FD can't win.

(Can I have a decal now please FD?)

Counter here is that there might be 1000 playes in a large group, but 100x10 or even 100x 50 smaller groups all playing with the background sim, now 1000 versus 5000 players , and giving special attention one could argue to the smaller number in one group could be counter productive, as all those smaller groups would all have players that would keep playing if they could achieve smaller things leading to a greater number of sales, and if all those groups had a quick tool which required less developer time and could lead to sales. It would be a net benefit ( but im only playing devils advocate here) the large groups who create content do get coverage, and do continue to sell the game to a small niche.

FD needs to give ALL players participating in POWER PLAY their respective decal. Simple. Let the player group factions earn them, through various methods AND also let players know exactly what is happening, no read the fine print or guessing what the CG reward might be.

I believe the decals are not issued out of favouritism, but out of the actions related to the game. When certain actions catch the attention of the development team they might warrant that with a decal.

Barring any evidence of favouritism, I'll put it down to a bit of harmless enthusiasm from Frontier.

I see an Alliance decal. IF I join the Alliance, it would not be available to me when it is to others.

I'm going to be honest, I don't really care about sales or about how big a player club we're talking about. Creating stories, creating in-game history and lore, that's what should be rewarded. Not just "I belong to X player group, I want a bumper sticker".

Have been thinking about this (so rep to OP because that doesn't happen very often!) but I almost think the minute you can predict what you might be given a decal for, they're dead.

In other words, you know if you grind missions you'll rank up and earn a bigger ship.
You also know, if you buy a paintjob, you can paint your ship.

But a decal is more like a medal? Give for 'some' contribution, above and beyond? The people going Distant Worlds didn't know there would be a decal in it. Dangerous Games didn't know either, both were playing for other things and other reasons. So (I think) do something awesome in the game, something dedicated/unexpected/creative and show you value ED .. and you might get a medal too?

I am quite surprised about the level of nastiness, vitriol and personal thrashing I'm recieving. Its rather revealing.

You're thread stinks of envey, as for the negative responces you opened this can of worms so suffer the consequences.

Special rewards in the form of decals for groups and players that go above and beyond to participate and engage the developers and the community are awesome.

The best games are bigger than "Me".

I do think there is room for more personal achievement badges for sure outside of the PF Ranks.

Then the NPCs should not have PP decals.

Precisely!

The people going Distant Worlds didn't know there would be a decal in it.
They revealed that at Beagle Point :)

I also didn't do it to buddy up to the developers. And the decal sits on my ship, reminding me about DWE. It's not as if anyone else ever sees it.
Do they have power play decals too? I know players have been asking for them for awhile now.
Wouldn't you be able to pokemon them all by switching powers? Like collecting stamps :)
